May 24, 201412 yr With the 50% off sales, I'm tempted to grab something, but I'm reading that some are not that good.. Particularly tempted by the b-24!
May 24, 201412 yr The native FSX models are supposed to be better than the FS9 portovers (that's hearsay). I tried the Helix (KA 27) helicopter and that seems like one of my not-so-good decisions. I do like the C-17/Globemaster III: It's strictly SDK with little system depth, but it's immersive, IMO, has solid graphics and an unusual flight model (fun to practice landings in it). What happened to AVSIM
May 24, 201412 yr I have several Virtavia aircraft. The T-34C Turbo Mentor is one of the best simulations out there and flies by the book. The Yak-52 is big fun to fly but the systems are not that realistic. Their Sea King helo is a great beginner's product. Just got the F-105 Thud from this sale...with mods from Sim-Outhouse, it is a decent sim but the VC is a bit dated. May 24, 201412 yr I'm eyeing up the F-111 and B-45. However I should be keeping my powder dry for an upcoming GA plane with a plank wing... Must resist, even though they're on speckle. Mike Dryden
May 24, 201412 yr I have the F-111, it is a nicely modeled aircraft. I cant say much about FDE or systems accuracy. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.
May 25, 201412 yr The native FSX models are supposed to be better than the FS9 portovers (that's hearsay). I had a very large number of Virtavia (formerly Alphasim) aircraft in FS9 and I can confirm that this statement is largely true to the point where I have not installed most of them to FSX. However although some of the later FS9 Virtavia / Alphasim aircraft (eg. C-17 Globemaster, B-24, He111, Lockheed Hudson, V-22 Osprey) are pretty good in FSX and certainly worth considering at the reduced price. I do like the C-17/Globemaster III: It's strictly SDK with little system depth, but it's immersive, IMO, has solid graphics and an unusual flight model (fun to practice landings in it). It should be noted however that none of the Virtavia aircraft could be considered to be deep in terms of systems modelling, so if you are a systems fanatic then you probably should look elsewhere, Nevertheless I would agree that the C-17 in particular is a fun and very immersive aircraft to fly, especially if you challenge yourself to take it in and out of short strips. Of the native FSX models, I recently purchased the B-29 and Grumman HU-16 Albatross and have enjoyed flying them, but then I am a fan of old props! Do not however expect a product of PMDG, Majestic or Quality Wings standard as Virtavia have not quite reached that level as yet, but if you are looking for aircraft which are a bit different but yet flyable and entertaining, then they have plenty on offer. May 25, 201412 yr The F1 Islander was by Virtavia, wasn't it? I know it's not included, but it could be used as a yardstick. Mike Dryden
May 25, 201412 yr The F1 Islander was by Virtavia, wasn't it? I know it's not included, but it could be used as a yardstick.Yes, but I think it's solely marketed as an F1 product, and might not apply to those discounts OP was talking about. However, the Islander is a great little plane.

I've never flown the FS version of the yak 52, but I fly a real one pretty often and I can say that system wise it pretty simple everything gear, flaps, brakes, ever the starter works off air which is interesting but its a real pita when the system develops a leak not only are all of these system affected you also have to try to track down a leak leaves no trail with a bottle of soapy water while hanging upside down inside one of the cockpits haha ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
May 25, 201412 yr With the 50% off sales, I'm tempted to grab something, but I'm reading that some are not that good.. Particularly tempted by the b-24! If you love the Liberator, avoid the Virtavia one. The external model is dreadful. On the other hand, their recently released B-29 is very enjoyable, and more than a bargain at the price. Their best VC ever, too. Its got its errors, but all in all, well worth having. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
May 25, 201412 yr system wise it pretty simple everything gear, flaps, brakes, ever the starter works off air It seems like a great basic airplane! Regards the Virtavia model, the lack of air systems is what I was talking about. There is a new Yak-50 by another company that models the systems better from what I understand. May 25, 201412 yr Author Watched a few YouTube videos, and wasn't really impressed.. I may go for an airport at PC Aviator's sale instead.. lol. or I might just behave!
May 25, 201412 yr (...) I may go for an airport at PC Aviator's sale instead.(...) I went for Aerosoft's Antarctica ... and now I'm flying the Virtavia C17A into and out of those ice runways!!! What happened to AVSIM
May 25, 201412 yr Author I heard Aerosoft is tough on frames is that true? or are they comparable to FlyTampa/FSDreamteam? I have Logan and JFK.. But I also have Orbx PNW, so could be tempted to buy Aerosoft LA , if it wouldn't bring my PC to it's knees!

But I also have Orbx PNW, so could be tempted to buy Aerosoft LA , if it wouldn't bring my PC to it's knees! I presume you mean Los Angeles from the Aerosoft US Cities series as Aerosoft do not produce a specific KLAX airport addon? I use Aerosoft LA, Orbx Global and FSDT KLAX and this combination certainly does not bring my PC to it's knees in the LA area, although I think FSDT KLAX puts more strain on the system than Aerosoft LA. I you are still keen to grab something from Virtavia while the sale is still on I would recommend the C-17 as one of their best, as others have noted in posts above and if you wanted a WW2 veteran, I would suggest the B-29 as being a little better than the B-24, although in my opinion neither are bad. Today I have just added the F-111, which was a type I have not had in FS9 or FSX and that is quite nicely modeled and looks like it is going to give me a few good hours of fast flying! I personally think most of these Virtavia products are great value at present but if you go for them, do so with the knowledge that they are not strong in terms of systems immersion. Bill
