As mentioned earlier, and in another more recent thread, there is ongoing work in enhancing/advancing the FDM's of Outerra aircraft. This is one of the fruits of that effort, with a request for feedback from Simon, also known as Bomber, with the assistance of Levi Cires; volunteers who have done much to show Outerras true potential.

Those with the aviation knowledge to do so, please take the request for feedback seriously. Without valid feedback, how can the work be reality checked?

Thank you, in advance!

Some weight balance corrections to take into account unusable fuel in the tanks....oil usage added
The major news is that it has a new 'fuel system' that models gravity feed and negative 'G' effects.

Guys... for those with joysticks what I really need is for you to spin her, as there are a few ways for which to move on this and I'm not sure if I've got it correct... I need feedback on this.

Need a serious testing regime in Outerra, with genuine passion for the task, a professional approach to documenting the findings and the gumption to call a spade a spade.... no flannel..

Regards

Simon

Try PMing Jcomm, LAdamson and maybe Andy Goldstein over at x-plane.org. They've all been quite vocal about the nitty gritty of flight models.

I have mentioned it to Jcomm from time to time, but I think he is involved in other things, and Outerra is likely not sophisticated enough to interest him, yet.  ^_^

Plus I'm not sure I want to bother anyone who hasn't already expressed an interest in Outerra on their own. Lets see if people come forward on their own, first.

I will gladly test it HiFlyer, as soon as I get the time to install it.

Will PM you when ready to start installing things :)

Since you are probably unfamiliar, some caveats, first. The Demo is free. Full functionality so that you can mess with planes, vehicles, boats and etc is $15

The demo is just a few hundred gigs. Afterward, it downloads and caches any area you fly over so that it never needs to download that area again. However, if you have a slow connection there can be slight pauses.

Those interested can simply download the entire world, which is about 13 gigs and avoid download pauses. Follow the link for either direct download or as a two torrents.

For somebody accustomed to FSX and X-plane framerates, and with a more modest machine, you might just get your socks blown off on Outerras framerates at default with multiple effects being used.

Hi Hiflyer, thx for the detailed description!

I even had it installed once, and one of my friends registered it. That's exactly what I intend to do.

My only "problem" is that my PC is now limited to two SSD 250 GB disks, one for system and apps, the other for PSX + FSX:SE + SilentWings... I will try to make a minimal install of the best populated demo areas for Outerra.

I will only be next to my sim PC by next Friday though  :-(  I will then probably contact you again asking for further assistance :-)

But I am really enthusiastic about the future of Outerra, and other possible projects based on it, and have been following closely this thread :-)

By the way the line that said a few hundred gigs should have said a few hundred megs. The whole earth is only about 13 gigs.

When are we going to see some cities and buildings ? All we've been seeing since the past 3 years is grass lol. I bought the alpha but lost all the interest after a few days. Not to mention the engine has insane potential. I hope someone starts porting over x-plane objects to create cities.

Huh?

Acetone has been creating towns and stuff like a madman. And Tonywobs world to x-plane buildings are all available for Outerra. Hundreds of them. Not to mention Levi porting planes left and right. Where have you been? Go to the Outerra scenery thread. Or one of the download sites. http://www.outerramods.com/  http://outerramodels.com/

However, your story is far from unique. Compared to the richness of FSX or X-plane Outerra is currently pretty slim pickings. Right now it's for those who see the potential and want to be part of building it, rather than those wanting a replacement for FSX next week.

Honestly I just want the scenery tools to evolve so I can roll up my sleeves and dig in. In the meantime, I cheer on those like Uriah and Levi (and maybe one day Jcomm) and others, with the skills today to help push this enterprise forward into tomorrow.

When using Outerra, it's best to think of yourself as a beta tester for the duration.

Upcoming...........

Welcome aboard!

Feel free to ask if you have any problems, seems like the latest build is creating some random updating errors...

Thx a lot, Hiflyer and Acetone :-)

I'm very far from home but will rush installing it ASAP :-)

I'm perfect with just a few buildings. What interests me the most is atmosphere ( for the time being just the looks ) and the aircraft :)
