October 19, 201312 yr I just purchased and received FS2004 and want to install it, but as I look over the disks, box (tin) and written installation info, it doesn't say anything about a product key code being required, nor can I find one. Does it not have one for installation?
October 19, 201312 yr No key required. However, to run the sim you need to have disc 1 in the CD drive.
October 19, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the info! I just didn't want to install everything and find I would have to remove it. So, now it's on to installation! Leafhopper
October 19, 201312 yr No key required. However, to run the sim you need to have disc 1 in the CD drive. Are you sure? Mine says "to have Disc 4 in the CD drive each time you start". Colin B
October 19, 201312 yr It is disc 4 that needs to be in the CD/DVD drive from which you installed FS9.
October 19, 201312 yr I just purchased and received FS2004All I can say is: congratulations! The greatest thing about FS2004 is that you can shape it to be exactly the kind of sim you want it to be. You can fly it straight out of the box, and if you feel anything needs improving: there are thousands of addon possibilities to make you happy. And millions of hours of user experience, all over the forums. Happy Flying!
October 19, 201312 yr Author All I can say is: congratulations! I had FS2004 years ago (when it first came out) and flew it for many years (and all the flight sim versions from DOS to 2004, with all kinds of addon planes and scenery. Then, because of health issues I had to give it up and then my computer crashed...lost it all. I'm doing better now, so I wanted to get back into it, but I couldn't find my disk 4. Had the other disks okay. So, had to buy it again. Just installed it in my new computer and I'm trying to re-learn everything from scratch. It's been 5 years since I've flown my FS2004. I really missed it (I miss all those payware addons, too)! Happy Flying, Indeed! and the same to all! I've got FSX coming next week.
October 19, 201312 yr Well reading your OP, I had hoped you were an FS2004 newbie! Nonetheless, you may find it interesting to see where the sim has gone in 5 years. We don't mention Effeh Sex in this forum
October 20, 201312 yr Author Okay, it seems to me that MS issued an SP for FS2004, or maybe 2? If so, is there someplace where I can get that? Thanks Leafhopper
October 20, 201312 yr There was only 1 SP for FS2004 - find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9727
October 20, 201312 yr Author Wow! Thanks so much! I'm glad to see that the AVSIM community is as helpful and informative as I remember! I used to live on this forum (from inception 'till about 2007), kinda hurts to see I lost all that seniority, must have been lost during a forum remodel, I guess. Oh well, it's good to be back. Guess I best uninstall FS2004 and all my new old addons so I can have a clean install to apply the SP1 patch. It's like ground school all over again before I can take off! Thanks again for all the help, you guys are the best! (I'm sure I'll have more questions as the days go by. Leafhopper
October 20, 201312 yr Since your FS9 was recently purchased, you may already have an updated copy. I bought my FS9 just over a year ago and it's 9.1 out of the box. Here's a copy and paste from the site containing the update to determine if you need it: To determine if you need the Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (UPDATE):1. Run Flight Simulator 2004.2. Click Fly Now!3. Press ALT to display the menu bar.4. Click About Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Help menu.5. Check the version number in the About Microsoft Flight Simulator dialog box. If the version number is 9.0 we recommend installing the update. After updating, the version number for Flight Simulator 2004 will be 9.1. Nature Boy
October 21, 201312 yr Author Thanks, Groovin! Well, I went ahead and installed the SP before I got your reply. It probably was 9.1, but, it's updated for sure now. Now, if I could just figure out all my new Saitek stuff and my TrackIR. It's going to be awhile before I can actually fly more than 3 to 5 minutes at a time. I've got rudder pedals that, instead of toe brakes, the left toe banks the plane right, the right toe does something else weird and the trim wheel does nuttin' but look pretty. The throttle quandrant throttle works, but the prop pitch seems to want to be the elevator, and the mixture...well, we won't go there! But, I've only just begun to set things up and I've got a lot of reading to do. I might even figure this thing out, if not, I'll be back with more questions. Thanks again! Some of this is starting to come back to me, but 4 years away from it and it seems I forgot everything I learned in 7 years of FS.
October 21, 201312 yr Get a registered copy of FSUIPC. Download the latest .dll from here http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html 3.999z8 Then go to simmarket and buy a licence. Best way to assign and calibrate your peripherals. Peter Schluter
October 21, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the link! I'm wondering, though, since I have a new FSX coming, can you have 2 versions of FSUIPC (one for each sim version)? I'm not doing the multiple monitor thing, so I don't need the widescreen utility, but, will fsuipc version 3.999z8 work okay with FSX, or do I need that version of fsuipc? Leafhopper
