I am astonished by some of the negative comments re the Q400.

There is nothing wrong at all with the FMC. It is perfectly adequate for the type. And somebody complainef about the cockpit desighn, again, that baffles me.

Regarding the handling, the dash has a less than adequate yaw damper. So requires trim. However, you can overcome that by switchng off prop wash. Much better if you use a joystick.

Regarding landing, I have no idea why some find it hard. Just remember that you land a Dash WITH POWER ON and you shouldn't have any problems.

You will be disapointed with the Leonardo virtual cockpit...the Coolksy/McPhat DC9 is an excellent add on that hand flies very well.  It's a challenge to learn, but a very rewarding airplane if you are not interested in just hitting the AP button at 400' AGL and sitting back, and, well, just sitting back, then this is a very good choice.

And, it was built for the short routes you want to fly.

The Q400 FMC certainly isn't as robust as say the NGX either RW or in the sim. However, the Majestic Q400 FMC inconsistently sequences waypoints incorrectly. This has been an issue since release. Majestic has acknowledged this problem and is working on it. A qoute by Majestic on their forum posted January 16th...

"We are now finalizing a re-work of the FMS termination and RNP algorithms and with the next hotfix there will be a significant improvement regarding the leg switching math"

I have all of the aircraft mentioned in the previous posts except the Maddog and the Flight 1 version of the B200 Kingair.

Firstly, I acknowledge that I have a bit of a "set" against the Q400. I prefer Majestic's 300 model any day but it seems to be no longer available for purchase except in a training version costing over $200.

Both the QW Avros and the Coolsky DC-9 are great.

I use the Avro in most places in Australia. It is less complicated and, in my view, looks better than the Q400.

My use of the DC-9 here depends on how "short" the regional runs you are referring to are. I use the J41 more than the DC-9

I think the problem is that some ill-informed people expecpt an FMC like you get in a big passenger aircraft. This is a regional turboprop, they tend not to have a highly complex FMC like a big passenger airliner would... simply because it isn't required. If anyone finds the FMC in the Dash inadequate for their needs, then there's something wrong somewhere. It's pointless putting an FMC in a regional turboprop with 747,777, 787, A320 complexity.

As for the bug you mention, it's a new product, with only one patch to date. The NGX has had many patches. Like any product bugs are expected and will be fixed. And to be honest, for a new release, the bugs in the Dash are minimal. A fine achievement by Majestic.

I don't wish to sound like a majestic fanatic, but I don't want some of the unfair comments made to put people of this fine add-on.

The Q400 went on sale April of 2013 which hardly makes it a new release. The original version was 1.005. It has since been updated to version 1.006, then 1.007, then 1.008 with the most recent being a hotfix to version 1.008, 1.00801. That's quite a few more patches than just one.

Considering the numerous updates and price point of this model, it still carries too many bugs IMO. But as always, a potential customer would be well advised to read through the Majestic Q400 forum on their product site and make their own decision.

Very kind of Majestic to release hotfixes' don't you think. Unlike some developers who keep you hanging for months for one super patch.

I don't regard a hotfix as a major service pack but there you go.

And do you really think the Q400 has too many bugs??? If you'd been simming as long as me [perhaps you have] you'd think differently. I've had no major issues at all personally. No show stoppers what so ever.
