May 29, 200521 yr Dear Simmers,Like me, you probably have a lot of various add-on planes. And you would also accept the fact that many aicraft have character. This is difficult to quantify, but depending on the history of the particular aircraft and your personal opinions, and the skill to which the add-on developer has made the aircraft, which do you feel have lots of character? For me those add-ons are:1. The MAAM DC32. The DF 7273. The RealAir Spitfire4. The F1 ATR725. The DF A366. The LD 7677. The RFP 747-2008. The IGFly Tu-154M9. The CS 70710. The PMDG 737 NG series. The above are the ones that I find myself returning back to often. The aircraft that I believe have a dose of character included in their design as add-ons.I also believe that developers should always strife to bring the character of the particular aircraft out in the add-on, which is by no means an easy task, I am sure. Please comment on the above and put, your own lists of add-on aircraft that you think have got character well represented.
May 29, 200521 yr The MAAM-sim planes (of course)FSD Seneca VRealair Decathlon and SpitfireBill Lyons' creationsFreeware MauleAircraft by Milton ShupeThese are some aircraft that I think has distinct "personalities". There are others that could possibly get on the list if I spent some more quality time with them, like DF C310 and A36 and Aerosoft's Katana.-
May 29, 200521 yr As you may expect, the planes I feel that have the most charachter are the older aircraft. Some of the early British jets such as the comet have lots of charachter. Even some aircraft like the 727 in an old paint scheme. Sadly, nowadays planes are built mainly for the purpse and nothing else, and we probably wont see any more really stylish designs like the Viscount or even some of the V-Bombers. However id rather fly a modern airbus A319 or 20. Though they are a common site at airfields, these planes are similar to many other planes in design, but their just really unique and cute little planes. Go Airbus! May 29, 200521 yr Aircraft with "character." What an excellent descriptor! Good job...and definitely worth a reply!Okay, in order of most character first, which may change at any moment depending on my whimsy:The Howard 500. How can you beat the earth shattering roar those two Pratt & Whitney R2800's are going to make at takeoff...or their soft, pervasive purring at cruise. The Shrike Commander. Almost fighter-like performance out of a medium twin...it carries six with a decent payload and fuel, relatively fast and far. And, lands just about anywhere you can point the nose, rough field or short. The ACA Super Decathalon...possibly one of the most detailed freeware aircraft?Piglet's T-33A. He captured the grace, both in the jets' lines and flight.**'s B-17. For anyone, and I mean anyone to deny that the B-17 did not have character, soul even...well, they would need to read about that aircraft. As my wife remarked, it seemed as if that plane worked hard to bring her crews home every time. Probably should go to top honors.**'s P-51D Mustang. Has a NACA rating cleaner than a Beech Bonanza, and still one of the most classic designs ever. Still looks like it came off the drawing boards yesterday. The ALPHA BLEU CIEL Corsair. Again, one of the top freeware aircraft, this one truly captures the Pratt R2800 and the imposing presence that fighter has just sitting on the ramp.I'd better stop now. This list could go on...Dan
May 29, 200521 yr Character... I'd go with the RealAir SF-260 Marchetti and Flight1 Cessna 421 Golden Eagle. Bert
May 30, 200521 yr This aircraft belongs to a real pilot and definitely has his own character.I like it very much.http://www3.sympatico.ca/seroka/lo14.jpg

May 30, 200521 yr If I had to pick the top 2 for Character Only , it would be the Lyons G-21 Goose and the fsdzigns.com Lockheed Constellation.
May 30, 200521 yr I think I`d go for David Maltby`s BAC1-11 or HS121. Both are superb, and they both have that wonderful 'lived-in' look. For payware, I`d have to say the Dreamfleet 737-400 in FS2002 was probably the aircraft that has held my exclusive attention the longest, though the Realair SF-260 is right up there.Cheers
May 30, 200521 yr I second the Howard 500. Its a fave. Not to mention the Pilots B314 and the freeware Chippie. To be honest I rather enjoy the stock DC3 and Comet too.IMHO, anything that goes "bing" when you reach your desired altitude can't possibly posses any character :-lolIRL, one of the most characterful 'modern' spamcans is the Grumman AA5; a pilots spamcan if ever there was such a thing. I am very suprised that nobody has made a Payware one.
May 30, 200521 yr Hi guys! My vote for the aircraft with the most character has got to go to the amazing Project Tupolev TU-154b-2.This is an absolutely amazing aircraft and has the most character of any flightsim aircraft I have ever seen! Johnnyvk(inCYOW)
May 31, 200521 yr Bobsk8; I've got to go with you on the FSDZigns Connie; Absolutely LOADED with character. I have the ** set also and just love the BOMBERS! But OH that CONNIE!:-jumpy DennyProfessional Tourist Denny Retired Professional Tourist
