SAAB Released!

Featured Replies

from the screenshots posted the cockpit looks somewhat sterile and artificial to me. somehow it lacks that Carenado-beautiful and pretty artist style. everything seems to be that same plastic grey tone. otherwise I would have purchased it.

Everything in the Saab does have a "quite dirty" plastic grey tone.

I thought so to from the screenshots, however, in game, the vc textures seem quite a bit better.

How is the turbo prop behavior simulated?  I skipped the FS Flight 1 Super KingAir 200 and will be getting this one instead.

I also did not see a single night light cockpit screenshot in that Saab gallery. night lighting or twilight flying is where xplane outshines fsx.

"enjoy your Carenado fleet of aircraft."

especially their cockpit illumination at night is fantastic.

I haven't seen a single one for the Saab yet.

The entire engine system is plug in driven and replicates the real CT7-5A engines, including Power Lever angles verified by a 2D pop up.

I'll take your word for it.

They've actually been posted in the X-Pilot forums several months ago. They were incomplete, though. Back then, it had about 18 custom lights. Now it has over 215. I would have thought if you had a possible interest in purchasing the Saab, you would have been following its progress.

Well, the lighting is at least that good that even the CRT monitors are doing their small part in illuminating the cockpit (see last picture here: http://forums.x-pilot.com/topic/5643-saab-340a-preview-new-cockpit-and-cabin-previews/)

And given that the shop page says "215 custom lights throughout the aircraft", I'd guess it might look quite nice at night. But maybe someone who already owns the Saab could post some night pictures. I'd be interested, too.

This said: Instead of nitpicking the panel textures, personally I would focus on the second to none systems depth of the Saab. The Carenado's systems depth is nearly non-existant, unfortunately. This spoils their nice graphics very much.

Ahh, the CRT lighting.  Yes, we made that EADI light follow the pitch and roll axis of the EADI.  Just for a bit of a challenge.

I was referring to the sales site at

http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/take-command-saab-340a-p-100.html

not a single night cockpit illumination screenshot there.

I don't see what EADI, systems depth etc. have to do with cockpit graphics.

I was looking for a turboprop that has it all. or is it necessarily XOR?

If the developer or xaviation would show some of their cockpit night illumination it would help more than arguing.

EADI is related to cockpit graphics, because:

1. It is not like most other planes bitmap based, but drawn in OpenGL, which makes it very very clear to read.

2. It is casting light upon the cockpit.

You're right. We'll consider adding these pictures up soon. Sorry for the lack of that. The night lighting in this aircraft is truly beautiful, and if you're a guy who likes turboprops, not only is the systems programming amazing on this product, but the texturing and sounds are phenomenal.

Thanks for sharing your concerns!

As for a clean cockpit...couldn't be farther from the truth. These things have grime in real life (overall panel color somehow maintains), but it's been translated quite well from real life to X-Plane.

thanks, it would probably turn me into a customer

It must just be us "experimental" homebuilders..........that tend to keep our wings free of bugs, and cockpits spotless... :)

I'd find myself at the airport several times a week, polishing things up. Much different than the rentals.

This is a truly awesome aircraft to fly, still learning but so far: GREAT! Textures and handling top notch. Great job Goran M!

"and cockpits spotless"

spot on

I would also prefer at least one repaint variety with a like-new cockpit. I have never allowed any passenger in my plane to bring food and would polish and enjoy cleaning and wax her nearly as much as flying.
