Does this forum need more moderators?

Featured Replies

Does anyone else think this forum needs more moderation? There are trolls posting about weather radars. Demands for a release date. Questions posed that have been answered dozens of times already. Double and triple posts. Some ad hominem attacks. It's typical that forum quality degrades closer to release, but I feel like we would all benefit if PMDG appointed a volunteer moderator, maybe a beta tester, to clean this place up.

it's not as bad as it could be, so it's all good for now, we just have to live with it

Does this forum need more moderators? Nope.

Does this forum need less trolls? Definitely!

The PMDG forums in general need more moderation.  The amount of off-topic, general aviation topics, and computer hardware posts in the PMDG General Forum is ridiculous.

To be honest, it's not a matter of needing more moderators.

Maybe the Forum needs more civility, common courtesy and less drama.

PMDG will release the product when they see fit; no amount of complaining, whining, name calling or ill tempered behavior will change that.

From an outside perspective, it looks exactly like that, and it doesn't paint a pretty portrait.

Don't have something good to say? Then it's better left unsaid.

Argument for the sake of argument doesn't go anywhere; neither does disguising it in 'P.C.' terms and phrases, either.

Or, you can just not reply. Does not take that long at all, to click the back button, and it is even faster to not read the topic at all.

I don't see how it really matters one way or the other, as I don't get upset when I see the same question, and it doesn't bother me when I see someone request a feature that they are too new to know is already dead. But hey, thats just me.

Nope, I think Avsim forums are all fine like they are, things shouldn't get too restrictive.

None of the things you mention are in need of extra moderation. Posting about weather radar is not tolling. Double posts are a technical problem. I haven't seen any posts since 777 "wide beta" demanding release dates. The search function isn't very user friendly or helpful so it isn't surprising people can't or don't use.

What forum users need to apply is patience and above all tolerance. If someone posts about something asked many times either ignore it or answer it again. The least helpful and most annoying response is "use the search function".

Example of someone demanding a release date today: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/416232-final-release-date-please/

I understand that the double and triple posts are technical issues, but that doesn't mean a moderator can't come and delete those.

I agree that patience and tolerance among forum users is paramount. But sometimes the only solution is moderation.

Speaking for the AVSIM Forums in general, if I'm honest I think there have been times in the past when there has definitely been too much intervention and moderation but I have noticed a much more hands off strategy lately and I think it's made things more relaxed and people seem to feel they can be more open and honest ............ of course where people are being more open and honest, sometimes more conflict can occur, and perhaps there are more irrelevent or pointless threads in some cases.   But still, as others have said, we all have the choice to ignore 'crap' threads, or to hit the back button if we find ourselves on such a thread.

In general I think the current level of moderation is a very good balance.

All things considered - even with some of the crazy-loco FTX Global and other tangential discussion recently, I personally feel AVSIM is the best it's been in years, as a buzzing environment and focus for our hobby.

I spent almost 10 years mainly based on another FS site, but I couldn't return there now because AVSIM is a better reflection of where our hobby is at, right now.

I guess I just don't see the dilemma in someone having to what, see this posts? I just can't imagine it puts anyone out.

Surely, if a post that is based off such a well documented or detailed discussion is somewhere else posted, and nobody replies, the OP will then have to back up and search some more.

Maybe I just overlook a lot, because I just skim over them without a thought and continue on. Nobody can be that pressed for time, while reading on a flight sim forum that a few redundant posts are bogging them down. Plus, I am absolutely sure AvSim can handle the 1% if that of posts that are doubles or repeat questions.
