Got PrecipitFX snow effects working in p3dv2 AMAZING!

Featured Replies

Looks awesome. So just so I'm clear - the windshield drops FX on the Duke video are generated by the Duke, not PrecipitFX, correct?

Yupper has to be turned on in the model of each and every aircraft and developers have elected not too - man a heavy with that effect - sim heaven

In prepar3d I renamed texture and effects folder and replaced them with "dummy" named folders. Ran the installer with EMT enabled and once finished I had the dummy folders with files in them. I copied the newly installed files into the original backed up folders and renamed them back to their original state. Fired up p3dv2 and still the wormhole/vortek effect. I am puzzled why some have got this to work. User error maybe but don't think so.

I have the wormhole effect too; I don't have FSX installed either.

Should have listened to my inner voice telling me to just wait for the P3D version ^_^

wormhole effect too  ------ I have not seen this unless I was slamming around in f22 - is the other features working - meaning a nice difference from factory P3D rain and snow ?

Well I just did a fresh install of P3D and precipitfx did not install everything - you may be seeing the same thing thats why it may not be working - I did a backup of my original install and a bunch of files are not installing thinking estonia tool is not doing its thing - I have noticed this before with a fresh install of P3D estonia tool doesnt quite no what to do - theres away to get it acting right just cant remember how I got it to work properly

OK let me share some thoughts after 2 hours of testing.

1. I have wormhole too, but it's  less noticeable than with default effects. It is well seen with heavie precipitation, big speed and when is dark outside (night is still a nightmare). I think the wormwhole will be always - it's just FSX engine and it seems to be some unbreakable limitation.

2. Same with snow speed. It seems impossible to make global effect with slow "dancing" snowflakes.

However... snow from OldProp is incomparable to default one! There is really huge step forward! I really like it!

3. Contrails and wingtips- I don't know how it is in FSX, but in P3D they are barely noticeable at day time with bright sky. Even from close distance, I can't see contrails with AI planes. I can only spot them at dusk/dawn and very well at night. They are also very short. They are eye candy - yes. The best contrails I have ever seen. But forget to trace ### AI and Vatsim traffic. I think the problem is with performance, but if P3D native version is as short as FSX, I will be forced to give it up and use freeware 50nm long.

Overall this is good "start" version of this addon and it would be nice to make some improvements. Contrails visibility is my question to developer.

Now, to make snow even more subtle and wormhole effect less painful I used tweak described here: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=4199

And for me it works very well with PrecipitFX.

Winter is coming! Im so happy :D

Sweet shot Frank- yes developer has stated that contrails are not correct - they will be they are well aware of this - most things will will be much better when its ready for P3D and it s free also - how did you install this as the first time I installed it went perfect - did a new P3D install due to airbus issues and this time it would not install all the files - glad I backed up those files - curious how you installed it - seems that estonai tool did not work very well this time but I think the last time I installed PFX estonia tool had been installed for a long time and was doing its thing perfectly - seems like a new install of P3D estonia tool does not work as it should - thank you

Perhaps your right Rich.  This is something else we have in common....A fresh install of P3d with no trace of FSX.  I'f you happen to remember what you did to get it working please post it or send me a PM.

My "wormhole effect"  isn't as bad as the screenshot in this thread but that might just be related to the aircraft used and textures selected in REX?  Side window snow looks pretty good (looking out the side of cockpit using TIR but the front few reminds me of "Snow " on a old black and white TV.  The effect lightens a bit with airspeed which I believe to be intentional but ends up transitioning to the undesirable wormhole effect soon after flying speed is reached.  In this case I was using the Majestic Q400

I think all you have to do is enable then disable virtual fsx - also make sure virtual fsx is enabled at all times - set it forget it if you only run P3D - I dont think this is EMT issue I think its the PFX installer

I have a support e-mail out to PFX folks

Ok I'll give this a go I only enabled virtual FSX while installing software I have not tried running P3D with it enabled  I'll test when I am finished with my current flight.

I have installed Precipit without EMT. Just installed under FSX (first, renamed original effects and texture folders), then copied files into P3D.

What a great picture!

Thank you! :D

You need to disable virtual fsx if your going to fly in p3d, only leave it enabled for the install

I have both installed so I can use my PMDG birds. I didn't realise that if you have only p3d that you have to leave it on. My bad
