  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

this is absolutely stunning and mind blowing and i dont have words to describe this product even at its initial stages....

First repaint (User John514) Elapsed time...... About 35 seconds!

So who do you think is building a Military simulator tool using Outerra?  I don't know - just asking.

At any rate it would be stiff competition for LM IMO.

The lighting and shading on the aircraft look fantastic, almost photorealistic. Do you know if it's real-time reflections on the exterior?

So no, not at this time, but it can be done. (Unless I missed a post where they already switched over!!)

I understand there will be a kickstarter at some point, but a prototype of a working flight simulator will need to be accomplished first. More info can be found over at the Outerra forum. I have followed this project for some years now and it seems the biggest fan base in the community is from the flight sim genre. However, Outerra has been developed as a core engine for any required use, this is where the funding needs to come in so that a good simulator can be born.

Vector data will be usable as an overlay on the terrain to place rivers, roads, fields, parks, etc... it even has very smart ways to manage forest and rock distribution. This is what Brano (one of the primary developers) calls the artifical world (or in our words the man made world). Anteworld is a game that they are building to demonstrate the abilities of the engine.

Clouds, weather systems, and seasons are all considered for the future of this engine, clouds being the most likely candidate for the next big feature. I would not brown nose this as I do believe it has a lot of potential to enable a flight simulator to be developed as it hit most of the marks already that makes a really great visual, immersive, flight simulator. Hell, it even has Oculus Rift support.

Watch this space.

Cool. Are the environment reflections already in? I need to update then, as soon as I boot Windows. What FPS you get? I will also have a look at the DC3. That FSX conversion has been done in no time.

Nope, not yet. http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2364.0

As for FPS, look at the post a few above yours to my Grand Canyon picture. The FPS counter is on the upper left. I average between 230 & 280 FPS with dips as low as 130. Highest hit comes from AA settings.

By the way, that FSX conversion was done by an apparent amateur who is learning on the fly. I cant even imagine what a professional might do!
