FightOrFlight: Aerosoft Airbus A320
Hello all! I uploaded a new video a couple of days ago dealing with the Aerosoft Airbus. It's a tutorial flight from Vienna to Heathrow and covers a couple of extras like range rings and holding patterns. Ideal for beginners and experts alike. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Potential Prepar3d V3 Clue in FSUIPC Log 4.942 Release
Thanks for the update Rob. That is indeed great news! It's one thing to use Wordpress as a CMS...but to use it for *everything*?....

New dovetails Flight simulator due in 2016 on both Xbox One and Windows 10
Nitpicking? In all seriousness though, there are of course differences between consoles and PCs, otherwise why would the two even exist? The concept of consoles is more for the casual gamer. You wouldn't expect the average console gamer to sit in front of the XBox and plug in a HOTAS, TrackIR and Rudder Pedals. Sure, you get the odd instance of a game like Steel Battalion for the Playstation where you need a specific controller but that's more the exception to the rule. Never heard of it?...I wonder why If you have a game that's being developed for PC and Consoles, then you have to cater to the control/hardware limitations of the console. If you look at Skyrim for the PC, the original interface was pretty horrible for mouse/keyboard users until the community modded in support. It's easier to force a PC user to use a console based menu system than it is to force a console user to use an interface that was designed around having a mouse and keyboard. It's not all doom and gloom though, it doesn't necessarily mean that just because a game is developed for consoles that it'll be 'dumbed down' on the PC, but you can't really blame people for showing some concern based on previous games. I don't personally think that DFS will replace FSX at all, but I don't think Dovetail are aiming for that either. So, people's expectations shouldn't be too high. I also think that support for FSX:SE will drop off quite a bit when DFS is released, but If it gets more people interested in P3D/X-Plane, then that can only be a good thing.

Something that really bothers me about AVSIM...
Chase, I just mean this "" should be in the first line. I've seen a lot of posts were people substitute it with rolling eyes. (because they can't find the default?) Anyway, like I said, it probably bothers me more than anyone else!

Something that really bothers me about AVSIM...
Sorry for the 'clickbait' title. This probably winds me up more than the majority of the people here. BUT, the default 'smiley face' when making a post is actually a 'rolling eyes' face. I've often wondered why there isn't just a run of the mill smiley in there when making a post. Like I said, it probably doesn't bother most of the AVSIM members but it can definitely have a detrimental effect when seen by others. For example... I love AVSIM  vs. I love AVSIM  thoughts?

New dovetails Flight simulator due in 2016 on both Xbox One and Windows 10
I've stayed out of this because I didn't really think it was something that a lot of us didn't see coming. BUT...a spokesperson for Dovetail has just said this on Twitter "We have confirmed Trains and Fishing will be on XBox. There are no plans to bring [Dovetail Flight Simulator] to XBox in the immediate future." and "we are not working on bringing DFS to XBox at this time." hmmmm. https://twitter.com/alphafoxsierra/status/629333554586091521

VAS comments by Beau
I made the zip before Beau's latest post (http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/vas-usage-related-to-water-detail-settings/#post-112054) I've edited my original post with this info. Thanks for the heads up.

Richie, you little snitch! Alright, I followed the instructions from Beau and converted the files with irfanview and imagetool (from the SDK) Disclaimer: for the love of...Rob. BACKUP YOUR FILES BEFOREHAND in case you need/want to revert EDIT: Read this post first - http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/vas-usage-related-to-water-detail-settings/#post-112054 This zip file was made before this post from Beau. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rxnc6en0v7y2w6o/Tex.zip?dl=0 I also resized the files that Beau said were ok to rename/remove just to be on the safe side. I've been fairly busy tonight so I haven't had time to test. If you do test them out, let us know how it goes.

I'm really embarrassed....a simmer's confession.
Hi Stan, I posted on a similar subject myself very recently. A guy in your situation also wanted to know the basics. Have a look at my post here - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/459680-gtn-750650/page-11#entry3270046 it's the very basic fundamentals. Hope it helps. All the best, Neil.

Auto Land Query
Have you got Fail Passive set in your PMDG aircraft equipment options? Fail Operational will give you the LAND3 annunciation. See posts below this one for much more knowledgeable and thorough explanations...

Upgrade now or wait for 2.6?
Rob, I actually clicked through to YouTube on that vid because I thought it was a parody. Microsoft have completely lost the plot in recent years. A few months back, I read an online post from an ex-microsoft tech who explained that since Balmer got involved, the entire company has nosedived in regards to innovation. He spoke of a huge meeting that took place in which a small dev team at Microsoft presented what was basically Google Docs (way before Google pulled it off) everyone loved it. They showed it to the suits and the suits said that users aren't interested in 'the cloud' and ordered the dev team to stop working on the project. Of course, it's one example. But for me, it pretty much sums up how 'in touch' Microsoft are these days. ...That Windows 10 Ad though!

Raas
Nope. Just get the Reboot (I run the 'old' RAAS with NGX Reboot and it works fine)

Upgrade now or wait for 2.6?
Rich, why do you think it'll be too soon? (It's not a trick question, I'm genuinely interested mate) Don't forget, they're not building a new sim from scratch (but I doubt it's as simple as selecting the 64bit dropdown option in the Visual Studio build menu either!) Obviously, it's all speculation. Us users don't know one way or the other. In my opinion (based on past release dates) we'll see v3.0 in November 2015. At some point after its release, LM will announce an optional 64bit version that'll be developed alongside the 32bit version. There'll be some resistance at first. Very few addons will work and the apparent performance gain will be little to none. All the skeptics will rejoice. Over time, more and more addon developers will release 64bit versions until one day, someone realises that he's just done a long haul in the triple 7 with all his sliders on max and landed at London Heathrow without running out of memory (he'll be getting 10fps, but no OOM error ) Eventually, one of the v3 dot releases will be the final 32bit version of P3D ...and they all lived happily ever after

Upgrade now or wait for 2.6?
Greg, I didn't mean it personally. There's a fairly large thread here on AVSIM discussing the future of P3D and a good number of the participants are basically saying that they don't want to see any kind of advancement for FSX (BS aside, P3D is the (spiritual) successor of FSX) Look at how the home PC market is advancing. Huge leaps in GPU technology, Voice Recognition is getting better all the time. Virtual Reality with the Oculus Rift is about to cause a massive shakeup with how people interact with entertainment. For the flight sim community, the biggest form of disruptive technology is whether we get a 64bit version or not and the fact that the community isn't embracing this with all it's heart is ridiculous. Spent $1000 on airports, airplanes, gps units and scenery? nice! How long do you expect them to be compatible with future versions? 5 years? 50 years? How many versions of Windows have you bought? How many Intel CPUs? A big part of the problem is high profile FSX developers who seem to be willing the 64bit not to happen, as it means they have to spend time and money updating addons (remember, they haven't had to do this for years) this negativity trickles down first to the diehard customers of that developer, then to the community as a whole. Like I said, 64bit will separate the wheat from the chaff and there's an awful lot of chaff floating about.

Upgrade now or wait for 2.6?
So stay with 2.5? I'm really sorry but I don't get this and it's getting extremely tiresome. "Lockheed Martin should not advance their product to take advantage of newer technology because if they do my airports will break!!!!111SHIFT+!" Just stop and think about it for a second. Nobody (not even Lockheed Martin) is forcing you to upgrade to V3 as and when it arrives. This industry, is one of the only industries I know of where developers have been making a small fortune off people for almost 10 years developing for a static platform. A few months ago, Lockheed Martin released a hotfix for Prepar3D and I saw a (high profile, unnamed) developer post along the lines of 'this constant updating is getting a bit annoying as it means we have to update our addons so they work with the new version'. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. After V3 drops, there's going to be an optional 64bit version of Prepar3D. Then we'll separate the wheat from the chaff...

What's going on with P3D
I recently read an article from Flight International (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:7qLB3u5J9DcJ:www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/analysis-simulator-manufacturers-fight-for-advantage-in-crowded-400004/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=at (Google Cache so you don't need to register) I'll just leave that here for the 'experts' in this thread...

A2A Simulations to Announce New Product at Oshkosh
Nice! this is clearly aimed at the middle-aged ex/current/potential PPL pilots who want to get into simming! er, what I meant to say was this is aimed at all those K-12 students with $3,500 dollars to burn. Sorry about that.

What's going on with P3D
Alright, I'll ask again without the part that clearly distracted you. do you really believe, that out of all LM's commercial P3D customers, not a single one of them has said 'oh, it's 32-bit? any chance of a 64-bit version in the future?' to which the LM Rep has replied 'nope'?
-
What's going on with P3D
Come on Ron, 64-bit software is a "pie in the sky" expectation? Gerry, what you say is, of course, completely true. but do you really believe that out of all LM's commercial P3D customers, even the least geekiest of the lot, that not a single one of them has said 'oh, it's 32-bit? any chance of a 64-bit version in the future?' to which the LM Rep has replied 'nope'?

HYD off during push
I think the HYD A system covers flight controls and nose wheel steering (amongst other obviously) having HYD A off for pushback is just an extra safety precaution for any Ground Crew that may get in the way.
