PMDG's involvment with P3D V2 development.

Featured Replies

I'll start by saying : PMDG is the best a/c development company on today's market and as such the following must be said :

With all due respect, I hope RSR isn't sitting at home doing nothing but criticize LM about the upcoming P3D v2. I hope he cares about his customer base and not just his company's revenue  and provide LH with insightful tips about how to make P3D a better platform to develop A/C on. If PMDG will continue it's silly boycott of P3D, it would cost them the vast majority of their customer base who will eventually move on to a better, more advanced platform. I hope PMDG realizes that.

I hope PMDG will do whatever they can to help create the next installment of flight simulator x and not adhere to and old, broken platform that is bound to neglected ASAP.

Roy Loeorc.

Still wondering why the next platform HAS to be P3D? As far as I can see, P3D seems to be an "in between"-solution.

And of course, as long as the legal side isn't dealt with, there's nothing more to discuss.

Is the first post here exactly the same as a thread started earlier?

Unless LM adds a section in the EULA for home users (general consumers), then PMDG isn't likely to support P3D. Which is a shame, honestly, since it's, in my opinion, the next logical step from FSX once version 2 is finished. But since Lockheed is catering primarily to the commercial sector right now, PMDG probably isn't gonna jump on board due to the liability. If a plane were to crash and the NTSB found out the pilot had trained using a P3D-based simulator running a PMDG addon, guess who would be the first one on the chopping block? Yep, PMDG. So it's easy to see why they won't go for it. Not saying I agree with their choice, but the fact is they have to protect their best interests and this is the safest way to do it.

But make no mistake, the mouse has to follow the cheese. PMDG is a business, and they're in the business of making money. They're smart guys over there, so you can bet that if the cheese turns out to be P3D, they may well reconsider. And if not, then that's unfortunate, but the community will go on whether they are exclusive to FSX/P3D, X-Plane, or some combination thereof.

Interesting point but makes you wonder why then are developers like Carenado and Flight 1 not worried about such liability?

I would presume it's because they are not officially licensed by the manufacturers that their aircraft simulate, unlike PMDG, which has been working closely with both Boeing and airlines for years now. If their product was found to be at fault then that could also put Boeing in the hotseat for allowing PMDG to release a training aid that might not meet accuracy standards. It's too big a risk for both companies, whereas most other addon developers are not licensed or endorsed by their respective manufacturers, so there's a lot less red tape.

my fsx install is great, runs great and looks awesome.  My PC runs fsx at over 25fps(with no stutters, no blurries) with thousands of dollars of addons and I get no OOM.  I even own FTXG, FSDT KJFK V2 with Drzewiecki Design New York X and I get smooth fast 20+ fps on Final Approach into 13L with no OOM using the HD Textures.  I'm not that excited or in a hurry for P3D 2.0, I'm actually more excited in PMDG'S Xplane10 project.

Have you considered that since Boeing and LM are competitors, PMDG may not have Boeing's permission to allow Boeing aircraft simulations to run on LM's P3D ?

Boeing now has its own "Flat Screen Simulator" for pilot training- apparently a competitor for P3D

In any event, as far as certifiable pilot training, Virtual Format (& hence "panning") is not permitted by the FAA.

I believe if you research the forums thoroughly you will find information where PMDGs president mentions contractual obligations between PMDG and Boeing that prevents the use of PMDGs products for professional training. Now obviously this is the current position of PMDG but this must change in the future because Mr. Randazzo has stated that a commercial version of PMDG products with a professional license would be made available to be used with P3D. However he has stated this will not be available to the general simmer hobbyist. We will just have to see what the commercial license entails and what it costs as well as what the restrictions are to who can purchase it. I suspect Boeing will exert a lot of influence on PMDG as to who ultimately will be able to legally purchase and use PMDG products with P3D.

I'm inclined to agree. Every version will be the same old girl with new makeup and a different dress.

FSX: PMDG 744/MD11/JS41/736/737/738/739, CS752/753/763/C130, SimCheck A300, Leonardo MD82, MJC DH8D, Aerosoft CRJ7/CRJ9/A318/A319/A320/A321, RAZBAM Metroliner, ORBX Global, FlyTampa KBUF/OMDB/TNCM/VHHX, ActiveSky Next

DCS: A-10C II/F-16C/AH-64D/F-15E/KA-50 III/Mi-24/Persian Gulf/Syria/F-15C

XP11: FF 752/753, iniBuilds A306, HotStart TBM900

MSFS: Fenix A320, FS2Crew Fenix A320, FS2Crew Pushback Express, PMDG B77W, ActiveSky FS, Drzewiecki Design UUEE

I hope you didn't do it on purpose, but why is it a new trend too make double posts? Think how nice the forum will be if we all do that!

I'm not that excited or in a hurry for P3D 2.0, I'm actually more excited in PMDG'S Xplane10 project.

if pointless speculation and banging on about the same hoary old chestnuts were gold this forum would be 20 carat ... why don't all the armchair pundits give it a rest? .....

I really hope that we´ll see PMDG Products for Prepar3d in the future. I think Prepar3d is the best solution at the moment because we payed so much money for all our FSX Addons and i´m sure that we don´t want to start with a complete new system (Xplane), where we can´t use our FSX Addons. Okay, Prepar3d isn´t really a NEW simulator, but if we get a better performance and GPU usage in V2, it´ll be a huge step forward.
