Active Sky Next/Rex 4 and P3Dv2.2

Featured Replies

Just installed the Active Sky trial to use with my REX 4 and P3D2.2 and got some newbie questions (note I have never used any kind of weather package before)

1)How can I tell if its working (I am not seeing any real differences from by stock set up) ?although ASN seems to indicate P3D is connected

2)When I set this up within REX options I point by weather engine to the ASN.exe is this correct? - in game I select weather themes active sky - is this correct? and within ASN live weather is enabled - do I need to do anything else to get this running?

3)I do not use flight plans - but I guess ASN should work at any airport I choose to start from?

Anyone have thoughts on the REX weather product in comparison to Active Sky Next?

No need to set any options in REX - just be sure to DISABLE the REX engine. Install whatever REX textures you want and close it. No need to run it again UNLESS you want to change textures.

ASN ignores any setting within the sim itself.

Set ASN to live weather - if you see "connected" message - it is running.

To see what is going on - go to TOOLS - DEBUG Window - you can watch ASN as it injects the weather.

TurbineSeaplane - IMHO there is NO comparison but that's why we have a free trial. You will see the difference - just be sure you do not have TWO weather engines running simultaneously.

Rex 4  in which the op has  hasn't  got  a weather  engine its only  a texture addon  on, and yes you are correct  just need to install  the textures you want  and  just leave it  till you want  to change the textures  again.

I used Rex Overdrive with the weather injector when I had FSX.  I now have REX 4 with ASN on P3D... and I can definitevly state ASN is superb, and much more capable than the REX engine was.  Being slightly interested in weather I really appreciate all of the features of ASN... you can tweak literally everything, and the placement of storm systems is spot on.  IMO Rex4+ ASN is a perfect combo.

I hate REX4, money wasted.  It has issues when going through the clouds on most computers with BLUE COLOR just like in the latest FROOGLE video review on P3Dv2.  I went back to default clouds and it's great.  The REX4 cloud shapes are horrible, REXE had better clouds.

Really?  That has not been my experience at all, but sounds like multiple people are having issues with it.  I'll need to check regarding the blue next time I am flying through clouds.  I personally find the cloubs to be quite impressive.

Like Baylorguy I'm not experiencing that problem either.

Just finished this flight from KSAT to KIAH.  What you are seeing is P3D 2.2 with ASN and REX4.  How can you not like this?  The severe weather in central Texas this evening was modeled perfectly by ASN, and REX4 provided the textures.

great pic you have there showing off rex4

To  StubbinMy toe who disagreed with my post on #4  what part was wrong with it  since it correct in all accounts.

I use Rex 4 with the OPUS weather engine in P3D v2.2 and the results are quite superb

A question ....

Why do people use both ASN and Rex 4 together?

Surely that's a waste of money and could cause conflicts or is it just because Rex 4 doesn't have a weather engine?

REX4 Texture Direct has only textures as the name already mentions. Don't get confused with REX OD.

Rex4 is for textures nothing else, you can use it to look up the weather at your airport your flying from and it will surggest a cloud set for you to use. You can then note the cloud set and only load that from the theme your using.

It's impossible for Rex4 to conflict with ASN. It's for textures only.

ASN is a weather engine.

Waste of money? .....really!

So ASN doesn't have textures??

I thought it did ....

As I say I use Rex 4 for the cloud textures and OPUS Weather software to drive them
