Possibly the silliest question ever posted at Avsim

Featured Replies

Hi,

So maybe this is just a celebration of the fact I've reached a plateau in my FSX knowledge where I pretty much feel like I have a good feel for what works, what doesn't, why problems crop up and how to solve them -- all of course with the caveat that FSX is at some level magic and pixie dust and will always leap out at you in unexpected ways.....

But, while I'm in my temporary field of deluded happiness, I have this small question: is there any way to control the default size a 3D model of an aircraft is when it shows up in the FSX Free Flight Start Screen?

It's only because I have just a couple of add-on aircraft, one of which shows up ridiculously tiny, another of which shows up as a close-up of The Hulk from the knees upward.  I'm hoping there's some small edit somewhere I can make to tweak those into normalcy.

Any clues?  Thanks!

The mouse wheel moves the camera in and out I think

Not even close, try again please.  :P

I believe you cannot control that.

EDIT: Actually, LeeL is correct, funny I never tried to do that.

You can fix that, but I'll have to go research how I did it.

Edit:  Found it!

I was able to fix a variety of problems with the A2A B377 Stratocruiser by changing the radius with RADitor.  Turns out the bounding boxes in the model were off and the calculated radius was way too big.  It fixed such diverse issues as the aircraft being too small in the preview animation and little to no engine sound on some external views.

Aha!  Thank you, Hook.

I know I can zoom on it with mouse wheel, just like with spacebar and mousewheel in the VC cockpit.  Just was wondering how to "save" a setting.  Will check out RADitor, thanks!

Steve, make sure you record the old setting or better yet, make a backup of the .mdl file, just in case an edit causes everything to go pear-shaped.  So far, I haven't seen any problems with the edit I made to the B377.

So now we must continue to wait for the most silliest question ever on AVSIM...    Glad a fix was found.

You can delete those files (or replace them by some music of your choice).

Or:

AmbientUIMusicVolume=-6.000000

You can also set this via the Sound section of the UI.

If you don't want the music go to Settings->Sound and at the bottom uncheck the box that says, "Play user interface music."  I turned mine off about the second day I had FSX.  You can also choose between several selections.  Or... go with Olli's suggestion above.

Somehow, I didn't mind the music in MS Flight... but unfortunately some of the beta version music was better.

You waited that long?!

It was only the second time I started FSX up. :)

My silly question would be, When is Level D releasing the 757?
