DX10 fixer does create issues I never had before

Seen the post.
That makes me wonder, about going on with 2 monitors. As the fps in windowed mode is not the best.
I wonder if FTX England has something todo with it. Read something about that item today,

Thanks anyway.

I run a 3 screen surround + 1 auxiliary monitor  for GPS teamspeak etc. First off: The spinning "wheel of death" as it's known is caused by you opening a panel that is not able to stretch to your widescreen resolution. The biggest culprit of these is trying to open a 2d main panel or a GPS or anything that it cannot stretch. I've often accidentally opened the main panel and then it will eventually grind your sim to a halt and crash. There's lots of topics on that here in AVSIM if you search. It can often be fixed by editing the panel.cfg for the aircraft in question.

I also wonder what settings you are using in  REX? Have you toggled your REX settings to use the DX10 optimized textures for water animation and sun flare?? may help a little but

Does any one get black spots now and again in FSX ever since installing Steve's DX10 Fixer? how do you fix them?

In a year of testing the patches and the fixer for Steve - I have never seen black spots in any part of fsx. Sorry, Craig!   :(

Think a lot of people think DX10 Fixer is suppose to make their FSX experience better (and for many it does!).  It's a fixer for major issues found in DX10 Preview released by Microsoft in SP2/Acceleration.  For instance, you can now see the arrows on the taxiways when you enable progressive taxi because of Steve's DX10 Fixer.  You couldn't see that in DX10 Preview without any of Steve's fixes.  DX10 will work exactly as it does in DX9 except that it has a couple of enhancements (not because of Steve's DX10 Fixer).  You can see shadows in the VC for one.  There are several guides on how to properly set up DX10 Preview and Steve has guidance in his Manual.  If anyone cannot set up DX10 Preview properly using these guides, then I think it's about time you hired a computer expert.  If you have tweaks in your fsx.cfg, suspect them as the cause of your problems.  If you are overclocked, expect this to be the cause of your problems.  If you have your settings set to max, suspect this as the cause.

Just making a statement like this without pictures will not help anyone.  It's easy to make pictures in FSX and then post them here in forums.  Just make sure you follow the Image Posting rules (a link is in my signature).

@Firehawk.
To prevent stupid settings in the config, I even deleted the original one. So FSX had to build a new one.

I see the fixer as to fix something, that is not right in DX10. Not to make it nicer/better.
Well and that is what I have got.

Stupidity is, that the speed seems the oposite of DX9.
DX9, speed was ok in windowed mode, and much badder in full screen.
DX10, speed is ok in full screen, but not in windowed mode.

Downfall of DX10, that you cannot open an item and put it on the second monitor. Neither can I use a moving map there. Now I need an extra pc/laptop to do that. It works.
Looking at the GPS on a 24" monitor is hard to do. I do not believe it is the error of the fixer, but it is the downfall of using DX10.

Considering the blackspots. I have seen them too.
But that was, way back in Ireland. It was a warning for a difficult crossing. ^_^

@emisary

do you by any chance have two monitors and you are flying the NGX and Pressing SHIFT+3 to open the CDU in 2D, then trying to close the 2D CDU window or move it from one screen to another then you start seeing the Drastic drop in frame??

@ Paul I am guessing that Craig may be  referring to the missing textures (squares) that you can sometimes see over water sometimes - I think Fibre time Fraction helps there?

Darn - No - not FTFF, Steve, but I think I moved MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS= to 3, but it could have been SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT= to 3 ..... one of them fixed it......

DX10, speed is ok in full screen, but not in windowed mode.

Hi Rob,

I was just getting ready to say that!  FSX in DX9 runs faster in Full Screen Mode too.  Occasionally, you'll find a scenery or aircraft that will make this statement untrue though.  FSX does best in Full Screen Mode and, if my memory serves me right, it was the opposite with FS9 (FS2004) as fs9 was more dependent on the GPU.  For FSX it's the CPU.  For me, Full Screen Mode in DX10 is at least 50% better than in Windowed mode (perhaps it's my GTX780).

DX10 Preview is just that, a preview.  It was going to be made better by the Microsoft development team but the team was released by Microsoft before they could improve it and fix some of the many bugs.  SteveP has done an excellent job in fixing many of the problems found in DX10 but they all cannot be fixed (wait a minute, I'm trying to think of what else needs to be fixed.... :P ).  It works great for me and many others and I'm sorry some cannot get it to work properly.  It's just like FSX and previous editions of flight simulator, many had no problems with the sims, others had major problems and could never get the simulator to work as well.  That's the nature of the various types of computer systems.  It would be boring though to have permanent config settings, graphics, and computer systems that ran FSX and DX10 exactly the same as everyone else in the world.  We still would have those who are not satisfied with the results.

Best regards,

Jim
