EZDOK settings - Nick from Angle of Attack

Featured Replies

I maybe presumptive here, but on an educated guess it would appear that in Nick's Angle of Attack video's he is using ezdok.

Anyone have any idea on what he's settings are?

I've tinkered with my ezdok for hours, and still can't get it to roll ever so smoothly like he's does particularly in & around the flight deck.

Appreciate any solid input here.

Rgds,

The trick is to have the same zoom setting for all your camera views, then your transition from one to the other is smooth.

Note just the zoom value must be the same, you can adjust the view with arrow keys and page up/page down

The float camera is what he is using to get the smooth movements. For the view that you are in make sure the pov button is selected, then you can use the arrow keys, pg up/pg dwn buttons and hat switch to move around. Thats the trick they use but refuse to share

The float camera is good for making videos but since its so floaty its not too useful when clicking around the VC

Thanks to all.

I've got all my ezdok setups within the 777 VC as I need. (NGX also)

It's just the "smooth float" that I'm after - just to move around the VC seamlessly like in their video presentations.

According to Luis Linares (post above), AoA are going to release their camera set soon for download.....I'm looking forward to that.

I'll use it in the NGX too.

Rgds,

Their NGX camera settings have been out for a few years now, find them in their website.

I also use their MD11 setup which I migrated to the 777. Works well

I've tried to d/l both the NGX & 777 with no success.

I think it is inside the paid training, and I wouldn't be comfortable sharing the file. For the 737 I think they made it public.

Just make sure that the RND, DHM and CA settings are off for the float camera you want to use - it'll be silky smooth that way.

Thx Greg,

I'll definitely give that a whirl.

. . . I've tinkered with my ezdok for hours, and still can't get it to roll ever so smoothly like he's does particularly in & around the flight deck . . .”

Hi Steve,

I hope I'm not covering anything you've already tried in your attempt to achieve smoothness when using Ezdok cameras. There are, or I should say, I know of several ways to improve smoothness inside the camera utility in addition to tips already offered.

The Mouse Look (ML) function

For every VC and Aircraft camera, the ML (Mouse Look) button can be activated which will allow moving the view using the mouse. The speed of the movement will be governed by both the actual speed of the mouse movement and the mouse's 'speed and smoothness' settings found under the Studio's General Settings menu which allows separate settings for both VC and Aircraft mouse movements. Although adequate for certain cameras, enabling the ML button for a given camera causes the function to be ON on a full-time basis which can only be turned OFF by accessing the Studio while FSX is in windowed mode. My preference is to activate the ML function using the middle-mouse button (Emulate MM button) which allows to turn it ON and OFF at will even when FSX is in full-screen mode. To do so, Ezdok's default key combination to activate the function (Shift+K – or other key combination of your choice) must be assigned to a programmable middle-mouse button. I use a wireless programmable five-button mouse to which I've assigned three Ezdok functions to three of the buttons. The Emulate MM button function also has two modes: T for toggle and H for hold. I find the toggle mode to work best because it doesn't necessitate holding the middle-mouse button to pan, for example, around the cockpit.

Ezdok's default key combination assignment to activate/deactivate the function can also be used. However, I find using the keyboard reduces the immersion factor and over time managed to assign frequently used Ezdok functions to joystick buttons allowing the use of both hands which enables, for example, moving around the cockpit in a manner similar or depending on your settings, identical to Nick's Angle of Attack videos. I use two joysticks, in fact three if you include the mouse: CH Throttle and CH Yoke to which I've assigned 17 separate functions and cameras. If you add the 3 functions assigned to the mouse, two of which duplicate functions assigned to one of the joystick, I have a total of 18 Ezdok functions and cameras accessible without touching the keyboard. Great for movie-making!

Point-to-Point (PTP) button

For every VC and Aircraft camera, right-clicking the PTP button will allow to set the Transition Time (one of the spelling mistakes in Ezdok's user interface) from one camera to another. Adjust the dial's value (expressed in seconds) using the mouse wheel or holding the left mouse button while moving the mouse. When finished, clicking the top right-hand X will save the setting.

Adjusting the speed and smoothness of other functions

Functions such as Forward, Backward, Left, Right, Up and Down are very much used in combination with the ML function to 'move around' and achieve the smoothness demonstrated in Nick's videos. The speed and smoothness of those functions are governed by the speed and smoothness of the keyboard keys which can be adjusted for the three categories of cameras under the General Settings menu. Under this same menu, the speed of the Hat switch can also be adjusted.

Should you be interested in the configuration of my joysticks, my latest video offers a visual representation of how I've configured my joysticks to enable me to access Ezdok functions in a manner which least intrudes on the immersion factor. The video is a bit long (47 min) but I had fun making it which is also part of my hobby.

I might have forgotten a few things but I think I've covered the basics. Hope this helps.

Thank You Jean-Jacques for that insightful information.

I'll be sure to try these out for myself and also check out your video.

Much appreciated!
