December 31, 200421 yr There we go again. Thread #99999999999 about what will be in the next version.
December 31, 200421 yr Commercial Member >- complete REDSIGN of our Scenery Engine (Halo 2 Engine!!!)I hope that's a joke - Halo 2 is quite possibly one of the ugliest games out there - how it was compared to Half-Life 2 and FarCry graphically is just beyond me - an XBOX is a P3 733Mhz with a GeForce 3 - a modern PC is capable of sooooo much more than what Halo 2 looks like. December 31, 200421 yr dont worry Tabs... I am sure his post was 'tounge in cheek'.Mars Rover??? no one would seriously suggest that along with Halo junk.was a funny post though, I too almost fell for it. January 1, 200521 yr GIVE IT UP ALREADY... :-boom We'll see FS2k6 when it comes out, FS10 will be released...All I'm worried about at this point is all the new great add-ons on the horizon that'll be released in 2005 for FS2k4.DreamFleet's 737-200Level D's 767PICPMDG's 747-400I could care less about FS2k6 at this point. Microsoft will let us know when they're ready. I'm personally not looking forward to the hassle of waiting for SDK's and upgrades to all my FS2k4 add-ons... January 1, 200521 yr Eh, well, joke post or not, I might as well toss in my 2 cents worth.New graphics engine-- Yes, FS2004 with the right addons and the right tweaking does look great, but we're talking about a system that's basically a cumulative update to the original FS5 engine. A decade-old engine, to put it into perspective. I don't presume to demand FarCry-level graphics, especially considering the massive amount of space it would need. However, a more streamlined code with transitional backwards compatibility with current stuff would be nice (sorta like the ability FS5 had with importing FS4 .SC1 files, despite how goofy it looked). Let FS11 become FS10-generation only, so as to be able to move on.More comprehensive systems simulation-- True, the base package with default aircraft are dumbed down to cater to a wider and less "sophisticated" customer base than the Avsim faithful, but it would be nice to have some framework built in that addon developers can take advantage of. Give developers the ability to, for example, create a more true to life simulation of the Airbus aircraft (and no, I'm no "a really excited user". I just recognize that they can't be modelled very well in the current system).Smarter ATC-- Yeah, yeah, we all hate the constant go-arounds, but I think that's because FS2002/04 ATC was designed to work with the default AI. I don't recall having them before I got PAI-happy. Rather than go point by point on how I'd like to see it improved, I'd just like a system that'd make the Radar Contact guys say "DANG, that's some fine ATC right there!" :)These ideas have been repeated ad nauseum here on the forums, and I know you're all tired of seeing them. I just thought I'd toss 'em out there as my top wishes. January 1, 200521 yr Does it really matter what they add to fs2006? We will all probably end up buying the new version even if where not impressed with the new additions especially when developers start developing products exclusively for the new version.Andrew
January 1, 200521 yr Good suggestions. I'd liked to see a graphics engine that takes full advantage of todays and tomorrows graphics cards and is highly optimised. It's kind of odd to still have such very basic problems like blurry textures in 2005!happy new year.May those who lost their lives in the massive tragedie rest in peace. My thoughts are with the people who have lost so much.Claude
January 1, 200521 yr I'm still using FS2002, and I'm not going to upgrade to FS2004 :( I will upgrade to FS2006, which I'm expecting later this year :DMS released a patch for FS2004 a couple of months ago, but that doesn't mean FS2006 is delayed! The FS2000 patches came out in 2000, and FS2002 was released the following year ;) Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
January 1, 200521 yr Completely new graphics engine will mean ALL scenery, aircraft, and just about all other addons (and defaults) that have a visual representation will no longer work.Even the rumour that this would be done for FS2002 caused massive complaints (back when noone had even seen a beta of FS2002) and hundreds of people chiming in they'd "never buy it"...You say the graphics engine is 10 years old. It isn't... Sure it's based on a system created 10 years ago but it's had so much of its code swapped out for other code taking advantage of new technologies over times you'd have do dig deep and hard to find any of the original stuff in there still. An analogy is the old axe which had its head replaced 5 times and the handle 7 times. Is it still the same old axe? I'd say it isn't...Or maybe an old ship that was restored by over time replacing every single piece of the original wood and fittings with new wood and fittings. Is that still the old ship?

January 1, 200521 yr As far as I am concerned, MicroSoft is like the cat in this image. Yes, they have a good grasp of the "market", but that market can eat them alive - you know, be careful of what you latch onto, cause it can come back to bite you - and we (this community) are pretty good at doing that on a fairly consistent basis. MicroSoft can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time, and this crowd only about 3% of the time on any given day. :) http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/102343.gif
