ERJ or ATR

Featured Replies

I know they are two very different birds. But for those who own both (Feelthere & F1), which one do you fly more often and have more fun with? and why if I may?Inputs appreciated!Jason Zhang

I own both, but I tend to side more with the ATR, not 100% sure why though, but I do have a passion for props.I also find the ERJ quite hard on FPS though compared to the ATR, if I was made to choose between them, I would have to go for the ATR.That said, they are both very good addons.Dan.

Could be a tough question to answer - it's kind of like comparing apples to oranges; both are good, but they are not much alike. The same can be said of turboprop and jet fans. Personally, I prefer the ATR (also, I don't own the Feelthere ERJ) - but I also have a bias towards turboprops. I have yet to learn more about the FMS (which, I believe, is common to both models), but the experience has overall been very impressive. I enjoy flying Dreamwings' ERJ once in a while as well, and coupled with Bill Grabowski's panel, it's an excellent freeware package. If you're a big fan of both props and jets, perhaps you should try both packages ;)George

Thank you for the replies, guys. I am just thinking of adding yet one more addon to my fleet. I fly and like both jets and turbo-props. I really enjoy PSS dash8. So I believe I'll like the ATR as well. Jason Zhang

Flying the Flight 1 ATR is the most fun I have had flying flight sims since the first version of FS was released. It has a superb flight model, great looking graphics and enough complexity in systems modeling to keep you from ever getting bored. For instance, there is an ice accumulation detector which is outside the pilots side window. When this starts building up ice , which you can actually see by looking out the window, an icing alarm comes on so you can turn on the different de-icing systems. Questions about this Aircraft on the ATR Forum, very often are answered by real ATR airline pilots that fly this plane in FS on their days off. One pilot has about 12 years on the real ATR. That's about the best recommendation one could get for a FS aircraft, in my opinion. http://atr.flight1.net/forums/

I don't own the F1 ATR but own Feelthere ERJ. All I can say is that the ERJ is the only plane I have been flying since I purchased it.I am a VC only simmer, and love the fact that I can have different ND settings for the pilots. I find the systems modeling decent (although I would like to see operating fire switches ), it is not as advanced as the PMDG NG but still a great product. Support is great. I dont have any complaints regarding FPS, however I have a high end system. I am planning on getting the F1 ATR eventually.Take carejohn

Hello All,Just my personal opinion, the ATR is by far the better of the two aircraft for FS, it just wins hands down for me. I love turbo props in FS and the ATR is modeled really nice.Best,Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"

Just out of curiosity, how is the guage refresh update in the VC of the ATR?

Adjustable depending on your system, not only for refresh, but also in textures. Quite a lot of choice for your system capability.

Gotta say that since I bought the ATR I haven't flown anything else. It is, without challenge, the BEST addon aircraft I have ever purchased!

I own both. A lot of the systems are actually similar. For example, both planes use takeoff, climb, and and cruise power settings ("quasi" auto-throttle) and both implement autopilot interfaces on the panel to the FMC in a similar manner. If you're already familiar with the ATR, you'll probably get up to speed on the ERJ quickly, at least I did.I would recommend starting out with the ATR.

Does this not mean that the ERJ Jet is likely to be more like the real thing than the turboprop ATR?Another thing I have been wondering about. I understand that a turboprop engine is basically a jet engine. Why then not do a jetplane if you are using jetengines? Why put propellers on the jet engine?

John, how is the quality on the VC for the ERJ? I read someone's post that it was pretty funky. Noel

The props are more efficient at lower altitudes, and more economical to fly on the shorter hops that use these lower altitudes, I believe.

The VC is definitely among the weakest parts of the ERJ along with the manuals. Othervise it is a very enjoyable sim with very nice cockpit displays and a very good "feel" to it.The ATR is in a whole different league, though, and is probably the best small airliner ever in fs.-
