July 20, 201411 yr Why is FSX so frustrating? Late last night it was running perfectly. I was in the midst of a long OMDB-EGCC flight using the newly-bought -300ER. The decided to save the flight. Went back to it at the saved flight, and again, re-saved. Shut down PC. Come today, went to start FSX as usual. and it immediately shuts down within seconds without even getting to any screen. And all I have done in between is repair my EventVwr that was not working and thus I could not use Microsoft Office diagnostics. So, what gives with FSX? Why such odd behaviour? Any clues/help appreciated. Rick Almeida
July 20, 201411 yr Administrators Immediate shutdown? Are you getting the Slpash-screen to start with and not getting past that? July 20, 201411 yr Author Hi charliearon Tried to re-build fsx.cfg, but still not getting to the splash screen, then 15 secs later, it shuts down. Forgot to add, after re-starting with that saved flight and again saving, and shutting down the sim, I updated the GSX Addon Manager, if that is any clue. Rick Almeida
July 20, 201411 yr Author Further on. I've tried to carry out a Repair of FSX several times, and I get as far scenery files re-building,etc and then a CTD with simprop.dll error as Faulting Module. Is it any wonder, I ask myself, that so many simmers are migrating to Prepar3D. That's it. Time's up to ditch FSX. Have again tried repair of FSX and Acceleration which cured that simprop.dll shutting down the sim, but no further after the splash screen. I have better things to do with my time than trying to sort this nonsense. I reckon I will wait until I build my new rig before I even come anywhere near this sim again, which could be weeks or months away. Rick Almeida
July 20, 201411 yr For what it's worth, in eight years I've never had a problem with FSX that I didn't cause myself. Moving to P3D isn't all that much of a help as it's just the basic FSX with marginal improvements (yes, I've tried P3Dv2). I don't know what you did but, bite the bullet, reinstall and enjoy.... July 20, 201411 yr Well, a simpler solution would be not to save and load any flight in which a complex aircraft is involved. Either use time acceleration or plan your spare time around a flight or a flight around available spare time. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

Other than missing pmdg most of your problems will be gone - why put yourself thru it - I felt the same way and not looking back not to mention crystal clear textures which fsx never could achieve - when pmdg jumps on board it will all be good - just do it Rich Sennett

July 21, 201411 yr Grass isn't always greener.... I've been having CTD with P3D too - probably caused by my system but just goes to show switching sims won't always make problems go away. July 21, 201411 yr Uninstall and re-install your FSDT Addon Manager. Sometimes that can create grief. Or find your last system restore point and give that a go. Worked for me a while back when the add-on manager went a bit loopy. There is no point going to P3D as you mentioned you've just shelled out some hard earned for the PMDG 300ER. Sometimes our FSX has a mind of it's own, just as P3D does. Hirdy
July 21, 201411 yr And all I have done in between is repair my EventVwr that was not working and thus I could not use Microsoft Office diagnostics. Sounds to me like you have other issues with your machine, Event Viewer not working? Office Diagnostics? Those are not things that simply stop working unless your system is hosed. Also, re-install FSX with no addons, see if it works. DO NOT TWEAK IT! Too many people read these silly guides and watch Youtube, then install tweaks without knowing exactly what they do. Anyway, get a clean copy running, then start adding the addons back in. BTW, I am not accusing you of anything, but if you are running torrented copies of addons, that might also be your problem.
July 21, 201411 yr Author @StubbinMyToe Let me clarify a few points. For starters, I have never ever used any torrented software. I've been using MSFS since FS95,and have always bought the discs until the era when download speeds became fast enough to offer the option of either hard copy discs or direct download. I bear in mind what it costs to buy software against the amount of energy and time involved in writing up software, so opt to buy as it is a small price to pay compared to a lot of other mass-produced items in this world we pay over the odds for, e.g. cheap airfares and hiked-up booking fees, et al. That clarified, my FSX has been running smoothly without any major hiccups including running SP1 and the -300ER. The MSO2007 was also running okay until I did a IObit uninstall and it messed up part of the MSO2007. I could still use MSO2007 in a fashion, so decided to carry out the MSO Diagnostics, which is when I discovered the EventVwr was not functioning. Fixed that. So, why would that in any way all of a sudden stop FSX which had been running perfectly with the -300ER in flight the night before? Nevertheless, thanks for your advice. I reckon I will take a long break from FSX until I build my new rig as my current specs are rather out-dated, so that I don't have to go through all the activations palaver all over again. Now that the long-awaited -300ER has been released and there is nothing worth getting worked up about in FSX, so I can drop out for a long spell. Like I have stated, I have better things to do with my time than putting up with the frustrations of FSX. Rick Almeida
July 21, 201411 yr I know where you are coming from.... I started getting the MSVCR80.DLL error last night. I have not had problems with my install for a long while and then a flight with the newly purchased and installed PMDG 777-300 and half way through it crashed. Like times before, you have to be a bulldog with FSX.... from the research I have done, it appears to be a issue for me with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package... but have yet to do some testing and have waited posting anything until I do. But like you said, it can take some wind out of your sails. LW
