May 29, 201412 yr That will depend on the resolution you currently operate at and what you plan to operate at in the near future and how long you plan to hold onto your 780. For 1920 x 1080 3GB should be fine (it may also be fine for 2560 x 1600 - I haven't gone over 3GB usage with v2.2). The SLi/Crossfire wait maybe a long one pending nVidia/AMD's developer commitment and it maybe several rounds of communication, adjustments, more communication, etc. etc. The 780Ti 3GB is a good choice if you don't plan to go to 4K resolution and availability of the 780Ti 3GB in 6 months from now is assured and costs will most likely go down. Cheers, Rob. I'm running 2560x1440. No issues here. David Graham Google, Network+, Cisco CSE, Cisco Unity Support Specialist, A+, CCNA
May 29, 201412 yr Exactly why it works so well I don't really know ... threading is an incredibly complex due to the number of factors involved including hardware CPU, Chipset, RAM speed, GPU thread optimizations, OS implementation, etc. etc. Because of the complexity involved it is probably why results/solutions vary so much from PC to PC. That pretty much says it all. In Windows 7, core scheduling is best left to the OS and even more so in Win 8. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't attempt to experiment with the P3d AM, but don't expect miracles. One thing that does make sense is using Process Explorer (or equivalent) to block other apps (such as either a weather injector or Track IR) from using the cores that P3d is assigned to and vice versa. This all can get pretty complicated, but if you assign the affinity mask with a Windows shortcut containing the Start command, it is fairly easy to keep track of what one is doing. This whole P3d 2.x affinity mask "tweaking" ( or maybe twerking is more appropriate in this context) ironically got started because LM originally blocked the app from using core 0 by default. LM subsequently posted on their forum that there is no reason to do so in Win 7 or Win 8.
May 29, 201412 yr Titan Z I see finally today that the Titan Z in stock all over. Man is that pricey!
May 29, 201412 yr EVGA Titan Z for $3339.99...at NCIX. :shok: I'm gonna need to sell a kidney, to fund a new pc. Cheers, Jazz.
May 29, 201412 yr EVGA Titan Z for $3339.99...at NCIX. :shok: I'm gonna need to sell a kidney, to fund a new pc. Cheers, Jazz. micro center has it for $2999.. 1 in stock. http://www.microcenter.com/product/433513/12G-P4-3990-KR_NVIDIA_GeForce_GTX_TitanZ_12GB_GDDR5_PCIe30x16_Video_Card
May 30, 201412 yr I see finally today that the Titan Z in stock all over. Oh released, finally ... and there it is at NewEgg (and in stock) ... well, after reading more about the Z, I think it'll be a pass for me: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/unlocked/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-z-review-and-4k-benchmarks-idnum280/ - no HDMI 2.0 spec, performs worse than two Titan Blacks, performs worse than AMD R9 295X2 (on some tests). Nope, going to stick with my two Titan GTXs for now (one sitting idle doing nothing) and wait and see what happens with P3D SLi/Crossfire support. Cheers, Rob.
May 30, 201412 yr I was hoping to keep my kidney for a new cpu/mobo upgrade. But at least it comes with a 'free' limited edition mousepad and a t-shirt! j/k. 3 grand is too rich for my blood. I'll wait for the 8xx series and 20nm gpu's. By then Intel will have probably launched their next gen 8 core cpu's. Cheers, Jazz.
May 30, 201412 yr Yeah, the titan z is a horrible value for the performance you get (gaming at least).
May 30, 201412 yr I've just come up with a slightly modified set of settings as per Beau's suggestion (found that gem of info over on LM's forum) AffinityMask = 4081 seems to be the way to go for my setup (i7 3960X) ... Try 4094 Rob. Fabulous results here... May 30, 201412 yr I would wait for sli and add another Titan - money wise best bet just have to wait for reviews to see if it really makes a huge difference as 2 Titans is not cheap - more to come on that but hope P3D can work some magic to do this option - thanks for all the great info Rob Rich Sennett

The doubts come from seeing compelling evidence in the places where you would want SLI to bail you out, you'll frequently see frames CPU limited at whatever--18, 20, 24 etc--while your Titan is sitting there only at 40-65% GPU utilization (it's a valid metric more or less using GPU-z, and I say this because everything in the GPU-z sensor corroborates this metric: low temps, low fan speeds, etc). I cannot see how adding a 2nd GPU will affect this meaningfully. Where it will help some of course is where sliders are fully maxed out in the countryside (where the sim is much less prone to CPU boundedness), for example highest quality shadowing, and other settings that stress the GPU more directly. I hope this guess is wrong because I'd love to increase 'performance' by 30+% w/ an add'l Titan, but alas again it's not going to hit the areas that matter to me, which IMO will only become accentuated when complex planes like PMDG stuff come on board if they do, or perhaps even the AXE. May 30, 201412 yr Noel Axe runs really nice on my rig - hope your not right about SLI because that would be so nice to have Rich Sennett
May 30, 201412 yr I cannot see how adding a 2nd GPU will affect this meaningfully. Well even if LM can only get SLI to help out on the AA modes ... like SGSS AA that would do wonders. As it stands now SGSS AA can take as much as a 50%-60% or more performance hit at 2560 x 1600 (even worse with many cloud layers). But v2.3 appears to be focused on further performance improvements and bug fixes (I know there are ways to make the clouds perform much better) ... so we'll just have to wait and see ... but the good news is we can say "wait and see" - don't know about you ladies/gents, but I like those words. Try 4094 Rob. Fabulous results here... I think I did try that Noel, and it was good, but when I started recording with FRAPS I started to get stutters and/or blurries. My AM settings experiments are more about getting FRAPS and TrackIR5 to work in harmony with P3D. So far 4081 seems to be the ticket to ride with my add-on set. another Titan - money wise best bet just have to wait for reviews to see if it really makes a huge difference as 2 Titans is not cheap Agree, but as of P3D v2.2 I honestly think the 780Ti and/or two 780Ti is the best performance/price ratio unless one plans to run at some extreme resolutions ... I haven't gone above 2.2GB VRAM @ 2560 x 1600. Cheers, Rob.
