October 22, 201312 yr (...) We have had attempts at pedophilia. I cannot imagine trying to explain to a parent why we let the offender have a second chance. A second chance to do what? Repeat the behavior? Ain't going to happen. (...) And I really, really hope that someone who figures out a 'grey area' there will quickly learn that his 'grey area' is actually a pitch black one, Tom ... What happened to AVSIM
October 22, 201312 yr will the points be reset after say/..10 years? of whatever years it requires to rest the slate clean? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 23, 201312 yr Author will the points be reset after say/..10 years? of whatever years it requires to rest the slate clean? You need to re-read the opening message in this topic. Points expire. Just don't collect too many before your previous points do.
October 23, 201312 yr I feel like you should be able to shed your accumulated warning points any time you make Tom laugh hard enough to spill something on his desk. Tell you what. I'll volunteer to taking on -200 points, and seeing if I can get that down to 0 by the end of the year. I know, we'll call it laugh-or-ban. [haha, nice system guys. Glad you're doing something about the bad eggs] Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
October 23, 201312 yr Author Tell you what. I'll volunteer to taking on -200 points, You take on that many warning points and you won't be posting here for 3 lifetimes. But, the idea is interesting. Except, instead of just me, it would have to be the entire moderating team that you would have to make laugh, and some of these guys are well, humorless. Unlike me, of course. :LMAO:
October 23, 201312 yr ....Unlike me, of course. :LMAO: It's humour Tom, but not as we know it. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

Unlike me, of course. :LMAO: That idea doesn't seem particularly funny to me either... Although I will admit that I usually greatly appreciate my good friend Ron's skillful use of his highly developed sense of humor that requires a significant sophistication of analytical abilities sometimes not available to any but the most elite among us... ...including Tom and I, and the rest of the moderating team, our closest friends and those we feel sufficiently respect our superiority, of course! Kind regards
October 27, 201312 yr A great approach, which I support. However, I do agree with B777ER's point below :- Tom - Just curious, (not worried about myself) but will there be any sort of an appeals process? Maybe a user posts something that a mod may find abusive and assigns points to them. However maybe that was not the intention of the users post. The problem at times is the "intent" of the message may get lost in translation so to speak. This is more so on this board with users from all over the world. There IMO should be a method for a user to appeal any points. What one mod may find offensive is not necessarily what another may think. Very subjective. I have seen some Mods exercise their rights and powers highly appropriately, and the odd exception where a Mod just got wound up, or had personal value issues with what was being said, or perhaps was just caught on a bad day .... and over-reacted, as most would agree unfairly. It's a real minority case, and I honestly believe the Mods here generally do a great job. The one person who I have seen 'snap' out warnings and locks rarely seems to post or moderate now any way, at least on the FSX forums. But the opportunity to fire off an 'explanation' to a different mod to act as a 'mediator' would be cool.
October 27, 201312 yr Author But the opportunity to fire off an 'explanation' to a different mod to act as a 'mediator' would be cool. Dave, none of us are perfect, and believe me, every moderator here would acknowledge that about themselves, including me. The right of appeal always exists of course and you are free to appeal to any moderator that you feel comfortable in doing so with. If you, or anyone reading this, feels that they have been treated capriciously, unfairly or because the moderator was having a "bad" day, then hit the report button or the PM function and voice your appeal. But, make sure you are standing on firm ground when you do. Blatant violations of our Terms of Service, followed by "I was unfairly treated by the mod; he sucks" kind of message will most like get you hammered for not reading or abiding by or Terms of Service, instead of the "Yes, ain't that awful" response that you were expecting.

Can't say fairer than that Tom. Cheers. Two points for mis-spelling paedophilia. You're wrong I'm afraid; In the UK, AUS, NZ and possibly Canada it is spelled 'Paed'.... but in the US it is spelled 'Ped'. So as Tom is American, and this is a US hosted site, the spelling was correct
October 28, 201312 yr In a US hosted site why spell behavior behaviour? And "pediphilia" is still a mis-spellling, isn't it?
October 28, 201312 yr In a US hosted site why spell behavior behaviour? If your talking to me, well that would be because I'm British. I don't think Tom expects everyone to communicate in strict American English. My point was; Tom is American so spells in American English (obviously), others who are British, Oz, NZ, etc, will obviously write in British English, or in their own country's variation of English..........
October 28, 201312 yr Dave, I was referring to the graphic attached to post #1 of this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/uploads/monthly_10_2013/post-100001-0-53984900-1382377593.jpg You will find the words "behaviour" and "pediphilia" in it. I don't know who wrote it, and I don't think it matters. "Pediphilia" is a mis-spelling, agreed?
