If you are having trouble with FSX:SE install:

Featured Replies

Well, apparently the latest installers solved the problems, right?

I guess I got those because I installed my 777 flawlessly, and it's running beautifuly in FSX-SE, the only version of FSX on my rig.

I did use the fsx registry tweak utilty after installing FSX-SE to set the FSX path accordingly, and only after that started installing my add-ons - only possible because that's the only FSX in my system ...

That is supposed to happen the first time you select the aircraft, but only once. If it keeps on asking then try running FSX as admin, but that might not help so if it keeps asking for key then update the ticket with this information.  This could be related to your first problem with the -300ER installation. The same problem might be causing both symptoms.

Not working for me with latest version downloaded 30 Jan.

Completely dark cockpit, throttles maxed, yoke stuck on full left aileron, no landing gear, unable to use any of the controls, etc...

Installations were;

FSX installed

FSX SE added to above

FSX and FSX SE plus STEAM uninstalled

STEAM reinstalled plus FSX SE

FSX SE definately seems to run better, smoother, but I am having so much trouble with all of my addons I have decided to uninstall the lot and go back to FSX Gold Edition

Are you reinstalling all your addons using the new FSX-SE path? if you just copied and pasted then you will end up with problems

Again,

and since I am yet to experience any of these problems, but the fact is they do exist because users are reporting them, my only guess is that I was probably lucky because:

1) I didn't have FSX Gold installed and I had wipped all registry entries manually, long ago...

2) After installing FSX-SE and before installing any add-ons, I ran the fsx registry tweak utility to create FSX registry entries pointing into FSX-SE install folder.

3) ... I was really trying to hold regarding my acquisition of the -300 extension, but this 777 is such a great add-on ( IMHO probably the Jewel of the PMDG fleet so far... )

that, even after reading about all of the problems users are having when trying to install it into FSX-SE, I just took the plunge...

I will install it ( so I hope ) in a couple of hours and try to report back the results in this same thread :-)

4) ( to be continued... after the successful or unsuccessful install of the -300 extension... )

Hi Zoran

Yes, I uninstalled using the PMDG procedure specified which clears everything and my reinstalls were all using latest installers.

The only addons I tried on FSX SE which worked well were Quality Wings Ultimate 146 and EZDOC.

Having tried twice to make it work I am confident there are real problems with addons on FSX SE and I will be leaving this for some time

to see how it all works out.

STEAM really needs to start a serious conversation with Software developers if this worthwhile development is to have future.

The FSX community, and there are many of us, would love to see some development of FSX.

As promised...

- Downloaded the -300 777 expansion from PMDG this morning, and installed it an hour ago - not a single glitch

- Completed a full short range flight, from cold & dark to gate, smooth and amazingly beautiful as only the 777-300 can be :-)

1) In my PC I only have FSX-SE installed, and all previous FSX registry entries had been erased - the first time I installed FSX-SE, I ran the FSX registry tweak utility to make sure the registry entry for FSX pointed to the folder where Steam installed FSX-SE, which in my case is on a different partition from where my Win7 Home Premium is installed. This tweak can not be applied by users with multiple FSX installs though...

2) Apart from PMDG 777-200LR and now the -300, I also have three RealAirs, the Majestic Q400, Carenado's B1900d, Aerosoft Madeira Airport ( the VistaMare component isn't running, but         really no big deal for me...), FSUIPC, and I am presently using the latest ( released today ) version of FSXWX for weather.

3) Steve's DX10 Fixer is provuiding me with DX10 mode :-)

4) ORBX FTX Global is providing me with much more plausible autogen and textures

Nop,..... they just ignored all that, and now, here we are,  tweaking and spending time in the config file and making the PMDG developers waist their time answering and trying to resolve the impossible...FSX not matter what we do will be unstable......The easy answer for all this will be :dont install any airports, or scenarions, or fly any heavy PMDG 777 aircrafts and u FSX will be fine,,SURE.....seriously, once T777 for prepar3d comes out I will put my three FSX CDS in the BBQ and get a drink (includding this FSX ES version)

Is just ridiculous......

Pedro,

I don't think any version of P3D, FSX or FSX-SE will indeed do miracles... Perhaps when P3d becomes 64 bit...  But so far, I haven't had, in my long history of FSX use, such a stable and smooth platform as FSX SE is. Have been flying mostly the 777, now also the -300, and Majestic's Q400, as well as Aerowinx PSX ( in this case using FSX SE only as a scenery generator ), and didn't experience one single OOM so far !

I am running in DX10 mode ( using Steve's fixer ), and have ORBX FTX Glogal installed.  The only scenery I have is Aerosoft's Madeira. But this was about what I ever had installed in FSX, and I did have, even if only on rare occasions, OOMs... Maybe they're yet to happen, I don't know, but so far, so good!

Actually, when I got the 777-200 LR, soon after the release in 2013, I re-installed FSX Golden ( through GFWL ), and used the aircraft for more than 2 months, on several short, medium and long-haul flights, using PMDG's "cruise control", and never had a single problem with it - no CTD or OOM !  But in terms of smoothness, specially under severe weather with big convective clouds all around me, in various layers, I did notice a lot more of an impact in my frames, and stutters, then I do now - actually I can say that it has no impact. It can be due to the newer Nvidia drivers I am using (I always upgrade to the last WHQL version), but I tend to believe it's more related to the optimized executables that are provided with the Steam Edition ( ? )

Quick question? are u using W7 or W8...if windows 8, are u having USB disconnect? when loading T777?.......Do you have/ installed Fsdream airports?.....Just to make sure is just me.....I have both windows in different SSD same with FSX X gold acceleration and FSX ES.....Finally I rolled back to W7....since my USB saitek pro flight disconnect (PMDG using T777) every time I click in my second monitor where I display  Vpilot etc.....

Just to make sure ....

Thank you

Pedro,

- I am still on Win 7 64 Home Premium. System i5 2500 k @ 3,3Ghz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, and Nvidia GTX 650 Ti  1GB GDDR5.

- I have only one SATA disk ( 1TB ) with a SIMS partition where I installed FSX-SE.

- As previously in FSX Gold I have only FSUIPC4, ORBX FTX Global and the Aerowinx Madeira scenery. No AI software.

- I am not yet using ASN for weather injection because the FSX-SE-compatible version is still under test, but

  I am successfuly using FSXWX.

- I am in DX10 mode

Ahhhh ok...My report was based in W8.1...sorry I dint mentioned...seems that FSX E doesn't like usb connections with saitek, plus PMDG , plus Fsdream airports ect...etc....But some people have not report any issues using W8...so is maybe just me...However I am not going to open any tickets..I dont want to bother PMDG support team....I rather prefer wait until P3D is done....I am back W7 .....for now

We don't currently support Win8 or Win8.1...  Right now we are pretty heavily focused on helping the folks on supported platforms- but once we get their issues sorted we MIGHT have time to help you diagnose.

Well that saves me ordering which I was going to do tonight.

I use Windows 8.1

Windows 7 is now an unsupported platform from Microsoft so there are no updates other than major products.

This is a dissapointment for me as I had been really looking forward to this and especially the Prepar3D release.

It looks as if I have to go for the Aerosoft Xplane one which while good does not I believe match yours.

win8 and 8.1 are better for fsx, fsxse, p3dv2, etc.  I never had problems.
