Which Heathrow scenery should I get?

AES AES AES ….when is the free kin' update coming?!
I'm assuming these sceneries do not have AES yet?? V2.37, then. I'm holding out for decent FS9 de-icing textures.

Yet another scenery developer

Are those ground polys? What happens if you add alpha?

When I said free 'kin update I meant AES development that was shown in January http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/78309-aes-development-preview/

UK2000 LHR V3 has AES support.

Aerosoft Heathrow Extended FS9 will have to wait until the next update.

Every scenery developer should know about alpha channel for textures by now.

That was what the freeware Alphasearcher was made for!

Textures without an alpha channel will cause stuttering and long load times.

For those who are interested :

UK2000 v3 texture folder size: 339 Mb (two textures found w/o alphas)

Aerosoft Heathrow Extended texture folder size: 2.87Gb (untold textures w/o alphas)

I think I need a break from FS. I really have had enough of this fiasco.

I completely understand your frustration Ed.  You'd think that after 11 years developers would have some idea and learned a thing or two,  particularly SimWings.  I find this very disappointing and thanks for having the nouse to run Alpasearcher.  Again the difference in texture folder size is telling.

Perhaps 2015 will be better and see you in a better frame-of-mind mate since Oliver must release your towbar.  He must, he simply must,  mustn't he?  :(

Capt_Sig_Day.jpgmce_forum_banner.jpg

Oliver doesn't have to do anything.

He hasn't fixed the green vomit crystals that pour over my planes during "de-icing" either.

And that didn't require  something new, just reverting to the previous version before it was "fixed".

Fact is AES is being developed for 2 dead pieces of software (FS9 + X), and has competition in the X arena.

The urgency may well have left the enterprise.

As to the alpha channel, no biggie. You just run convimx and it's done.

More power to the forums.

Why I asked about ground polys is that you break them by adding alpha.

Oliver doesn't have to do anything.

Aint that the truth.

It is a biggie. I do not expect to have to (well I do actually) check pay ware scenery for faults.

Never heard or seen or in fact know what you mean….please post a pic of a broken ground poly.

Alphasearcher is right up there as an essential FS tool for me. I add alphas and mips to any scenery that does not have them and experience much faster load times, no stuttering, no shimmering and higher fps.

Agreed.  Worst airport for me was in Saudi Arabia which was a total mess.  I thought the developer had taken the shimmering desert heat over the entire airport to extremes.   Usual corrective action tamed the issues and the airport is now flyable. I pity those users who are not savvy to these tools since I am sure they would regard their purchase as money down the drain.

Frankly this issue should be addressed as a sticky. Mods we used to have one ... it disappeared without trace or explanation several months ago.  What gives?

OK you're right, you've paid the money, it should be perfect.

But somehow nothing is, and so I run a little utility (because we know about it) and that is no biggie!

And take the time to let the dev know, so they can help those who don't... remember we are all a big happy flightsimming family, this is FS2004.

Drat, have you ever taken a car to have a rattle fixed?

Now I have to go try to break a ground poly.

Pass.

But I will bookmark this and next time I do, I will come back here :)

I don't expect perfection but when I have told you before I do not expect you to make the same mistake again…..especially when all you have to do is run a little utility……..

remember we are all a big happy flightsimming family

In case you have not noticed we are no longer one big happy family. FS9, FSX ,X-Plane, P-Diddy….

Ok maybe it's me, I certainly do not feel like we are one big happy family.

I thought the Gary Summons version of Heathrow was the best. Just goes to show that you only need 4 people to have 5 opinions.

OK but now you have to say why... :)

FSX ,X-Plane, P-Diddy….
What are these things you mention???

I think I'll go play with my old Simwings Heathrow... least there's somewhere for Concorde to park!

You know you have a good point there.

When I flew Tristar into the new UK2000 v3 LHR and I saw the static A380's  all over the place I thought…..do I really want this?

I do not want to enter the age of the ugly (IMO) A380. I want to stay in the age of steam.

edit* Of course next year I may change my mind……but that's my prerogative.

Crikey... Concorde, first and only (proper) supersonic airliner: Steam Age!

I went off and bought Imaginesim's KAUS, about as boring an airport as you'll find on the planet.

Maybe that will clear the head about EGGL

Concorde or A380? ….no contest IMHO.

EGGL? …did a search and that airport does not exist.

Thinking about family…. where's C-Dawg, Lord Shoxley, DJPrev ……?  :Cuppa:

How is it?  I am flying in there next week for the F1 race and was going to get the scenery for my virtual flight before my real one :)

Pretty good - nice baked textures, AFD needs a little work on the GA side, I'll post some pics in the appropriate thread. You can safely get it for your virtual flight, the modelling is good, boring refers to the real thing!

'Swot I meant when I reckoned a nice boring airport was what was needed... maybe I'll go back to my ergonomic keyboard, too.  B)
