January 9, 201511 yr Have to agree with both the 770 and the 970. As per my profile specs, my 4g GTX 770 dual classified does a really good job on FSX, but it's downside is that it is pricey ( if you can still get one). IMO, the real hidden gem out there is the ASUS 4gig GTX 970 STRIX with DIRECTCU II cooling. I have it on my SB gaming rig and it performs great and as cool as a cucumber at a competitive price. Seriously thinking of moving it to my FSX rig. http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Graphics_Cards/STRIXGTX970DC2OC4GD5/ Regards, Rick Hobbs
January 10, 201511 yr If you end up getting either getting the Nvidia GTX 970 or the ATI P9, you will probably need to upgrade your power supply to a 750W or bigger. I think the GTX requires that now...Good luck! I just got that 970 and its awesome! Jon R Las Vegas Jon Richardson Raleigh, NC
January 10, 201511 yr Just upgraded from a evga gtx580 to a gtx970 i would not go for a gtx980 as its not worth the extra cost and the 970 is best bang for your money. fsx runs so much smoother compared to the 580 i had. i got the msi gtx970 for around £280 with free game and the performance is perfect i would just save the extra money you would spend on the 980 and treat yourself to a few addons. so for me it would be a msi gtx970 as the fans rarely kick in and is super quiet or the asus strix but it was out of stock and liked the msi version better.
January 10, 201511 yr I have a GTX 570. Do you suggest I upgrade to the 970? Get a 4g model and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Rick Hobbs

January 10, 201511 yr Noted! Thanks guys. They are $500AUD - guess I will save a bit of money before forking out that kind of cash! Brent Lewis

I am aware that once I upgrade the video card I'll need to upgrade my power supply as well. I was thinking about 800W - is that enough? I don't plan to do SLI in the near future. Only further parts I plan to add later on would be another RAM memory stick and one or two SSDs.
January 10, 201511 yr MO, the real hidden gem out there is the ASUS 4gig GTX 970 STRIX with DIRECTCU II cooling. I have it on my SB gaming rig and it performs great and as cool as a cucumber at a competitive price. Seriously thinking of moving it to my FSX rig. And following your suggestion with a little bit of research, I swapped my config from the MSI GTX970 to the ASUS STRIX OC GTX970. Can't say how well it performs yet as I only got the parts today. Assembling the entire rig plus installing the OS, then drivers, etc took a lot of time and I had to pack it again as I'm traveling in a few hours, with the system. I sure hope I'll see a marked improvement with the new build but the ASUS card looks 'hella sick!'.
January 10, 201511 yr Worth also considering X-Plane as PMDG products are branching off in that direction and there are other very promising projects in the pipeline. X-Plane is very demanding on graphics hardware and I have seen a video of the 980 struggling to hit 25fps with all the options turned up but no clouds in the sky. Alistair Brown
January 10, 201511 yr Hi Jhon: An 800W power supply will work out great and will push everything you have listed. If you end up adding a few more SATA drives you might want to even look at 1000w ones...but 800w will do just fine...Let us know how it turns out! Jon Richardson Raleigh, NC
January 14, 201511 yr Author Surely will! Thanks for the information. I'll let you guys know what my final decision was and what was its outcome.
January 14, 201511 yr I just want to be the devil's advocate. I think the GTX970 is probably your best choice but I am running on an AMD R290x and I am getting pretty darn good framerate since they came out with the latest omega drivers series. P3D is not really using my card to its max. Its more likely limited by my I5 4670k processor than anything. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
January 18, 201511 yr I would also vote for the GTX970 (or 770 if you can still get it), but as an aside, do you really have 1x8GB RAM? For that processor, you should have two matching sticks, I believe. Either 2X4GB or 2X8GB.. does make a performance difference if youre using a matching stick compare to a single stick? im also using a single stick ram 1x 8gb. and im not having a performance issue yet. January 18, 201511 yr I have an EVGA and their customer support is outstanding. I've had t call them several times and they are easy to get a hold of and I believe they have 24 hrs support. About 6 months ago I was suspecting my video card was going bad but I didn't know for sure. It was only a year old and still covered under the 3 year warranty. EVGA tried to trouble shoot over the phone but they ended up sending me a brand new card, actually an upgraded one since my model isn't made anymore. I can't say enough good things about them. I have ver similar specs as your computer, you will like it. I have an EVGA and their customer support is outstanding.
