July 26, 201510 yr Oh Richard, I bet you an insincere apology that you are wrong and V3.0 will be 64! Bring it on. I know one think I am not buying the same old addon stuff all over again. Time for a change, a big change! The industry will rise to the occassion to build us excitement all over again! Lets do it! Kindest regards,
July 26, 201510 yr If 3.0 is 64bit we are going to have a loooooooong wait for an update to 2.5 as building a new sim from scratch is going to take a lot longer than the time I think they have invested so far Rich Sennett
July 26, 201510 yr Stephen, I think that Rich is right. I remember having read that V3 will still be 32 bit, but with a greatly improved VAS handeling. I can imagine that W10 and DX12 are part of that. The issue with P3D ( and FSX ) is that every object loaded uses VAS even if that object is already far out of sight. See the Fs structure as a giant octopus and every object is attached to a tentacle. Some objects to small tentacle and others to larger tentacles. Smaller tentacles need few VAS while larger tentacles need more VAS. There comes a point where Fs chooks in its tentacles ( OOM ). If P3D v3 uses less VAS per object or is able to delete object far away out of the VAS than a 32 bit version will surely have a future : smaller chance for OOM and still backwards compatibilty.... July 26, 201510 yr 3.0 will not be 64 - way to soon for that folks Rich, why do you think it'll be too soon? (It's not a trick question, I'm genuinely interested mate) Don't forget, they're not building a new sim from scratch (but I doubt it's as simple as selecting the 64bit dropdown option in the Visual Studio build menu either!) Obviously, it's all speculation. Us users don't know one way or the other. In my opinion (based on past release dates) we'll see v3.0 in November 2015. At some point after its release, LM will announce an optional 64bit version that'll be developed alongside the 32bit version. There'll be some resistance at first. Very few addons will work and the apparent performance gain will be little to none. All the skeptics will rejoice. Over time, more and more addon developers will release 64bit versions until one day, someone realises that he's just done a long haul in the triple 7 with all his sliders on max and landed at London Heathrow without running out of memory (he'll be getting 10fps, but no OOM error ) Eventually, one of the v3 dot releases will be the final 32bit version of P3D ...and they all lived happily ever after  Neil Andrews. July 26, 201510 yr Which will be the day after I install 2.5 In which case, could you please install 2.5 today?

Just my 2 cents. That doesn't make sense. FSX addons from good developers already use as little VAS as possible, DX12 may make a slight difference (the same sort of difference DX11 did), i doubt it will be a game changer If LM were able to make significant enough changes to P3D V3 32-bit to eliminate or significantly reduce VAS usage the chances are nothing we use now would be compatible anyway. If you are going to this much effort, why not move to 64-bit? As has been mentioned above, i would think that two versions will be offered, a 32-bit backwards compatible version and an experimental 64-bit version; that way you keep both sides of your business customers happy, i don't think we will factor into their equation at all. it's what the commercial customers desire, somehow i don't think that will be Windows 10 and DX12. Both are very new, businesses are usually quite conservative. Ian R Tyldesley
July 26, 201510 yr 64bit is not re-building the sim, in a basic level it comes down to changing variables from 32bit to b4bit (that's a very basic explanation) and this could be a small or a lot of work, depending on how the code has been written. But, I imagine there are lots of other bits they are working on as well, as the same time, rather then only focussing on that, which would slow it down, obviously. This quote doesn't tell us anything new, but this is what they said a while ago Wesley: The 64-bit question is a great one, and it's kind of tied directly into backwards compatibility. When we do go 64-bit, most of the currently compiled add-ons won't work. Similarly to how we see people requesting advanced flight dynamics to the core, etc. - that is hard to do and to move forward and still keep backwards compatibility. Customers already have a host of add-ons they are invested in, and we are invested in our developer network members who build content for Prepar3D as well. So what we've done there for v2, is create an all new iSimObject interface. This is an entirely new interface directly to the core of the simulation that let's developers develop and use their own flight-models and dynamics and variables. Literally anything is on the table with this new interface. We really hope developers begin to leverage it. So, with all that said, v2 is 32-bit. We've put a lot of thought into a 64-bit v2, and will continue to do so, but I can't promise you when it will be done or ready, or what all the hiccups with existing add-ons would be. Chris Smith
July 26, 201510 yr (he'll be getting 10fps, but no OOM error ) Of course not, Skylake will give us 100+ fps on all our complex addons! <p>Dassault Falcon, Lear, Embraer and Challenger and Cessna Mechanic.Broadcasting live from former Soviet Missile Silo.Rhys Legge
July 26, 201510 yr LOL....You are all WRONG!! a....n....d....YOU ARE ALL CORRECT!! LM is a big outfit and they think big. I suspect that somewhere in a back office, their is a group of guys who have for months if not years, been working on the rewrite and conversion of P3D to 64 bit. I would be very surprised if they don't have at least Alpha versions up and running and may be working with a couple of trusted developers for content such as airplanes, Mars Landers, Moon Settlements, ships, subs and more! Unlike our new Federal Government, LM knows how to keep a secret and run secure networks. We tend to forget that this whole Prepar3d thing is way larger than our little hobby. LM is not going to hold back for ever waiting on our little community. When the rubber hits the road then a lot of folks are going to have to decide if they want to play the DTG Flight next game or have a flight sim in their home and yes it will cost a bit more money. I do think however that the Ver 3.0 will not be that 64 bit release. Looking around the net there seems to be room for a lot of expansion with the new GPUs and some form of SLI or chained GPUs with even more memory and much larger pipelines. I suspect that there is going to be more news to come on the future Windows 10 as it is updated. I think the next 3 to 6 months may change things more than we know. July 26, 201510 yr In any case, I think, we will soon be able to see for ourselves what the early build Windows 10 will work like with V2 at least. As the monkey said when the lawnmower ran over his tail, "It won't be long now!" Kind regards,
July 26, 201510 yr Speaking of Windows 10 ... "The future starts now"? There are so many bad ways to interpret this Microsoft commercial ... can't believe their Marketing people would produce such a horrible advertisement ... sometimes I think Microsoft are just intent on NOT selling software. Cheers, Rob.
July 26, 201510 yr can't believe their Marketing people would produce such a horrible advertisement Rob, I actually clicked through to YouTube on that vid because I thought it was a parody. Microsoft have completely lost the plot in recent years. A few months back, I read an online post from an ex-microsoft tech who explained that since Balmer got involved, the entire company has nosedived in regards to innovation. He spoke of a huge meeting that took place in which a small dev team at Microsoft presented what was basically Google Docs (way before Google pulled it off) everyone loved it. They showed it to the suits and the suits said that users aren't interested in 'the cloud' and ordered the dev team to stop working on the project. Of course, it's one example. But for me, it pretty much sums up how 'in touch' Microsoft are these days. ...That Windows 10 Ad though! Neil Andrews. Fight or Flight - YouTube | Twitter
July 26, 201510 yr I actually clicked through to YouTube on that vid because I thought it was a parody. I first saw it on TV with the wife ... we both thought it was some parody also ... we turned and looked at each other and I said in my best Chris O'Dowd voice impersonation "have you tried turning it Off and On again". Bewilder, just bewilder. Cheers, Rob.
