Bought the A2A....what a plane!

I'm on the fence about buying this one.  I've read a few folks are experiencing slower frames with the 182, and I'd like to hear more feedback before spending my money.  Secondly, anyone using this with the GTN 750?  It could be that's causing a fps hit as well.

I have this little beauty and fly with the GTN 750 installed. I have a 10 in. monitor for the 750 and it is just a great set up. I use Prepar3D. Hard to say about FPS as this is different for everyone. I use ORBX Global and vector with a nice smooth result. I will say that all in all this is the best GA experience I have ever had with a Flight Sim. I do have a few hours of real time in this aircraft and so far this is as good as it gets. Like many others have reported, I still am having some bounce problems when landing but that is due to a great flight model. We have all developed some bad habits with other aircraft that you kind of fly into the runway. There is no doubt it's worth the money.

No performance issues to report on my set-up (i72600k @4.53Ghz, EVGA GTX570). In fact, one of the best things about all the A2A add-ons is that they seem to have very good texture optimization (much like the MJC8 Q400). I can run the C182 at 60fps if I don't use complex add-on scenery or weather...

I don't use any add-on GPS software though, so can't comment there.

Did you already try that Shift-3 window with the 'elevator' setting on the lower left? ... Should be very useful when dealing with the small deflection range (vs. a yoke) of a joystick.

This is a handy feature of the recent Accu-Sim aircraft which isn't all that well documented. As I understand it, it can be used to reduce elevator authority at higher speeds whilst preserving full pitch control as slower speed. In other words, it won't make much difference when flaring, but helps with smoother pitch control when hand flying at cruise speeds.

Agree with the OP: the Skylane is a great add-on. The Cherokee still holds a dear place in my heart though!

Yesterday, I was flying the Cherokee from Baiyun to Hong Kong Intl. to test out my new airport scenery from FlyTampa, and during my 5 mile final at 1700 AGL, my engine cut out. I was so surprised, I simply stared as I sank towards the ocean. Just before crashing, I paused the sim and realized that, thanks to A2A's Accu-Sim, I had ran out of fuel in my selected tank!!!

In the future, I will perform a proper walk-around before each flight LOL!

Since you're on P3D it's the perfect time to upgrade to the GTN 750... :) F1 is working gauge brightness adjustments to knock the brightness down in the VC.

I think the fuel selector in the Cherokee catches out a lot of people who are used to flying Cessnas and other GA types with a 'both' position. It's easy to overlook switching tanks periodically and I've certainly ended up with a heavy wing on one side and a light one on the other!

Hi Ryan - actually I still use use FSX although I did try P3D for a month with the temporary 'developer licence' a few months ago. I'm sure I'll revisit it again at some point. I've also been considering an add-on GPS but haven't bit the bullet with that one yet either...

I've found a very slight difference in FPS between the 182 and the 172/Cherokee (which I find about equal).

I'd say the 182 is around 8-10% heavier.   If you're on a medium to high system, honestly you wouldn't notice a thing.   I'm on a lower-medium system (i7 2600k and crappy ATI 7850 2GB) so for me, I did notice lower frames and some lag when flying the 182 in, for example, Orbx ENG airfields that are located close to London, or in the PNW close to Seattle or Portland.

It's still a killer (good!) add-on though.   Wouldn't be without it.    I am flying it exclusively with the GTN750 too, so to be fair, some of the performance differential may be to do with that.

If an engine just quits, the vast majority of times it will be fuel delivery.  And the vast majority of these times, it will be the selected tank just ran out of fuel.  So, your almost immediate reaction if your engine quits is to "switch tanks" and establish a proper glide speed  You can then pull out your checklist, which will include things like putting on your electric fuel pump (if the mechanical fuel pump failed).  Also, if the engine quits it should continue to windmill at a slow speed, so while you go through your checklist, you can take a peek at your fuel pressure too.  Assuming you ran a tank dry, once you select a tank with fuel, it should startup in under 10 seconds.

Scott.

The texturing and flight modeling are out of this world, A2A 182T is the best GA release ever. I can't wait for a new release that goes faster and higher. it is heavier on framerates but not by much. I also fly the PMDG 777X and Carenado PC-12 and the 182 is less fps intensive
