Is it worth waiting for a patch/update?

Featured Replies

This is used manly for the alt tab and excess use of the menu use, don't think its got nothing to do with the cure of freezes of the t7 I could be wrong though

Who knows? It's not something that works for me even for that, but another user said it stopped their freezes.

Trust me, it's very very flyable, the things that need tweaking are detail and will not spoil your fun!

Hi,

I set up and saved a short flight from Vancouver to Portland using the settings recommended by PMDG. I've flown this flight quite a few times using as many different settings as I can think of.

Trackir and Active Sky were also loaded.

The flight plan uses SEA as one of the way-points so I expected low frame rates in that area.

Sure enough, FSX would have a problem and stop working most of the time approaching Seattle. If it didn't it failed approaching Portland.

I tried disabling all Orbx scenery but North America - didn't make any difference.

To cut a long story short, I finally left all the settings on high and turned "auto-gen" to zero.

After that every flight has been perfect. Of course you don't miss "auto-gen" at 30000ft - the only downside is that you don't see so many houses in the last few minutes of the flight.

Not an expert, so my question is: Why do you show a pool size when your BP=0?

To summarise my experience I'd say this is an outstanding simulation provided you are willing to accept that it is a "fair sky plane", should you happen to fly - like I do - in Asia in regions with heavy overcast, you are in for a single digit slideshow, whereas the NGX behaves quite well with very little impact in the same conditions. VAS is obviously a concern with or without limiting the number of active sceneries and depends again on the weather.

Having said all this - and if you don't care so much about those limitations -, the still existing bugs are not necessarily spoiling your pleasure once you know and avoid them.

totally untrue and false info suggesting someone needs to accept it as a fair sky plane. If your getting single digit slide shows I suggest you head over to Kostas website

Even more important, bufferpools settings can help or hinder performance depending on your system. They shouldn't be taken as general advice.

What I am getting at Kevin, is that if you have BP=0 in your config, it was my understanding that you do not enter a pool size in that same config. I thought that you only used a pool size if you have BP=1, in which case you use a RT value as well.

Am I wrong here?

No, I wasn't saying you were wrong about BP=0. I was adding to your comment about the other post, not contradicting your comment.

I meant that before making any bufferpools settings in fsx.cfg you really should read the advice given by Word Not Allowed and/or Bojote on the subject because it depends on what kind of PC configuration you have. You might make things a lot better or a lot worse.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Hi All,

Thanks for your comments. My only concern was that I didnt want any of the bugs to affect my experience but although the fixed list is long pending an update, they seem to be issues you dont notice. Anyone got any idea when we can expect a patch/ service update?

Cheers,

Danny.

Sometime after eventually, but before never.

Think the key thing is, until you buy it you won't really know how it runs on your system. Regardless of tweaks discussed here, everyone's system is unique, I for example run on 3 22inch displays using eye infinity and as a result will always get lower frames than if I was running it on one screen.

I've run all my aircraft on that setup for some time, when I initially got the 777 I had frequent freezes, ctd and oom issues, something I didn't get with the NGX', although the NGX would eventually OOM after multiple turn a rounds.

I brought dx10 fixer, moved over to dx10 and now I can run the 777 freeze free, and no OOM, I've flown multiple long haul flights one after the other without a single oom, ctd or Oom.

There are quite a few bugs, as seen in the list(although some missing off the list) such as ground ops keeps refuelling ac even once full if apu running. The c&d easily fixed by deleting frequencies before start, and cancelling caution light then resaving it. I'm a little unsure why PMDG haven't released a interim patch now they have highlighted and fixed quite a large number of bugs, aware they working on the freeze issue, but I'd have thought they'd let the patch out now that fixes some of the niggles for users that not suffering that.

Some of the bugs the average simmer won't notice, or can be worked around - others are a bit more fundamental but again some users will not understand or experience them depending on their knowledge and use of sim.

I like the plane, but actually think it's not as good as the NGX(which also needs patching) it's a bit boring, so automated, less "cool" features than the NGX with its HUD etc. think the 300er be better if they do camera and efb.

No sdk yet either which means can't hook it up to hardware to make it more fun.

There is no miracle performance patch we can do guys. The 777 already has all the performance optimizations that were in the NGX and then some. We can't just pull frames per second out of thin air here - FSX is what it is unfortunately. The vast majority do report (and we see this ourselves here at the company too) better frames than the NGX.
