January 30, 201511 yr Have you check the amount of Virtual Address Space (VAS) left? In FSX, after two hours of flight over photoscenery or GEX, FSX will start running out of VAS (Memory). When there's only about 400 MB's of VAS left or less then things start slowing down until FSX freezes or crashes. You only get 4 GB's for any application. I have rarely seen the terrain.dll error though. That module is changed whenever you add or remove scenery programs and it really is a rare faulting module in FSX and P3D. Best regards, VAS usage is well managed. Most recent crash had perhaps 1.5-2.0 GB of VAS remaining. I just tried a westbound Atlantic flight with a fast cruise in the MD-11. Actually, made it past Greenland this time, but only to CTD with terrain.dll in between Greenland and Newfoundland at the 4:30 hr mark after aircraft startup... It's curious. I restarted the flight at save point about 1/2 hour before I CTD'd, and now I'm well past the point where I CTD'd. Near Lake Ontario now. Daniel Moser
January 30, 201511 yr I have this terrain.dll crash as soon as I take off or within 15 minutes of taking off. Everytime. 100% of the time. Without fail. Same offset. I have backed off sliders, verified the cache, vanilla installation with the Aerosoft Airbus and PMDG 777 (though it does it with the defaults albeit longer time). It too bad because right up to the crash--it runs amazing. Then boom. CTD. Occassionally get the runtime error. I am going to try to download the runtimes to ensure tha all my libraries are good but it is very frustrating. Fortunately I have my MS Gold on a different drive. Jim Atkins
January 31, 201511 yr I had the issues with Scenery File error cfg This is what I discovered: 1) I have the Boxed Edition Gold FSX installed on a separate HD 2) I purchased the new Steam Edition and put it on the main HD. 3) Once I opened the new version I got this error. 4) I looked at the scenery library in FSXSE and found the scenery addon file names of all I had loaded in FSXGOLD were there. The actual files were not there but the file names somehow got transposed over. I just installed the actual folders from the original files in FSXGOLD and the scenery was there and the error messages were gone. 5) After a while I deleted FSXSE because of many other issues and decided to wait for a newer version to be released by Dovetail. Dovetail in my opinion just put a lot of bandages on an old program. I have my FSXGOLD running very well so it did not make sense to have 2 of the same thing.

February 4, 201511 yr There are times in this hobby of ours when I do not know how to make heads or tails out it. Last week, no Avsim FSX cfg tweak, plain vanilla FSX-SE, default weather, default Scenery sliders, in the PMDG777-300ER, EGCC-CYYZ, just entered North-Eastern Canada, 2 hours to destination, got a terrain.dll CTD. 2nd long-haul flight same routing as above except this time, I shoved those sliders to max. Same time frame more or less, got the G3d.dll CTD. Great! Read a lot of posts about terrain.dll and G3d.dll related CTDs. Turned Scenery sliders back; used the Avsim FSX,cfg tweak, set the Nvidia Inspector settings, etc, etc. This time I tried a longer different route, EBBR-CYYZ, default airports, default weather, no compression, all in real-time, and unbelievably have just landed without a single issue. Monitored VAS 2 hours out with bated breath that I'd get that terrain.dll CTD, and I was stunned that I still had 1.4Gb when I landed. Not only that, compared to an earlier post I made of FPS dropping ridiculously low to 1-2fps, throughout this flight, never dropped below 20-25fps and over different sceneries also rose. In short, I'm as they say here, 'gob-smacked'! Rick Almeida

February 4, 201511 yr I had a lot of terrain.dll crashes. I got tired and reinstalled it in another folder (I uninstalled Steam as well) Now going strong for more than 11hrs+ ( YMML-VABB) and now landing! Try this if you want to!
February 4, 201511 yr Not only that, compared to an earlier post I made of FPS dropping ridiculously low to 1-2fps, throughout this flight, never dropped below 20-25fps and over different sceneries also rose. Way to go there Rick! Hopefully you can now enjoy your flight plans and have some more fun! I got tired and reinstalled it in another folder (I uninstalled Steam as well)Now going strong for more than 11hrs+ ( YMML-VABB) and now landing! Another great success story! How and where you install your FS programs is also extremely important. Got me another 500GB SSD and going to reinstall Windows, FSX and my million addons again. It has been over a year since I last did this and it's always nice to start out with a fresh install. I've always had my FSX installed in the default folders since I first bought it back in 2006 but this time I'm going to try a separate directory. February 4, 201511 yr Jim. If you have two 500GB SSD. How do you install MSFSX, P3D, FSX-SE and Windows? Ahmet Sanal "Time you enjoyed wasting, was not wasted"
February 4, 201511 yr Jim. If you have two 500GB SSD. How do you install MSFSX, P3D, FSX-SE and Windows? I do not have two 500GB SSD's, just one SSD 256GB (current one with FSX/Windows) and the new 500GB. I have not decided exactly what is going where yet but I will be installing FSX as suggested by many others and per this PMDG guide - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.
