August 1, 201411 yr Hi ppl. I'm really tired of FSX and it's hysterical tendency to CTD. History: I'm a quite recent FSX user. I bought a new rig and since I was really attracted by FSX new features such as the NGX, vPilot, etc, I switched from FS9, that I had been using for about 7 years. FS9 had been working quite well, I once let it running for 50hrs, with more than 5 flights made with no issues at all. Since I'm using FSX I had lots of CTDs, the most common ones are BEX Stackhash and unknow. I had some d3d9.dll ctds but that was because of ENB series. I purchased the Airbus X from Aerosoft + FS2Crew, great aircraft btw. Although I had some error they were very random and sporadic. I then purchased the NGX + FS2Crew, a completely different story. CTD's started to happen, specially BEX CTDs. My Windows installation was quite "dirty" so I decided to reinstall everything, so I could set Windows 7 x64 Professional on a SSD. I'm currently running a quite fresh Windows. I'm trying to stay minimalistic, installing only the thinks that I would really need. -The Problem: Addons installed: -NGX -FS2Crew -LatinVFR sceneries with AES. -FsGlobal with only the active area where I'm currently flying (CSA). -ORBX FTX Global and Vector. -Fs Global Real WX. -vPilot -FsRealTime -GroundServicesX -Registered FSUIPC -EzDok 1.15 -Error report: Version=1 EventType=BEX EventTime=130513274472509230 ReportType=2 Consent=1 UploadTime=130513275108285594 ReportIdentifier=f10d287c-1914-11e4-8522-bc5ff4bf6dcb IntegratorReportIdentifier=f10d287b-1914-11e4-8522-bc5ff4bf6dcb WOW64=1 Response.type=4 Sig[0].Name=Application Name Sig[0].Value=fsx.exe Sig[1].Name=Application Version Sig[1].Value=10.0.61472.0 Sig[2].Name=Application Timestamp Sig[2].Value=475e17d3 Sig[3].Name=Fault Module Name Sig[3].Value=StackHash_27eb Sig[4].Name=Fault Module Version Sig[4].Value=0.0.0.0 Sig[5].Name=Fault Module Timestamp Sig[5].Value=00000000 Sig[6].Name=Exception Offset Sig[6].Value=7530cb49 Sig[7].Name=Exception Code Sig[7].Value=c0000005 Sig[8].Name=Exception Data Sig[8].Value=00000008 DynamicSig[1].Name=OS Version DynamicSig[1].Value=6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 DynamicSig[2].Name=Locale ID DynamicSig[2].Value=11274 DynamicSig[22].Name=Additional Information 1 DynamicSig[22].Value=27eb DynamicSig[23].Name=Additional Information 2 DynamicSig[23].Value=27eb358fe674a6f15dafe56d42bb9bf3 DynamicSig[24].Name=Additional Information 3 DynamicSig[24].Value=2f06 DynamicSig[25].Name=Additional Information 4 DynamicSig[25].Value=2f06c18113e6d7c00e6b91fa1fde84b6 UI[2]=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe UI[3]=Microsoft Flight Simulator® has stopped working UI[4]=Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. I recall that some users on AVSIM reported the same issue. VAS used when crash by FSX: 2.1GB, which is quite normal, I have some peaks of 2.4GB but not more. Number of appearances: Error happened 3 times, all of them on different situations: a). NGX + FS2Crew at a TropicalSim airport, when entering the runway, CTD. B). Same as described above, but this time when doing the takeoff roll, at 100kts. c). Same as above, but in LatinVFR SBGR, when I was doing the Before taxi checklist. d). Same as above, this time on cruise, FL360 outbout SBGR. I sometimes get a lucky strike of 3 or 4 flights without issues. I have some random stuttering, with 20 or 30FPS, FSX stops like 2 or 3 seconds, and then resumes, NGX autopilot usually gets a little crazy after the event. My specs: -Intel I5 4670k no OC -8GB DDR3 OCZ Gold 1333mhz no OC (these 4 modules are quite old, but there's nothing to suggest that they are faulty). -AsRock Z87-Extreme6 motherboard, I installed only the necessary drivers and services. -Radeon HD6870 1GB GDDR5: FSX never crosses the 70% GPU usage line, I'm running with AA Supersampling x2. VRAM never crosses the 700MB line. -Saitek X52 Pro with drivers but MFD radiostack is disabled. -Samsung SSD pro 840. -Seasonic 850w. FSX.cfg: Everything maxed out, except: -No AI traffic just cars 18% -Cloud draw distance below 100km -No lens glare. Custom settings: -HIGHMEMFIX=1 under graphics section -Cloud_Coverage_density=12 (I'm returning this back to 8). -MAX_TEXTURE_LOAD=2048 (returning this to 1024). Any clues of what might be happening here?. It's very difficult to recreate the error, sometimes it happens sometimes FSX behaves properly. Gonzalo Ramazco - SWD1570, STH1476, SKA0397.
August 1, 201411 yr Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 is out of date (see AVSIM CTD Guide for links). Your version is the original version. An SP1 was released with FSX SP2/Acceleration. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 is out of date too. That's strange as programs you have installed usually install the updated version. In any case, you should update as per above for the 2005 version. Make sure you have Microsoft.net versions 2.0 to the latest installed. See AVSIM CTD Guide for finding what versions you have installed and using the included tool to make sure they are up-to-date. If you had My Traffic X installed I could tell you that that would be the highest probability causing the CTD's. MTX V5.4c has caused CTD's for many because of the schedules. I have never enabled a schedule and have no problems but I have gone back to 5.4b. More info in this forum and in the developer's forum. In the AVSIM CTD Guide, page 9, it discusses this problem with ntdll.dll crashes but usually StackHash and NTDLL.dll crashes alternate. It applies to StackHash crashes too. Page 7 of the AVSIM CTD Guide provides guidance for probable causes of BEX/StackHash CTD's. The AVSIM CTD Guide is located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots. August 2, 201411 yr Can't be MTX as you have AI traffic 0 % No OC Hmm hard one! I finally got rid of stackhash by reducing my OC and also patched up MTX I looked more into it because i knew there was something about that crash type ! Ok answer these questions - Do you load up the 737 ngx during flight - More than a few times ? Are you loading up the pre saved tutorial flights during flight ? Vernon Howells
August 6, 201411 yr Author No presaved, I load the NGX on default config, then I was loading the cold & dark state, but I made my own panel state to speed up the preflight process, anyway the CTD happens with both panel states. UPDATE: After setting AffinityMask=14, leaving cloud and texture res to default, and UsePools=0 fps improved a lot and I've made 8 flights in a row with no issues at all. But on my last flight CTD again, this time BEX doesn't show but Stackhash_27eb again. I noticed that FSX was not running as admin, so I created a new shortcut and ran fsx.exe as admin, its a long shot but it's worth a try. The main problem here is that is very difficult to recreate the error's environment, it's totally random and spontaneous, it just pops-up on every situation (but always NGX and FS2Crew is present). I'm restarting the flight that caused CTD now, I was really getting confident, It's really frustrating when after a 3hr flight you are approaching the T/D and then bam, ctd. August 6, 201411 yr Beside above, my advice is to check that you have UAC disabled(metod 2 is ok) http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/ then download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/adxsx0mxb6wztil/UIAutomationCore.rar , unrar this and just put it to your main FSX folder, in your case this is : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X BTW, next time you install FSX, install it on separate drive or partition, not on the same partition with windows Zeljko Budovic
August 6, 201411 yr Doesn't have to be presaved. It can be as going into menu and selecting aircraft - 737 ngx I'm CTD free now after 3 months, i had every crash going just about haha. Vernon Howells
August 6, 201411 yr p.s. Why you don't use updated(the latest) EZDOK? http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-v117-available-for-download_topic37361.html Zeljko Budovic
August 6, 201411 yr Author Because middle mouse panning doesn't work for me on 1.17, so I rolled back to 1.15 I don't know if UIAutomationCore.dll solution is the one for me, I'm not having any menu issues, and I read that it could lead to other incompatibilities. If after updating C++ and/or analyzing the error with process explorer I don't found any other issues I will check your solution. UAC was already disabled. Beside above, my advice is to check that you have UAC disabled(metod 2 is ok) http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/ then download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/adxsx0mxb6wztil/UIAutomationCore.rar , unrar this and just put it to your main FSX folder, in your case this is : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X BTW, next time you install FSX, install it on separate drive or partition, not on the same partition with windows UPDATE: New CTD, this thing is driving me nuts. Yesterday I made 3 flights perfectly and now 2 CTD's on the same flight, in different situations. This one was during climb, 1000ft to go, the F/O audio... thousand to go.... and the one before was during descend procedure (before descend checklist), looks like the last two CTD's were when FS2Crew was taking action. I will make a dump using process explorer so I can check what calls have been made before the CTD, and I will update all my installed Visual C++ libraries. I'm using RadeonPro too, ATI Catalyst is disabled, CTD happened before and after disabling Catalyst so I would discard it. I will try to swap the RAM modules too, so I can discard any random memory error. I'm CTD free now after 3 months, i had every crash going just about haha. I was a CTD free guy with FS9 too, stupid FSX and stupid Windows 7. Doesn't have to be presaved. It can be as going into menu and selecting aircraft - 737 ngxI'm CTD free now after 3 months, i had every crash going just about haha. So your suggestion is loading the NGX after starting the flight with the default Cessna for example?. I'm using the default Friday Harbor flight, then from the menu I load the NGX, and then I select airport. When the flight finishes loading I connect the FS Real Time, connect FSGRW, and then load the NGX panel state. After the panel state I start vPilot and finally FS2Crew engine. August 6, 201411 yr You shouldn't disable DEP. So your stackhash crashes happen during flight not loading up the 737 ngx during flight? I load up the NGX from start but always have the default trike and friday night harbor set Vernon Howells
August 7, 201411 yr Author It always happens on flight, and it behaves the same way, first random stackhash, then I stop fsx, all the other 3rd party soft and I restart. When I start a new flight (usually the same) then I get another stackhash. Since that moment it could be days until the next one comes, it's like it's made on purpose, maybe it's just a coincidence that two times happened two times in a row. pic: PS; there are many post claiming that disabling DEP solves BEX errors. August 7, 201411 yr Your Microsoft Visuals C++ 2005 and 2008 are still out of date. On Page 5 of the AVSIM CTD Guide are some probably causes for BEX/StackHash crashes. You can also run process monitor and see what was running when your crash(es) occurred:Setting up the Process Monitor for FSX – Another investigative tool used to pin down a situation where FSX/P3D freezes, crashes, or stutters/pauses during a flight is to run a utility called Process Monitor - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645. During your flight, this utility monitors activity such as calling textures, AI aircraft schedules, ATC, weather updates, and scenery loading. When FSX/P3D stutters or FPS drop dramatically you simply write down the time it occurred. This is important as thousands of entries are made every minute, every second. Continue doing this throughout the flight. Of course, if it freezes, you will know what was going on before the sim froze. This utility will not show you a definitive cause of your issue but it will show you what add-ons were being loaded about when you received the stutter, the long pause(s), and the freeze and you can further investigate by disabling that scenery, that aircraft, or whatever might have caused the event. One member used this utility to determine that My Traffic X, version 5.4c was the cause of a BEX/StackHash/NTDLL.dll crash he was getting. It was easy to disable My Traffic X in the Scenery Library and find that FSX no longer crashed. AVSIM recommends you do not run a flight any longer than 60 minutes as the Process Monitor log becomes quite large. For a 60 minutes flight, expect the file to be at least as large as 8GB’s or tens of millions of captured events. Make sure you delete the log or move it to another drive after you have finished your testing to free up HDD space. Another recommended tip is to make sure you use system time to mark the time of each event and do not use an external clock unless they are sync’d. Going through one minute of a glitch is a massive amount of data needed to be reviewed (it goes fast as thousands of entries just show a scenery being loaded). To run this utility properly, you need to capture only FSX/P3D events. It would be nearly impossible to find a possible glitch if Windows events or other system activities were being logged too. AVSIM recommends opening of the Process Monitor when you are on the active runway and preparing to takeoff to save space on your HDD: Open Process Monitor. Click on the Filter tab and then Filter….Display entries matching these conditions:Where it says Architecture, click on that and select “Process Name”Go next to the blank box and click on that and select FSX or P3D.exe and make sure “Include” is shown (FSX or P3D must be running when you do this!!). Once completed, click on Add and then click OK at the bottom of the form and Go Fly.You can use the utility while in Full Screen mode or Windowed Mode. In Windowed Mode you can monitor what is happening instantly but it is best to run Process Monitor in Full Screen (unless you are seeing freezes in Windowed Mode). When the flight is finished, immediately go to the Process Monitor application and hit Ctrl+E on your keyboard to capture the events (event logging will continue until you do this). Shutdown FSX/P3D and begin your investigating!Do not disable DEP. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 7, 201411 yr Author thanks Jim, DEP re-enabled. I already set up Process Monitor, I did a test flight yesterday, just recorded take-off and climb + pre-descend, descend and landing. 16.4 GB of data. I can't enable it on every flight because FSX sometimes stutters and loading times are longer, unfortunately no CTD happened on my last flight, let's pray this is not Murphy's law all over again. Jim is there any way to just save the filtered data on a capture?. I mean, when I load a capture I see all the events, I have to re-filter everytime I load it, It would save a lot of space and time if just fsx.exe events were dumped. August 7, 201411 yr Jim is there any way to just save the filtered data on a capture?. I mean, when I load a capture I see all the events, I have to re-filter everytime I load it, It would save a lot of space and time if just fsx.exe events were dumped. That's what the above process does. It filters only FSX and FSX addons are shown in the Process Monitor log. Unfortunately, events are happening fast and this is why I recommend you write down the time you saw a stutter, a glitch in FSX. Maybe a pause occurred or you saw blurry content. Things you want to investigate. The log has the times things are happening and thousands of processes are occurring every minute but this narrows things down to maybe where you can identify an issue with a program or scenery. For instance, when I had long pauses or a freeze, I wrote down the time. I looked at the log and MyTrafficX was about the only process running during that minute. I disabled MyTrafficX and the freezes and pauses stopped. There's a massive amount of data being processed though and it is sometimes not an easy task. I saw too that Orbx scenery was being loaded even though I had it disabled in FTX Central. Turned out it was all of the objects and Autogen located in the Scenery/World/Scenery folder which should have been disabled but wasn't. When I'm flying over Kansas I don't want to see textures from things in the Pacific Northwest or Europe or Asia being loaded. Just make sure you delete the log or move it to an empty HDD as the log becomes massive and a one hour flight will have about 8 gigs of data. That's massive! One bad thing about filtering out everything except FSX is that Windows processes may be the culprit too in causing your pauses, freezes, etc., but I would not recommend turning everything on as there is simply too much data to check out. But, during that minute you wrote down you did not see anything that could have caused a pause by FSX, then you should suspect a Windows process. I have disabled DEP in the past too as there's a simple program on the Internet that does it with a click of a switch. I was getting BEX/StackHash crashes and getting frustrated. I saw on the Internet that disabling DEP for the app will get rid of this type of crash. Well, maybe for other apps but it does not work for FSX and you are putting your computer at a security risk if you disable it. Hope this helps. August 7, 201411 yr Commercial Member Leave DEP enabled! You shouldn't disable DEP Do not disable DEP Hey Vernon, good call. I'm glad your PC is running well now, and you're passing on all the good stuff. Speak later buddy.Hi Jim, looks like you've got a keen one at your heels!
