Bombardier CSeries-First Flight Nearing

Featured Replies

Bombardier announced yesterday the first flight for their new CSeries Aircraft is scheduled for this Monday, September the 16th. The days events will be viewable through the live web stream and include a press conference after the first flight.

A live video stream will be available from http://www.cseriesfirstflight.bombardier.com/

I am excited to see this aircraft finally move to the testing phase, but slightly disappointed as it means an end to Swiss operating the RJ100.

Very interesting aircraft receiving too little attention in my eyes. I saw they even promote the use of it at special 'prop only' airports like Toronto City.

"We have determined that the CS100 airliner with a 107 seat configuration is the ideal aircraft to operate from our home base at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and will make it possible for Porter to open up new destinations, such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Florida and the Caribbean,"

Shows the potential it might have to offer, eh? Good luck on the first flight.

That airport is the airport I went to school (CYTZ) This is why I am ytzpilot.....

Anyhow, they have been trying for decades to expand operations at that airport and build tunnels or bridges only to be stonewalled by political debate. Greenies don't like airplanes.

This new approach is Porter Airline with Bombardier sticking all their eggs in one basket with Lobbyists trying and win politicians over to allow that airport to land these new jets there. Still a very good chance it will never happen.

There are a significant amount of people living in Condos along the waterfront near that airport as well as an island community living at the other side of the island near the approach for runway 26 that will fight to prevent these jets from landing there. They already don't like the Q400's and would like to see them gone as well.

I for one support the jets but no longer live in Toronto so have no say really. Based on my experiences at that airport, the lobbyists have a tough fight ahead of them, but could sway a win for the jets if Industry Canada backs them with the argument that  this would create Canadian jobs and a significant order for Bombardier.

I will watch this battle with much interest.

If I get the time on Monday, I'm going to try to be at mirabel and take a video of my own.

Perks of living in Montreal, I get to see Bombardier's new toys first!

Ha, good points on the lobbyists vs. residents fights, Matthew. Well, the information on the C series being a quiet jet plane and even comparable to the normal props comes from Bombardier themselves. One part of their campaign, besides the fuel savings, is the one of the fully new design allowing for 'environmental friendly' noise levels. Bit of an oxymoron when it comes to jet engines. Relative values.

Still, looking forward to see the C Series flying and being a winner on the market. Embraer did update their Ejets with new engines but this E2 concept still seems to be in the works with the EIS planned in 2018. Not a fully new plane, just 'NEO'. Must not mean that it's bad of course.

Would be nice if AJ gets a video of the first C Series flight.

I like how everyone is kind of creating a new and newer version of a 737...

Don't they aim for just below the 737 by design? The sales for e.g. a 736 never were that good, so perhaps this shows why the small jets can compete with the big names. Means, if they stay small.

The double-shrinked variants of the larger single isles don't seem to be able to offer any gains other than commonality for certain carriers.

Well, if the fuel prices keep on rising, the larger props also play a role sooner or later of course. Interesting times.

I certainly hope its more comfortable to ride in than the ERJs and other CRJs. The little ones have really been pushed past their intended purposes.

My thoughts exactly... Not recieving the same amount of "AVSIM hype" as the A350 was just prior to its first flight..

Boy am I envious of you!! If you end up getting a video, could upload it please? I am 13hrs ahead of Montreal, so I'll probably miss it.

The S100, E-170/190 and CSeries are all significantly smaller (in terms of pax payload) than the 737. The 737 (and A320) are in the 150-200 pax size range, whereas the S100, E170/190 and CSeries are in the 70-130 pax range.

No, the 737 ranges from around 100 on the -500 to around 190 on the -900.

I set the alarm to watch it live this morning and I keep getting error messages or the page doesn't even load.  What a joke Bombardier, not really a proud Canadian at the moment.

I can watch the raising of the Costa Concordia which is 3 times farther away from me just fine.

Missed it completely, link was dead, what a joke.
