March 2, 201412 yr Just installed and run, no fiddling required, absolutely stunning. It controls moving clouds, no wind shifts, no cloud popups, this is great! Downloaded, is networkbridge no more?
March 2, 201412 yr networkbridge is a separate download i7 4777k 4.6mhz, 32gddr3, GTX 760 4g sci ,Saitek x52,yoke and quadrant, 60 Led . SSD
March 2, 201412 yr I've got OpusFSX and was about to get that buttkicker thingy. Cloud popup and instant visibility changes when flying tubes is frustrating though, think I'll give that FS Global engine a shot.
March 2, 201412 yr Does FSGRW have any facility for downloading/saving global weather similar to Activesky ? The features page says: Historic weather (supporting static, dynamic or file-mode) ...but Opus makes similar claims, and the theme system isn't quite what I want. I can honestly say that is the one single feature that has kept me with AS over the years, though I am more than willing to give something else a try. Yes it does Brian. I certainly suggest giving it a go in trial mode because if you want a weather programme "that just works" I am quite certain that you will be pleasantly surprised and pleased with the outcome. It's Monday morning here and the first thing I will do when I get home is download and try it out in P3D because it certainly worked well in FSX.
March 2, 201412 yr Hi, I know this is a dumb question, where do I purchase/trial this please? Not dumb at all. Top of page ........... downloads http://www.fly2pilots.com/cms/Ui/Pages/Products/MainPage.aspx?id=253b8b5c-0a91-4935-8d01-b3c70aee6034 Oh, and check out the local weather effects http://www.fly2pilots.com/Cms/Ui/Pages/Products/MainPage.aspx?id=253b8b5c-0a91-4935-8d01-b3c70aee6034&pageid=11b577b3-e747-4114-b2cf-0dfac49c37a9
March 2, 201412 yr Took a couple of shots of the SF/BayArea: http://www.robainscough.com/images/05496e20861e8855bd4db1a877e188b4.jpg http://www.robainscough.com/images/ba520242180bdfb6bf35628f808de5a1.jpg It's interesting, it's not how it looks real world, but interesting. There seems to be an overcast or fog layer at 5000 feet to about 8000 feet ... hmmm I do like how they got the clouds around Mt.Diablo, that's pretty accurate.
March 2, 201412 yr I use Opus and like it allot. But I gave the FSGRW demo a go. I flew out of Madiera Portland LPMA. According to the weather report, it called for sunny with Scattered clouds. I downloaded the current weather into FSGRW and took it for a spin. I disabled Opus, then tried FSGRW...then re-enabled Opus in the same session to see how they would differ. From a cloud cover perspective there was allot of similarity. But, the cloud types differed where the FSGRW seemed to prefer the flat 2d type clouds, while Opus prefered the 3d fluffy ones. Not sure which is actually more accurate though, but I did this a couple of times and that seems to be the trend. One very interesting thing though....I decided to see what would happen with both of them enabled........and...bonkers! Why did I have to do, that??? Um? I'm not sure what's going on, but the two together packs a 3d punch, the cloud rendition is better than either seperately. I may have to purchase this thing just for that.... Maybe that was a fluke....still experimenting.
March 2, 201412 yr Author They have stated that the cloud rendition is based on what the wind would do. In other words, if you have strong wind and little moisture you will have flat stratus clouds which would look "2D" but it is accurate. Other engines use mostly CU clouds which are fluffly and give yiu a "fuller" view of the sky. But not accurate. I have to say it takes a while to get used to it, but flying south of Australia in certain known conditions it was spot on, also tried around Cape Town and Gibraltar, amazing. March 2, 201412 yr Hey Will, Not concerned about the cloud types, more concerned about what this "overcast" layer is about? Why is it blue? I'm not suggesting FSGRW issue, maybe this is an P3DV2.1 issue? http://www.robainscough.com/images/0399f36a86a83902e30ca3fdf065a97d.jpg The wind depiction was VERY good, spot on! Cheers, Rob.
March 2, 201412 yr Author Not sure Rob, I am using Rex4, haven't seen this issue. I was asking re the metar as what it reads here and what I can see out the door are totally different things. March 2, 201412 yr Just did the exact same flight using OpusFSX and these are the results: http://www.robainscough.com/images/24f7f6414e9e54812a7eeb50a69b114c.jpg http://www.robainscough.com/images/5d741eb8ec715d87d5559864fe57f827.jpg Doesn't seem to be REX 4 issue ... hmmm ... Interesting fact about the clouds. I wasn't aware of that and thanks for the info. Not sure Rob, I am using Rex4, haven't seen this issue. In one post you say it is spot on, in the next you say what it reads and what you see are totally different things. Monday morning brain slowdown for me possibly? Did you experience the wind shear and turbulence at Gibraltar? I did once in FSX and it was a lot of fun. From their website about local conditions:- Gibraltar - Experience strong turbulence in the final approach areas when approaching runway 09 and 27 with wind directions from south-east to south-west. Note, that there might be wind shear just before touchdown, especially on runway 09. And for an earlier poster (rparson99) about Madeira:- Madeira - You will notice medium to strong turbulence as you get closer to the mountains when approaching both runway 05 and 23, especially with wind directions from north-west and north-east. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W08vvkI1caA
