INOP? Why?

Recommended Posts

Because its switched to off possibly?

I doubt it. When it's switched off, it's just off. There's not normally an INOP sticker there.

Because the aircraft isn't fitted with ADF's.

It obviously is a customer option, as in other shots you can see ADL L & R respectively.

There is no point wasting extra cash on installing ADF's when they are being decommisioned all over the globe. NDB's are not the future of air navigation.

That makes sense.

Why is there INOP stickers under the VOR L & VOR R switches?

I'm guessing so people don't try clicking on it, wonder why it doesn't work, and then post a support inquiry asking why it doesn't work.

Why is there INOP stickers under the VOR L & VOR R switches?

They're covering the ADF side.  VORs are fine.  Receivers for NDBs are not installed, thus the stickers.

Is that an option in the FMC?

NDB installed or not installed?

It's an option selectable through the CDU (not the FMC. The FMC is the avionic sitting down in the avionics bay. The CDU is the thing you access the FMC, PMDG OPTIONS, FS ACTIONS through).

How I know? Because other peoples screenshots have shown ADF L & R respectively instead of INOP.

Exactly, unless you're planning to deliver 100 tons of "Pop and Potato Chips" to remote native communities in Northern Canada in your 777, you probably won't have much need for an ADF.

The NDB gets a bad rep, but it works. Why do you think remote communities rely on them and not VOR? SIMPLICITY.

Best regards,

Robin.
