Will it be at an upgrade price over pilot edition? Or will they make you buy it in full?

IIRC, I read somewhere you can pay the difference between the two to upgrade to the pro version.

edit: found it at simmarket

"NOTE: Purchase with confidence. If you wish to upgrade to the Pro or Trainer version when these become available, you will be doing so at no extra cost, just pay the difference."

Honestly the Q400 lost its luster a few weeks in. I just hate that aircraft. The flow is really bad, the cockpit design is worse, the fmc is a joke that must have been programmed by the employees children, but of course the addon itself is amazing. Great framerates and graphics only 2nd to PMDG. It has working weather radar which is amazing but be warned you might not actually enjoy flying it!

A lot of real world pilots say the same thing about the Q!

It is indeed a quirky beast and a real bear to land in all but the calmest weather, but for me that's what makes it so much fun.  I've had it since last May and am only starting to get competent with a flaps 35 landing in harsh weather conditions.

Regarding the Q400, does anyone have thoughts on the turbulence that was added in the latest update? That was the only thing that has kept me from buying it so far.

The turbulence adds a whole new dimension--no longer does the Q400 fly on rails.  Some people think its too exaggerated, but as of the latest version they've added a property you can use to dampen the effect that turbulence has on the plane, so you can tweak it to whatever feels comfortable/realistic.

Both the Flight 1 DC-9 and Q400 are great aircraft, to be honest I cant advise you as I love them both.  2 other great aircraft are the Flight 1 B200  kingair  and QW Avro jets.

Fantastic simulation of a dud aircraft

Sorry, in post #21 I meant that I did not find it a user-friendly aircraft to use on the PC, I have no idea about its merits in real life.

the Majestic Q400 or the Flight1 DC9

I would remove from the shortlist the DC9, and put there instead the Leonardo Maddog MD-82 2010 Pro.

I have the J41 and the Q400, the DC9, QW RJ/Bae ...  - enjoyed them all for a while, hardly fly them much now. Currently looking at either the Carenado Beech 1900D or Razbam's Metro III. While the Beech 1900D would be more appropriate for me as a short haul airline, the Metro strikes me as being a more complete experience.. yet to buy either.

J41 I little long in the tooth, but still a great bird to fly ( that I only rarely do ).

Q400 - a little frustrated as the latest patch appears to have broken some things for me.

DC9 - Steam machine - don't fly it much, but it is a good experience and an excellent modeld with most systems modelled.

I guess I last about 2-3 weeks flying then kinda lose interest for a while before coming back for another flight or two. The more complex the aircraft, the more you must recall or remember when starting up and flying again.... I also purchased the Trotter, Aerosoft A320/321 and PMDG 738.

The Airbus is supplied with extras that give it a real involved flying experience so still tend to fly that. The PMDG 738 I still fly at times too having spent a lot of time flying it when it first came out (that one was outside the 2 - 3 week spectrum). I have also come back to the QW RJ/Bae now that the Bae model is out.. but while the FDE is good there a lot of things not working for me as they should do (no Tug on pushback is a minor one even when selected)..still it feels right. Also the ILS approach and crosswind issue isn't go to go away completely by the looks of things.

So.. 2- 3 weeks divided by the purchase price, plus the occassional flight later works out cheaper for a $40 aircraft versus a $60 dollar aircraft if you are looking for an cost vs enjoyment graph - and also take into account aircraft performance or visual  bugs yet to be fixed,  or just minor ones that have no real impact...

So finally to answer your question; either model is good. Both reasonably complex.. but personally I would be buying the DC-9 for a more intense VOR to VOR flying experience.

DC-9 is a fantastic product, and unlike most add-ons in that it is all steam gauges. It makes a great tonic for the jaded, and Coolsky has done a lot to make the unfamiliar world of state-of-the-art:1960s accessible.

The OP has limited his list to the Flight1 Coolsky DC9 or the Majestic Dash 8.  You really can't go wrong with either choice.....but the edge for me goes to the Dash 8....ever so slightly.  I would especially recommend this for Australian regional hops (Quantas).

Another vote for the Q400 which IMO is a superb product in every way but, like some others have suggested, I would also consider the Quality Wings 146/RJ for regional routes. I can't comment on the F1 DC-9 as I don't have it, but after reading some of the comments above I am thinking about it now!
