there isnt 2014 updates so far, although as its been mentioned many many times, you can add schedules very easily, for example ai alpha group have just released a bunch of summer 2014 schedules. So for example you load the ut2 gui, disable the virgin Atlantic schedules from the database menu and then use power pack to install the ai alpha group ones. simples and takes about 5 mins at most.

Thanks I have just started experimenting with the power pack today. It's brilliant never used it as it looked a little dounting but it's a very flexible tool. Been looking in the library's here at the ups/fedex schedule must of taken that guy hours to put together that much detail. Anyone seen a dhl schedule anywhere didn't see one here ?

Can you also do this with WOAI schedules and airlines that are not part of the UT2 database ?

Hey Mark, that is the beauty of the Powerpack module.  It was released by the developers specifically to expand upon the built in UT2 airline database, as they know they cannot possibly offer all the airlines/cargo carriers of the world.   So all you need to do is make sure you have some prerequisites taken care off, namely, you are in possession of three .txt files for the impacted airline named aircraft.txt, flightplans.txt, and airports.txt.   You open up Powerpack to import the flightplans.txt file, and allow PP to convert the 3 files into a usable UT2 database file.   Then open UT2 and assign the aircraft listed in the newly created databse file to models/paints in your simobjects folder (which could be recycled from the packages you installed via WOAI, or you have to locate on the web and install yourself) and you will now have WOAI or other alternate flightplans handled by UT2 in FSX.

You could just install the alpha india or WOAI schedules by normal means outside of UT2, creating the traditional traffic.bgl files in your scenery folder.   However, with UT2 handling that traffic, you can take advantage of the many ways it allows the user to increase performance, by suppressing the drawing of ground traffic at airports when you fly over a specific altitude, and that traffic will now fly real world routes using real waypoints, like we all do in our user addon aircraft.

This takes work of course, so for me, I only import WOAI or other schedules into UT2 if they are a major airline.   I tend to use traditional .bgl traffic files not processed by UT2 for cargo carriers or obscure airlines that I rarely see.   And for all GA traffic, as there are tons and tons of paints in each file that would be an exhaustive effort to assign in UT2.

As mentioned before in this thread, assigning new airlines or replacing the missing paints in the default UT2 schedule can be very addicting, and at one point was a sub hobby of mine in addition to just simming.   But if you have the time or inclination to handle the massive work involved, UT2 is heads and shoulders above the rest of the competition, including freeware offerings like WOAI, for the simple fact that all the major carriers are included, and the models look great because they are largely the same models used by WOAI.  And the schedule uses airlines flying their real routes and times in the real world, which the other 2 payware competitors do not offer as they fly fictional routes.

I have also found that the aircraft tend to behave themselves better with UT2 when on final approach. Whilst BGL files can work fine, I noticed some aircraft suddenly dropping out of the sky on final approach, and landing well short of the runway. When I integrated the same schedule into UT2, that problem vanished.

Yep, way too many Piper Cubs and Mauls in FSX and Ultimate Traffic.

The reason for this is the fact that UT2 does not offer any GA traffic models at all and uses the FSX standard planes for this purpose. I always thought that this is, besides that it looks rather strange, also a big hit on performance when a major airport also displays many GA planes using the FSX standard models. "Easy" solution: get yourself GA AI models, in my case, I simply downloaded the FTX NA GA traffic package and reassigned the UT2 GA flightplans to the FTX GA traffic models. You get a nice selection of planes there (Archer II, Archer III, Warrior, Cessna 172, Cessna 402, Learjets, Gulfstreams etc.). If you don't mind that your GA traffic is then basically only composed of planes carrying a NXXXX or a C-XXXX registration, this would be an option. Just be aware that the FTX GA traffic models are not FSX native (as all other UT2 models), which results in some problems using aircraft shadows on ground for some sceneries with custom runway textures (e.g. LSZH, PHNL from FSDT amongst others). I am currently converting all those planes to FSX native models using ModelConverterX, but there are many culprits within those old-school FS9 models and I am not an expert in modelling. Maybe in some years, I have successfully converted all of them...

Thanks for your detailed response.  I assume you would then have to delete the old WOAI traffic bgl files, correct?  Are these just located in the main FSX directory?

Mark   CYYZ

Yep, I forgot to mention that you would need to delete the relevant traffic.bgl file, located at Microsoft Flight Simulator\Scenery\World\Scenery, lest you want to see duplicate flights.

That tutorial was written by Norman Dean (the AFCAD designer for UK2000), and it was a great help to me in learning how to integrate airline schedules and AI models into UT2.

I like UT2 but I find the AI  Piper Cubs annoying.   Is there anyway to delete that specific aircraft?

Yes, there is. Just load the UT2 utility software, and edit the UT2_DailyOfficial.db file. There are several sections on the left (large business, medium business etc), so just look for the relevant one that has the Piper Cub in it. Remove that plane, create the new repaint list, and then SAVE THE ASSIGNMENT. Job done.
