Which GA aircraft?

Featured Replies

I'm hesitating which one to buy, maybe owners of the products can give me some thoughts?I'm looking for excellent (!) flight dynamics (i.e. not a bird that needs 10 deg nose up with full flaps at 80 kts or so) primarily, and secondarily I want a 2D panel which doesn't feel like assembled in a rush from default gauges and miniaturized so much one cannot read a single digit! So, cCrisp, fluent and clearly readable gauges as well as an FDE "as close as it gets" is a must ;-) (I'm a passionate hand-flyer, no matter if it's "big iron" or a GA plane...)!The planes I consider to buy are either Carenado's new Piper 180F, Aussimm's Warrior II/III, or Flight1's Cessna 172.Andreas

Flight 1 Cessna for me. It does everything you ask in particular the crisp panel in 2D - That said though, I can hardly see any difference between the VC either. Fantastic attention to detail in dynamics also.Best WishesEddy

I have all of them and I'd say go with the Flight1 172. IMNSO, it has the best flight dynamics of the three and has, by far, the best 2D panel (especially with regard to gauge size and clarity - they are really easy to read).Doug

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

The 172 is great as mentioned. If you are interested in Piper, take a look at the Dreamfleet Archer. It is still one of the best GA addons ever.

Thank you so far. It's like I have expected: I'll try F1 Cessna 172. And in a 2nd step (if I have some more money left to spend) a Piper...Andreas

I'll add Flight1's Cessna 172.However, Carenado has a "2 for 1" sale that may be of interest. Their popular C210 is combined with their Archer in one package--I recall a lot of happy campers when the C210 was released.-John

I'll throw another into the mix... the Aerosoft Diamond Katana. Great little hand flyer (no autopilot). Nice cockpit w/ a top notch VC (I never fly the airplane in 2D, always VC). One of the things I like best about the Katana is it's visibilty from the cockpit. Much better view than the standard Piper or Cessna.Cheers,Greg

Hey Greg,Forgotten that one !!Good call too.RegardsEddy

Have you tried the RealAir Simulations FREEWARE 172, for MSFS2004 available here?I like the flight dynamics and the Air File is top notch, IMHO, but what do I know, I just fly them as a certificated pilot. :-)It's here in the Library:Download Here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=...hor=&CatID=Rootme ... ....

FSD-International is having a "2-for-1" sale as well. Buy one aircraft and get another one (any one) for FREE! I just bought the Aerostar and got the Navajo for free. You should check them out, they have excellent aircraft and a pretty good GA selection. If you want a turboprop, the Cheyenne is one of the best out there. For piston twins, the Seneca, Navajo and Aerostar are all top-notch. I don't have any other aircraft from them so I can't give an informed opinion about the Commander or Pilatus. My favorite is the Cheyenne though :) Good luck!

Keep in mind though that the freeware Realair 172 uses MSFS's default visual model. So I would label that an update to an existing package vs. a standalone integrated package like the others mentioned in the thread.-John

John,The original author never stated whether the outside visuals were of any importance or not.He mentioned FDE, and Panels, which also BTW, are important to me as well. I prefer flying from the inside rather than from the outside, and while outside visuals ar enice, there are far more important features that I look for, such as those that the original author mentioned. And the FDE is very well done, IMHO, as is the panel.me ... ....

My bad....I keyed on this line:"The planes I consider to buy are either Carenado's new Piper 180F, Aussimm's Warrior II/III, or Flight1's Cessna 172."rather than the paragraph just prior to it, where he laid out the qualifications you mention.Me too...

I have flown all 3 aircraft on a friends system recently. The 180F is a great and extremly realistic aircraft. The Warrior is a nice plane, but when i flew, the flight dynamics were just a little off, and take off was difficult and it was hard to flare with out a tail strike. The cessna wasnt anything special to me. is seemed pretty close to the default. If you want a nice 172, stick to the default. :-wave hope this helped

Based on what you are looking for: One more vote for the Flight1 172.- Best, readable panel- Excellent FDE... a joy to fly by handIn Addition: a VC that matches the 2d panel exactly, and a very nicely finished outside design as well.ps. If you are looking for something hotter.. the RealAir Marchetti, the Flight1 Meridian and the Flight1 C441 are all outstanding!
