FBW trim issue, fixed for SP1 or not?

Featured Replies

fair enough mate, will read up on the trim again. From memory the aircraft is just behaving fully auto trim like the bus? In other words no need to click on the trim switch?

In reality it should automatically trim out config changes, as a result of flap deployment etc, it does this okay. Where it goes wrong is in terms of speed changes. If you leave then trim alone, and don't touch it, but simply use elevator input to maintain flight path, it trims automatically when it shouldn't.

As real world 777 pilots on the forum have said, trimming for speed should feel just like trimming any aircraft.

Ah ok, so it behaves like an Airbus

Not exactly.

I don't think elevator input is required to activate the auto trim in an Airbus. May be wrong. In the bus it just trims it out regardless I believe. The weirdness of the PMDG T7 is that you actually have to apply a reasonable elevator input for a fair while.

I'm not a real 777 pilot, have never been to a 777 Level D Sim, all the information I have I got from manuals, and some real pilots description. But for me, right now, the PMDG 777 is a terrible plane to hand fly. It's just unpredictable. You have no idea when you need to trim, when it's going to trim by itself, how long it takes for it to trim.

It ends up being a stressful task, rather than a pleasure, hand flying this otherwise beautiful bird.

@ Martin, yep.. no need for elevator input on the bus. Would really like to experience this quirk first hand, unlikely I will be able to fly the T7 before mid February now.

Just curious as to how it got through beta, I can imagine most would be disconnecting the autopilot configured and flying Vref, you wouldn't notice an issue in that situation.

Its not only unrealistic this autotrimming, it is also fighting my manual trim inputs causing overtrim and unstability.

And it annoys the.......out of me!

All discuscions here about whether or not the 777 FBW is a show stopper, whether or not I should or should not fly other aircraft, about hardware, etc are irrelevant.

All I am hoping for is an answere from PMDG that reads: "yes the FBW system has been fixed in SP1"

Rob Robson

I'm also with Martin and Rob...

Besides, I think the issue with the FWB is so critical (at least to those of us who use the this simulation in a 100% real manner), that it should have been dealed with and solved ASAP the first place and then have been released as a hotfix ASAP also.

It bothers me that me (and others like me) are having to wait for months in order for PMDG to make a lot of fixes (that most of them if not all does not affect me). I respectfully think this is not fair. Thought many simmers don't think like me, this (the FWB issue) is essential for me ( and others) to fly this aircraft. I also have my T7 in the hangar after the first few days, waiting for this. I don't care about the CTD's etc...I don't have them. I understand that others have, but not everyone.

Why do we have to wait in order to be able to have a complete and real behaviour of the FBW?

As I said, I think this issue shoud have been fixed urgently time ago, and  we should be enjoying it time ago too.

I paid for a correctly woriking FBW and don't have it...I don't care about the other problems I'm not having....I'm not saying they should not be fixed of course, but If you have the FBW already fixed, the release it....I don't uderstand this way of dealing with this issue from PMDG.

Cheers.

I'm disappointed in PMDG. They have spent this long and we all thought it was to release a patch for an expensive but great product. But a few days ago I read info about the 300ER and how they are working hard to release that soon.

This sounds like Captain Sim tactics to me. Can we please have the update to fix this awful FBW and also the low visibility in the virtual cockpit bug? The freezing issue would be nice to be fixed too. Same with the problem loading panel states (No I'm not talking about the cold and dark one I mean every panel state when first loading the airplane does not load correctly)

The SP should have been released in Dec, with the whole team stopping the 300ER and making sure the 200LR customers are all happy. rant off

Uh!? I don't get this thread at all.. what do want from PMDG to confirm? They said that the FBW system re-write is in the works. I don't think it's something that's done over few weeks (or even months) nor it should be rushed! Again - it is in the known issues thread!! They know about it, they for sure want to fix it and they are definitely fixing it right now. Do you think the PMDG team wants to take all your money, pack the bags and leave you with a "bugged" aircraft?!

Enjoy the holidays and look forward to the upcoming updates in 2014...

Take our money and pack their bags? No. But today it is take our money and eventually they'll get around to fixing the product but only after they can release a new product that takes other peoples money.

The only way to describe the behavior of pitch when hand flying is manual trim seems unresponsive (which it shouldn't), whilst the auto-trim is so slow as to render the aircraft un-trimmable until it catches up (a function which shouldn't exist in the first place).

@FLEX1978: I'm surprised by your comment, further up. Whatever the 777 is doing right now, is wrong from any angle. Manual trim basically doesn't work, and the auto-trim that exists is so slow it is useless. If it auto-trimmed like the Airbus (very quickly!) then at least it would be flyable (even if it is wrong), but the problem is it doesn't work like that all, meaning it is out of trim the majority of the time you're hand flying it, which is a big problem.

The real 777 has the manual handling of a Cessna (including manual trim), with the benefits of FBW systems (gust compensation, artificial feel, adaptive feel, and flight envelope protections).

Can we get some comment from PMDG on the status of this for SP1, please? If there is no comment, I'll assume there is currently no fix.

Best regards,

Robin.

Over the top hyperbole is going to get you absolutely nothing. Many of you doing it here have been warned before.

Seriously - we are well aware of the issue, there is nothing else you need to do or "worry" about. What exactly is it with this community where it's just constantly assumed that we're out to screw everyone? What exactly in our past leads you to believe that is what will happen? Would we still be here if that's how we operated?

And just FYI - SP1 is coming out the same day as the 300ER, the 300ER requires it to even run. You can stop with the asinine conspiracy theories.
