Had enough of complex payware it's Back 2 Basics!

Ricardo, just jump into one of the FS9 default heavies and go fly. No setup is necessary. It would seem to me you have been provided with just exactly the experience you say you want for your limited time by choosing a default aircraft as supplied in FS9.

Well exactly. I can get the PMDG off the ground in less than 15 minutes if not sooner in most cases. Not to mention, you can skip the start-up procedure and load the planes already running, so why not do that? Then a saved flight plan in the FMC, and you should be able to set up the flight in the same amount of time as a freeware plane. What bothers me is all these unsolicited complaints about what some people don't want. If you aren't interested then move along. Why create a stir?

I can crank up FS, load the PMDG 737NG, spread the panels out across three monitors, load AS2004.5 with online weather (dial-up access too!), load my VA ACARS application and load the flight details, load up FSBuild, build a flight plan, garnish with SIDS and STARS and likely runway selections, load fuel per the flight plan, start the APU, load the FMC with ALL details (enroute winds from AS2004.5 too if the flight is long enough), obtain ATC clearances, configure the MCP, get TCAS running, start engines, configure for takeoff, and start taxiing in LESS THAN 15 mins (5 - 10 mins for a turnaround flight). You need to click faster ;)Gary

It surely would ease one's sim life if it were possible to save a situation correctly and complete. My understanding is that because of the limitations of FS, more complex aircraft would need to implement their own 'save as' routines to store each and every switch and setting to disk.Seems that no one has that available, so interrupting a flight in e.g the RFP 747 or the PMDG 737NG would be not a good idea...Andreas

From the feature list of the PSS Concorde, I understand that you can save the panel situation at any time in flight. Maybe somebody that owns it could confirm this.J.J.JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

Well, PMDG is going to have this feature in their 747-400 that they're working on, so at least those long flights can be broken up and what not. However, the thread starter still complained about the upcoming 747, so go figure.

>>>and after I had finished programming the FMC, trying to find the correct SID/STARS,<<

Well SQUAWKIDENTI think you are making one big mistake in your whine. Your post is stating that payware is too complicated and by that not worth buying, and on the other hand freeware is much better because they are so much more simple than the above. Would you care to elaborate? As I see it you put both camps down with your statement.I can understand your concern but to translate that to a payware contra freeware issue is not accurate. I would suggest you go with a simple GA a/c when you only have a thirthy minute gap in your schedule and go for any more complex aircraft when you feel you have the time. And let the people who want's to spend a full thirty minutes before pushback to do so. As many posters already have pointed out. There's and abundance of choice for you and no real ground for complaint. Cheers,

I think maybe the flamers are taking the original post too seriously - the guy was only making conversation!I sometimes feel the same way myself - so many things seem to get in the way of enjoying simple flight, and the tweaking & downloading seem to take a disproportionate slice of the total time we have for it.But we wouldn't have it any other way! While publicly moaning & groaning, secretly we love every minute of it. If someone threatened to take away our beloved FS9, we'd be like Homer Simpson faced with the removal of his doughnut, or the accountant in "The Producers" when Bialystock takes away his Blue Blankie. Please - lighten up guys!Schofi

Would it be possible for payware developers to include the option to fly automatically with FSNav or GPS, it would certainly open up the market, as I love the Dreamfleet panels and aircraft but don't always have the time to programme the FMC.CheersMichael

Well the operative word here "Flight SIMULATOR", we are striving to simulate real life aviation. But you have the choice, full on procedure or kick the tyres and go!. But yes I do understand the time constraints issue, there never seems to be enough time in this giant beehive of a world we live in.CheersPete :)

Have you tried GA aircraft you can just jump into them and go no programing anything... just pick a direction :)

I don't think his post is directled at PMDG per se since other aircraft offer similar complexity and time to get going. That's what I believe GA aircraft like flight 1's 172 are for, just load it up and enjoy. I do think this statement is somewhat missplaced [/b]"Developers please note. Not everyone in the FS community has the time to spend weeks reading manuals and programming FMC's"[/b] since you have a choice to buy or not to buy, one could simply stay with the default aircraft without complexities to worry about. PMDG have made other *simple* aircrarft for this very reason as have others but we must remember those who do desire to spend realistic time setting up FMCs and reading AOMS to fly airliners as realistic as possible, don't knock other's choices and we will respect yours.Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Hey Guys please dont take my original post negatively - I can see both sides:)I DO like complex good-looking complicated aircraft (like the PMDG 737)as well! I have just realised that too much of my personal "recreation" time has been taken up setting them up and not enough time is being spent actually FLYING and ENJOYING the rest of the FS world ie Photographic Scenery, REAL weather, fantastic clouds etc.As I said in my second post. EACH TO THEIR OWN!With regards to "Developers take note.." I was simply making the point that I DO want to see complex airliners in FS but was reminding "them" that FS is a SIMULATOR and such simple things as SAVE SITUATION, SAVE FMC etc would be most welcome additions so that we can actually enjoy the whole experience without having to stop midway through a flight to go to work/bed/holiday etc and therefore lose whatever flight situation we had spent hours programming beforehand!I posted something about this on the PMDG forum last year and was told (not by PMDG but a fellow user) that I couldnt have functions like "SAVE FLIGHT" or "SAVE SNAPSHOT" because it wouldnt be realistic!RegardsAdam

Agree with Randy, WE have the choice to buy or not, I, for one, enjoy both worlds, the fire up and go flying, and the FMC setting and clicking every knob and switch to start an engine.
