Ground vehicles on TCAS during apporach

Featured Replies

Hello,

I experienced that during approach ground vehicles are shown on TCAS/ND.(PMDG 777)

I know this should not be a PMDG issue alone but maybe there is someone out

who has an idea where to adjust or switch it off.

Investigations in AVSIM forums did not bring me closer to the problem.

Im using WOAI only.

Thank you for help.

Best regards

at all airports? it happens to me but only at fsdreamteam airports, but i'm not sure what TCAS is detecting there, maybe ground vehicles... But not default vehicles, i have that option disabled

It seems that it does not matter what Airport.

During the last flights i have this issue. But in both

cases it was Default scenery.

Did disable ground vehicles in FS menue by Setting to 0% ?

Andreas Hövel

yes, just set it to 0. This will increase your FPS also, and default vehicles are not realy nice anyway

Thanks for now.

TCAS (either real world or simulated) should not ever detect ground vehicles. For a vehicle to show up on the TCAS display it would have to be equipped with a transponder. It definitely could pick up aircraft on the ground though - either AI or other players in a MP session or on Vatsim/IVAO.

I wonder if it is your AI package that is causing the TCAS targets to show up?

I agree with Jim. I think transponders in AI aircraft are being set to "on" even when sitting at the gate and that's causing them to flood your TCAS screen. In any case, I don't think it's a problem with the PMDG product, rather a problem with your AI product.

At many airports, ground vehicles ARE in fact equipped with transponders and show up on radar. You can see this on many Flightradar24 airports.

At least this is my understanding of it.

I think you are correct. Many larger airports have ASDE surface detection radar, and some ground vehicles may indeed have transponders. Probably not "run of the mill" ramp vehicles like baggage cart tugs, catering trucks etc, but vehicles that actually have occasion to drive in the tower-controlled movement areas - like airport operations and security - fire trucks and such.

I don't think this is modeled in FSX/P3D though. Most likely the OP is seeing AI aircraft.

I know that when my FlightBeam scenery initially loads, you can see a bunch of targets, that will eventually disappear. I don't use AI at all.

If you use GSX or possibly AES as will. I'm pretty sure the 'ground vehicles' are aircraft models as far as the sim is concerned. So, as such, they show up on many TCASs. One thing that might help is to set your TCAS to only show potential threats as apposed to all traffic.

Gentlemen,

thank you for your replies. First of all I'm sure its not a PMDG issue.

The Problem I have was, that I never expirienced this when running

FSX on my old machine. Basically the setup was the same in regards

to AI traffic and GSX as well as AES installed.

I can't detect if the vehicles are planes or ground vehicles but definetly

the signals come from ground as the vertical distance Information for all targets

is the same and it is in corelation with the current height of myself.

I just now identify boats in the Harbour causing signals. When on Approach to YSSY

you fly over the Harbour site. Deactivating this it will eliminate most of the signals

on TCAS/ND Display.

I'm going to try some more adjustments with it.

Thank you for attending me.

Best regards
