November 22, 201411 yr The edits are great, works perfect during the day. At night, the ground textures are ok too, but for some reason the clouds are just always too bright (even without the moon). Have been noticing this since 2.3, it wasn't really an issue with 2.2. Any tips for the clouds? Thanks. Galen

November 22, 201411 yr This is a good calibration site http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
November 24, 201411 yr Thanks for the tip and website, turns out the gamma was too high. For me, clouds are still somewhat visible, but results are much better now. Galen
November 24, 201411 yr This is great tip for day flying, but it ruins P3D lovely dark nights :( That is why I have 2 HDR files : Daytime and Nighttime flying. I load them with a shortcut on my desktop through batchfiles. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
December 15, 201411 yr Hi, First of all, I'd like to thank Rob for the tweaks, I've been using them to great effect. One question I still have is about the strength of the "adaptation" effect. I have pretty much perfect brightness when looking down, but the moment I look up, the "auto exposure" effect kicks in, and I find it very unrealistic (way too dark, 'camera-like' rather than 'human eye-like'). Do you know if there's a way to tweak just this part of the effect, i.e. reduce the darkening bit without affecting the overall brightness? Tym
December 15, 201411 yr Hi, First of all, I'd like to thank Rob for the tweaks, I've been using them to great effect. I have also see this no idea whats going on maybe Rob could chime in - I will send him an e-mail now Rich Sennett
December 17, 201411 yr Thanks for sharing Rob. Do you know about a similar file for config in FSX DX10? Regards
December 18, 201411 yr Thanks for sharing Rob. Do you know about a similar file for config in FSX DX10? No sorry I don't ... you might want to approach Steve's DX10 fixer/controller product and ask what he can do ... he knows those files inside-out. Cheers, Rob.
December 22, 201411 yr Could control sliders be put into the P3D display settings, HDR, for this perhaps? Sounds like a useful tool to add for all to enjoy. December 22, 201411 yr Could control sliders be put into the P3D display settings, HDR, for this perhaps? Interesting idea, but the control would have to be done before the 3D world is loaded as it requires wiping out the shaders. And rebuilding shaders is time consuming and would probably generate complaints. Cheers, Rob.
December 22, 201411 yr Brilliant work Rob! If only I knew how to code atmospheric scattering as a custom pixel shader, the graphics would be complete for me. Shuai Li
December 22, 201411 yr Rob, have you found a way to reduce the range of HDR? I have found the perfect bloom for me, but I feel the darkest point is too dark and the brightest point is too bright. If I could reduce the range, the HDR would be perfect for me.

And rebuilding shaders is time consuming and would probably generate complaints. Cheers, Rob. Then this might be the perfect opportunity to address another shortcoming over the prior FSX interface which I've mentioned multiple times starting w/ 2.0. Currently, there is no way to access display settings BEFORE the 3D world is loaded, whereas you'll recall this was the case w/ FSX but disappeared in P3D. Since this is optional there is no necessity to generate complaints as it would become voluntary to adjust display settings and a brief message could be visible or popup to warn would-be complainers of the issue. Moreover, when I delete the shader folder the time to generate a new one is not particularly long compared to say loading scenery or other. Can you see something meaningful that would obviate this feature being added to the interface, i.e. to be able to access display & other settings prior to initiating a flight? December 22, 201411 yr Rob, have you found a way to reduce the range of HDR? Not yet, but sun textures will greatly influence HDR as will the cockpit glass textures from various aircraft. I was experimenting with different REX 4 sun textures and sky textures and was amazed by how much of an influence they have on HDR. I'd start by looking into the Sun textures and see how that works for your HDR range. Can you see something meaningful that would obviate this feature being added to the interface, i.e. to be able to access display & other settings prior to initiating a flight? This is already available, you can use -simdirector command line on the Prepar3d.exe ... this will bring you to SimDirector where you can make display settings changes, load AC, etc. etc. You can even build your own custom front end if you like. There is also the command line -cfgdir:YouNewConfigurationDir to use different sets of Prepar3d.cfg, SimConnect.xml, basically the AddData, LocalAppData, ProgramData) ... details are in the P3D learning center help file. Cheers, Rob.
