Stuttering with b8?

Featured Replies

If not done already, try removing all plugins (and make sure they're all up to date). I had serious intermittent stuttering with b8 and rc1 but it seems it was cause with an out of date (beta) Real Terra Haze (a FlywithLua script).

Found the faulty plugin by removing them all and adding them back one by one. So far no stuttering after updating this script.

I realize many reasons could create this stuttering but never know plugins can be one of them, worth a try if you haven't already.

I was having stutters as well after updating and tracked it down to the headshake plugin.

Not sure if you have to remove the plugin though - maybe just disable it?

OK finally solved this issue...

The culprit was the Europe Library available on Simheaven. What a c**p! Once loaded, the stutters remained even if you changed to US ground. So it took me a day to solve this. I did some research, and in the Aerosoft forum, there's a (german) topic which has other users complaining about microstutters with the Europe Library, especially in metropolitan areas.

Lesson learned...

Do you mind pointing me to the forum where this was discussed in German please?

Here ya go: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/73124-mikroruckler-mit-europe-library/

You think this might solve your stutters too?

One thing I didn't want to miss from the library are the blue highway signs. So I edited the library to ONLY contain the changes in the road system. Easy and no stutters.

I tried it, didn't make much difference. Its smooth for me now, unless I hit an area with a lot of buildings during daylight, then it micro stutters?

Strange thing is though, that Europe Library worked very well before. And the above mentioned link to the German Aerosoft forum is over a year old. I think it might have a different reason - see here.

XP10.30b8 is quite new, as well as the latest NVidia drivers ... so it might be the NVidia driver. For me a roll back solved the problem.

My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...

I was surprised when I updated to new beta and, wham, stutters, which I have never had in XPlane.

Turned off HDR and everything back to smooth as silk. Wasn't really sure what difference it made in the sim, so I can live without it for now.

Glad to see it wasn't just me.

There seem to be two sources for these stutters, I suffered from both.

1. 10.30 with latest nVidia drivers. Downgrade the drivers to the last version (as stated above). Additionally, turning off HDR will smoothen things out (more than it should). Your results may vary though, for many, the latest driver works fine.

2. The R2 library buildings in the Europe library cause very bad (micro-)stutters every other second (maybe just on certain hardware). Easiest way to test if this affects you is to take of in a very dense area (my test airport was EDDL) - stuttering will be there immediately after takeoff.

To solve this - either get rid of the Europe library, or if you don't want to see the blue highway signs and other european road features go (they're perfectly fine - the stutters are caused by the european buildings from the R2 library) - you may edit the library file to only contain these. Easy, let me know if you need instructions.

Then add uwespeed's car library and all the european road features will be there without stutters - a good compromise, especially considering the higher LOD and general quality of Laminar's (albeit US) autogen. If you fly in dusk, X-Plane's "prime time", you will hardly notice the trailer parks, and profit from better night textures for the autogen, too.

I suspect the problem with the R2 library is ironically the LOD settings they use. i.e. Parts of the houses pop in and out based on LOD distances, e.g. Chimneys or roof/attic windows. For such small uncomplicated models this is actually seems to be detrimental to performance and doesn't actually seem to help (I remember also reading about this on Ben's blog). I've been slowly replacing R2 models and also fixing older models in the world-models repository and I've seen the popping effect reduce. It seems they may have tried too hard to optimise the models
