August 20, 201312 yr Good Day All, I have searched the forum but cannot find anything on the topic "top menu bar" in fs9 In fsx all I have to do to get the top menu bar is to press "alt" and then I can use the menu bar and also continue to fly whilst it is there. In fs9 as soon as I press "alt" the menu bar appears and I can use it, but fs9 freezes and will not fly again until I press "alt" again and the menu bar disappears and then I can fly again(sometimes when I press "alt" to fly again the curser has gone from being white to being black). Can someone tell me if this is an fs9 thing or am I missing something!!! I use a small additional screen for dragging the popups onto whilst flying. I am able to do this in fsx but not in fs9. Is this also an fs9 thing or again am I missing something? In the settings/assignments for the view "snap to panel view" I can assign a key but the panel view is only there if I hold the key down whereas in fsx it truly is a "snap to view" and stays there when I let go of the key. Any help on the above would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks ou toppie

August 20, 201312 yr I am pretty sure that if you uncheck "pause on task" then you will be able to continue flying while looking through the menu??........as for undocking views and moving them around to another monitor you must be in windowed mode in order to do this......which is a drag because I don't like windowed mode but it is the only way that I know of to export gauges to another monitor. Hope that helps
August 20, 201312 yr Pressing the "Alt" pauses FS9 - Normal.Cursor changing from white to black is a Windows7/FS2004 issue. Disable Desktop Composition in Windows7.Not sure why a second screen is not working for you? It should work in FS9. Edit: Drag your windows while in window mode, then switch to full screen. "Snap to panel view" works fine for me in FS2004. I actually have it assigned to a controller button.RJ
August 20, 201312 yr I only use Windowed mode due to FPS being superior and access to the menus easily.. To minimise the impact you can make the window bars smaller in the Personalisation area in Control Panel. I also colour them Black or Blue to match the sky as close as possible.. Using a menu in FS will always pause the sim I believe. doing other tasks outside of FS will not stop the sim but will kill the sound.. Rgds, John FS9 Driver
August 20, 201312 yr I only use Windowed mode due to FPS being superior and access to the menus easily.. I've always had lower FPS and higher temperatures in Windowed mode, no matter the OS (XP, Vista or 7), GPU (Intel, ATI or Nvidia) or CPU (Intel or AMD). I'm curious why I'm getting less instead of more. August 23, 201312 yr Author Good Day All, Many thanks for all the suggestions although non of them seem to help. Windowed mode or not I still cannot drag popups. Uncheck 'pause on task" doesn't work for me. I cant seem to find Desktop Composition in order to disable it. The "snap to panel" view works in as much that when I press the key it snaps to the panel view but when I release the key it goes back to the previous screen, whereas in fsx when I press and release the key the screen stays on the panel view. So I guess I have to live with what Ive got Thanks ou toppie
August 23, 201312 yr Windowed mode or not I still cannot drag popups. Not sure exactly which way you are pulling up the pop-up windows......I think you are right clicking on the screen and selecting "new view" or whatever it's called (forgive me I'm not at my gaming computer and don't have access to the game).....go through views in the menu bar and there will be another drop-down menu I think it's either under panels, or instruments.....when you select one of the options a new window will pop up and it will be re-sizeable and it will be dragable to another screen Drag your windows while in window mode, then switch to full screen. When ever I try to return to full screen mode after un-docking and moving a view my sim turns into a slideshow....literally 1 FPS
August 24, 201312 yr I cant seem to find Desktop Composition in order to disable it. With FS9 closed, find your FS9.exe icon, right click and under properties tick "disable desktop composition" and "disable visual themes" Peter Peter Schluter
August 24, 201312 yr I have the menu bar up there all the time and if I turn it off all I have to do is press control alt enter to get it back. I fly FS9 and I can assure you that it is not an FS9 thing. Boy those FSX trols never give up do they lol....John
August 26, 201312 yr Author Hi All, Many thanks with the info for desktop composition etc. Done the run as administrator/XP service pack 2 etc and no different. Romflyer--- have had a look at your views suggestions and run into a couple of problems. When I put up a new small view in the main window the drop down menu quite clearly shows an option for undocking it but the option is greyed out so I cant use it. I have gone into the learning centre and read the Views information and it talks about the undocking and dragging/resizing of the new view but I still cannot undock as the option is greyed out and nothing happens when I click on it. Also,at the beginning of the paragraph on Views in the learning centre there is a video available for more info from the King School. When I click the go icon on the video to be able to watch it I get the screen telling me that MFS has stopped working and that a problem has caused the program to stop working. It does this every time I try to watch the video. I have had a look on the fs forums but can find no references for this. So I guess I just have to live with it, although why MS would put an option in a drop down box and then not let you use it beats me Regards ou toppie
August 27, 201312 yr well I finally got a chance to sit down at my gaming rig and see if I could figure out how to help you with re-sizing and moving undocked windows......I took some screenshots but I'll be buggered if I can figure out where to upload them...???.....anyways hit Alt/views/instrument panel/GPS(or whatever option is available).......Once you open a new window from there it will be undocked, re-sizable, and ready to be moved to where ever you want. Hope that helps Cheers Romflyer P.S. and if someone tells me where the damn upload 'images button' is then I can add a screenshot or two. EDIT: I went back and messed around with things a bit more, you cant be in full screen mode to make this work.....if you are the new window will not be resizable or moveable........which is totally stupid  but it could very well explain why it's not working for you.
August 27, 201312 yr Are you running FS9 in window mode? If not that maybe your problem, I do and do not have the problem you are having at all. You should not be having this problem at all mate.
September 8, 201312 yr My guess is it's your AA settings. Using an Nvidia card with Nvidia Inspector? 4xS and the other higher settings will do that to you in full screen fs9. Best way to test it is set your AA to 4x or 8x and then try full screen again. Menus should work fine then. Downside is the loss in quality of the AA along with more noticeable shimmering, but that's really the only workaround. Newer drivers won't help either, so save yourself the headache. Don't ask me how I know. :He He:Good Luck!!
