November 21, 201312 yr In the time since the beta testers were freed from the nondisclosure agreement and the runup to the release, all the talk seems to be about buffer pools and vsync and and autogen and all that other other esoteric stuff we FSX-ers have come to know and love. However, and maybe I've just missed it, but no one has flat out said what their frame rates have been, how fluid the flying or simply how pretty it looks. Again, did I just miss the thread?
November 21, 201312 yr Apparently, they weren't completely released from their NDA. Looks like they've been allowed to post screenshots and videos, however they are not being allowed to discuss or illustrate performance and technical details. Monday is only a few days away in the grand scheme of things - we'll have to wait and see!
November 21, 201312 yr Which is wise, since LM has stated that they might still introduce changes to features and performance in the RTM version. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
November 21, 201312 yr One beta tester did comment on it (on here I think in fact). He made the comment that he couldn't run FSX at anywhere near the levels he's running P3Dv2 at. That's probably all you'll get until the NDA is fully lifted.
November 21, 201312 yr There are some hints from the testers here and there ... But I agree that it would be nice to receive some more information on this (and also the smoothness). I think it will be: You will get what you pay for . Especially if you are willing to pull back the sliders a bit (not everything maxed out) perfomance with a mordern GPU should be o.k. November 21, 201312 yr Just 1 question I dont see answered. Is P3D V.2 going to be regularly updated or will updates become V.3 ? V2 seems to be a giant step forward from FSX but it will probably still mean the software is years behind on its capability. (5years instead of 10years behind) Was 1.4 updated regularly with fixes or did they save it for V.2 ? I would cough up 60 bucks if this means im contributing to an update/improvement program that lasts for at least a couple years to come, but with a possibility (like MS`s FSX) that it all ends next year i just cant be sure about that.
November 21, 201312 yr It will be regularly updated. The developers have already cited features they are working on for V2.1 (SLI support, cloud shadows, etc.).
November 21, 201312 yr Yes, And thankfully all updates are "In Situ" rather than a complete re install
November 21, 201312 yr Moderator No one can really answer a question about frame rates except as it applies to THEIR system. The product has a 60 day money back period. Buy the darn thing and find out for yourself! What *I* get on *my* system is absolutely USELESS to anyone else yet we get the constant question - How are the FPS? etc. Try it and go from there. November 21, 201312 yr Moderator Was 1.4 updated regularly with fixes or did they save it for V.2 ? No, v1.4 was never "updated" at all. P3D was released as v1.0 The first update was v1.1 Followed by v1.2 Then v1.3 and finally, v1.4 See the pattern? All updates to any current version are known as "minor" or "dot releases." All "major" changes to software are indicated by the number to the left of the decimal point, hence v2.0... Fr. November 23, 201312 yr Commercial Member It's really quite simple, if you're worried about the performance of P3DV2, just buy it, configure it, and run it. Do absolutely whatever you want for 60 days, and at the end of it, if you're not satisfied with the performance/whatever, return it. LM's return policy is extremely generous IMO.60 days to muck about with the software, for the low low price of $0 (in the end). Aamir Thacker
