June 9, 200520 yr There's a FAQ on their site regarding this issue, and it has to do with cookies. They say if you get that message, to delete your cookies and try again. It worked for me.(BTW... It's a really nice airplane!)Ken
June 9, 200520 yr This plane looks really nice, but I cannot justify buying it. I already own the Centurion and DF C-177 and Flight Ones C-172R. What would I be getting that is unique about this plane that I do not already have in these similar models?
June 9, 200520 yr Well, I own all the planes you mention, and if indeed you like VCs.. this one is the one.. Bert

June 10, 200520 yr >If all somebody wishes to do with the sim is pratice>instrument approaches thats fine. But I think it's fairly>obvious that the sim is designed to appeal to a broad audience>and theres an awful lot more to flying than just>instrument approaches.Personally, I prefer instrument flying, even at VFR levels. Most of the time I manually land all aircraft, but then actually do a touch and go, so ATV brings me around again, and again. Landings to me are more fun than anything else, except flying through the Grand Canyon, using FSGENESIS mesh. >people who buy the sim are "into" aviation (and most aren't>pilots in the rw at all). Everyone I know who uses the sim, 7 friends, 5 children, and 17 grandchildren. (I gave it to the latter for Xmas...) Use it because they would actuall LIKE to be a RW pilot, but either cant afford it, or like cant pass the physical any longer.> For them (and me) this is as much>an aviation museum in a box as it is a bland and turgid tool>for study...As my wife says, "You really get into it when you fly, even your body language says you are in an airplane, you lean when banking, etc..." Been doing that since the days when mountains were just lines.>>BTW, people view airplanes in flight all the time. Take a>look through that issue of Flying Magazine you refer to. I>believe it's pages are filled with lovely photos of planes in>flight...Nope, those are "still" pictures, just a split second snapshot of time, and dont even come close to the view you see jumping out of an aircraft. Does not give you any concept of the Size... a Cessna in a picture looks as big as a C47....Eye candy of the outside for me, is good, for about the first 3-5 minutes I get any model. From than on, I seldom if ever look at the outside. I turn the visual model down low, and use the framerates for flying. We spend a LOT more time looking at the instruments, even when not flying IFR... So the visual scenery out the windscreen is much more important to me... Especially when I've been to all the places. Its fun flying, through all the 52 National Parks Ive visited, and many of the state parks in the country weve camped in. You can't even fly over many of them in real life. Ive paid as much as $600 for my wife and I to fly in the Grand Canyon in a Chopper, now can relive that experience over, and over, and over, at no additional charge. We've flown into the Canyon for Lunch or Dinner almost every year since 1968. With the FS can fly into areas of the Canyon they would never let you fly in. Fly over areas where there are sancuaries, etc...We believed all our lives in living today, not putting things off until retirement. (My Dad did, then began having Heart attacks at 62, and had five by the time he retired. Then could do anything he had planed to do in retirement.) So we have traveled 35-67,000 miles a year, by Motorcycle, camping in Tents, etc... The year we went 67,000 miles, we only worked six months, working one month, taking trips the next. Its a great life if you can do it. Some ask "What is the purpose of life." Our answer, "The purpose is to enjoy each day to the fullest."Flying with the FS, reliving all our memories, Keeps us Young.
June 10, 200520 yr All I can say is ..Carando is losing business: I have tried using different computers:We are sorry, your order cound not be proceced.Error: No existe cliente en la base de datos. [resumen2.php3 (55)] Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
June 10, 200520 yr "Error: No existe cliente en la base de datos."Watch your language when using this forum! ;-) (really, I have no idea what that says)They seem to be having problems. Their web site has been down.
June 10, 200520 yr I had this as well... you need to delete the cookie that Carenado sets when first connected. if you were not a customer previously, it will "remember this" no matter what you do later.. until the cookie is deleted.Another strategy is to use a different browser (that does no have the cookie set). June 11, 200520 yr I just purchased the 182RG and while it flys nicely, I agree that the flap effectiveness seems a bit off. Having some real 182 time, when you put all the flaps down, it wants to lose altitude pretty quickly unless you apply some power. The other issue I have with the 182RG is the engine sounds, and I am surprised that nobody mentioned that. Full power takeoff results in a rather obvious looping sound on my system, rather than a smooth constant engine sound on all my other aircraft. The loop seems to be about 4 seconds long with a weird sound beginning at about the 3rd second. I find it pretty annoying. In addition, the gear and flap sounds seem to be 3x as loud as they should be. I will do some editing on the volume on those sounds, but don't know of anyway to fix the engine takeoff and run sounds, other than trying to replace them from another aircraft.
