March 22, 201412 yr Just thought I'd post to let you guys know about my experience today. A good friend of mine is a first officer for Ryanair who's been flying with them for about 18 months, building hours before a move to another airline. He flies the 737ng out of Dublin airport and today he had a chance to have a go on X-Plane at my place. The 777 was a little bit different from the 737 for him (he was impressed by the amount of automation in the 777 and let me know that in the real world "set everything to automatic and leave it alone" is a valid real world procedure!) but was easily able to get the aircraft up and running. He was also easily able to get the FMC programmed (including route from memory which worked, albeit he commented on the out of date SID which is my fault and not the sims) and was able to program it for a tonne of functions I've never seen, but that's more because I haven't had time to learn the FMC yet. Anyway, after getting airborne he was able to visually navigate the aircraft away following the ground scenery as a reference, and commented on the extremely accurate position of land just off the coast of Ireland which included a particular small Island which Ryanair pilots know to keep to the left of the aircraft on approach to Dublin. He also commented on how nicely the 777 responded and was very impressed with how realistic feeling the aircraft was in the sim; particularly as regards the autopilot system, approach speeds, climb out etc. He has previously used the PMDG NGX (he's not actually a sim user but used the NGX to practice cockpit flows during his exams, following the advice of others) and said the feel of the 777 in X-Plane felt far, far more similar to the handling of a real world Boeing. The ease with which he was able to use the aircraft really emphasised just how detailed it is. I asked him if there was anything he considered to be lacking and he said the entire aircraft and fmc responded exactly as he'd expect it to in the real world. Anyway, just thought I'd share the extremely approving comments of a real world Boeing pilot on the quality of XP10 and the 777 addon.
March 22, 201412 yr X plane has a much better feel and that has hooked me. I was split between 777 and 757, went w/ 757 for now as it was a newer model, wonderful fly. The 777 will come soon.
March 22, 201412 yr Just got finished with a 90 minute flight between EGLL and LFPG with him instructing me - amazingly cool to get a real airline pilot coaching you and learned a huge number of things. At the end of the flight on final approach he actually said he was amazed at how comprehensive, realistic and "cool" the sim was. His girlfriend was less than happy and said "you do this all week for real then spend Saturday night doing it on a computer?", then proceeded to team up with my girlfriend and sulk! Haha, what an awesome evening!
March 22, 201412 yr There's a guy over on the .org who has been given permission to upgrade/refresh the interior textures and it's looking good so far.
March 23, 201412 yr When the VC gets updated, I will purchase the 777. I wish Flight Factor would update it to look as good as the 757. It's simply amazing and looks so beautiful. The 777 is great, but needs brought up to 757 standard. Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)
March 23, 201412 yr I was really sceptical about this 777 mainly because of it's graphics, this new VC looks great at really makes me consider purchasing this plane when the new VC is released. BTW does this include a weather radar and a terrain radar?

March 24, 201412 yr I thought the existing VC was pretty good. An update would be nice, but that shouldn't hold you back from getting it. It's an awesome addon!!!. I tend to spend more time in the business class passenger cabin anyway. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist
