October 24, 201510 yr The only area I fly with Orbx is the PNW... I like to fly GA aicrafts around here since there are so many small Orbx airport s here Other than that I usually fly airliners (PMDG 777) with megascenery. So do I really need FTX Global? FTX Vector? FTX LC? I don't mind them on my sim setup provided it does not hog too much resources... FPS or VAS So which of the products of Orbx is most taxing on my system? so I can decide if I want it or not? Any ideas? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 24, 201510 yr VECTOR - hope they sort that out on next release but doubt it but really its not created by orbx so not sure you can place blame there This was previous to P3D V3 maybe it will be better on V3 Rich Sennett
October 24, 201510 yr Global simply replaces default textures with better looking once and has no impact on performance. OpenLC takes care of better and less repetitive placement of textures and also adds extra textures to Global so this might have a small impact on performance but I don't really notice any difference. Vector adds roads and waters and with default settings it may kill performance. You can however disable a lot of the features so you only get to see the major waters and roads: it still will hurt performance a bit and VAS too. I stopped using Vector. Take note that these three products have no effect at all within an FTX region like PNW. And you also can't use them together with Megascenery: it's either that or Orbx.

October 24, 201510 yr The best thing about Vector is what it does for coastlines. You can tame it by disabling a lot of the other stuff it does, like tunnel entrances and secondary roads and so forth and so forth. Unchecking a lot of those improves performance. October 24, 201510 yr Moderator ymml is the worse and then ybbn Yeah, those are the two worst airports I have ever purchased in terms of performance, even with all the options turned off. Plus no custom ground polys for the tarmac, taxiways it runways. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Yeah..When I fly around India and Asia, the high resolution coastline helps..cause I don't have photo textures for that part of the world. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 25, 201510 yr Vector, SP4,PNW, i will not run those 3 simultaneously, its not so much a VAS issue for me but it drags my SSD performance way down, then the micro stutters appear, i`m still running P3dv3.0 today with Global, and selected airport stand alone`s from ORBX.
October 25, 201510 yr Definitely Vector. Global is just textures and if anything improves fps and smoothness over default. The landclass products simply change the tile so no real impact there either. Vector, I have to be selective about active features. Like Lee, I turn off several elements and I never have secondary and tertiary roads active at the same time. But if you are only flying in a Region, it includes its own textures, vector graphics and landclass so no, you dont need FTX Global, FTX Vector or any landclass product. It also includes its own mesh, so you don't need any mesh addon either. The advantage comes when you leave the Region as the transition is much smoother and less distinct but if you only ever fly in one area (kind of defeats the object of a global simulator, but them's yer choices, not ours) then you only need the Regional product.

I usually only fly in regions because they are the best but I still have Global installed because every now and the you end up flying near the borders of the region and those default textures really stick out and suck big time... My favorite region is Norway (which hasn't been released for v3 yet... bummer) and the top half of the country is pretty narrow so you see Sweden a lot and believe me: you really do want to have Global installed when you fly there!!! Right now I also have OpenLC installed (while I am waiting for Norway and to keep flying in Europe a bit interesting) and I think I will keep it installed from now on. Vector won't be installed on my PC anymore: it's one of two Orbx addons I regret bying (the other being that awful first plane of theirs...).
October 25, 201510 yr Yes, I'd missed the obviousness as I'd always had FTX Global installed in P3D, but through clean-installing V3 I actually saw the boundary issues for the first time, and yuk ! Installed FTX Global as soon as I could after that ! I dont know how big an advnatage it might be from the point of view of autogen cohesiveness, but certainly from a consistent view observation, Regions AND Global actually work well together. Not really a surprise, as that's what they're designed to do !
October 27, 201510 yr Anacortes is hard on FPS but it is a great area to fly. quick hops from there to orcas island.
