P3Dv3 - VC Cockpit Stutter every 2 Sec..

Featured Replies

Hello,

Ok, so I've made the jump from FSX to P3Dv3 but I have a problem that really has me baffled.

Every time I'm in the VC (Aerosoft Airbus OR PMDG) at an airport I always have this 2-3 sec stutter then butter smooth.... then 2-3 sec stutter...some sort of cycle that I can't get rid of.

It's more pronounced during turns or looking side ways.

I mean honestly, the only reason why I left FSX was because of the mouse-cursor drop prob but making the switch to P3D that issue seemed to be diminished and now somehow i'm having this 2-3sec stutter is driving me insane.

I previously had WIN 7 with same issue and then i read somewhere that upgrading to WIN 10 solved the same issue others were having....didn't work for me.

My CPU temps are fine, GPU not overloaded, FSCUIPC not installed (case anyone wondering - autosave feat) & really don't know where to go from here.

I don't know if to called this Microsuttering or Frame Rate Slow Downs but i believed it's the latter. E.G. of FRSD - http://www.testufo.com/#test=stutter&demo=slowdowns&foreground=FFFFFF&background=000000&max=12&pps=720The thing is, I have the sim capped @ 30FPS NOT 60 FPS with VSYNC ON & TB activated so I don't see why the sim should slow down...then smooth again.

Just so if anyone's wondering, it's not a performance issue, I mantain 30FPS in all situations just the 2-3Sec stutter cycle

Can anyone help out?

I'll share my "stutter" story. About a week ago I started to get both stutters in P3d and a single BSOD when my system first booted up each day. After a lot of testing and receiving help obtained

I had similar issues and most of the regular stuttering was removed by setting the fps unlimited in prepar3d and using the 30 fps limit in Nvidia Inspector.

ok will try and advise.

dash8q400 tried what you suggested but that doesn't help. Thx tho

What resolution?  How much VRAM on the 960?  What kind of AA are you using?

This sounds like texture loading stutters, especially when panning the view.  You might try running eVGA's PrecisionX utility and watch your GPU and VRAM usage...if they're close to capacity that might explain it.

Your system looks more than capable of running w/o that type of stutter. Is it a regular pattern?

Check if any other programs are doing anything. Check that all permissions are granted with your AV.

Does it do the same with a default a/c?

Is P3D installed in the default location or in it's own folder?

Have you trieed running as Admin?

Just as a FWIW - I use ESET AV and it has always been trouble free. A while back I suddenly started getting this same type of stutter. Finally determined that a recent update to ESET had turned ON the "check file on open" feature which had been off by default.

I do NOT think it's your P3D install.

Check your frequency of autosave on FSUIPC. The default is 1 minute intervals, way too often. Also if you use a weather program like ASN, check your frquency of updates.

You might want to experiment with AfinityMask and/or HT On/Off to see if that makes a difference.

Also, try setting water to any value below Ultra (i.e. High or Medium).  Ultra makes use of CUDA libraries.  Also turn off Terrain shadows to see if that helps.

Cheers Rob.

Yup a regular pattern 2-3sec stutter....smooth....2-3sec stutter....

No other programs are running only essentials like ASN & PFPX

No AV, only Malwarebytes and i usually kill this upon starting P3D

Yup, same thing with default A/C

P3D sits on C:\P3D

Always run admin

Hi Rob

Big fan of your P3D videos especially that Delta 77L.....smoothness is unreal man.

Ok, I have affinity mask set at 14 and HT off so will try changing to 84 and HT ON

I tried water settings from as low to ultra, no diff and the same with shadows too

  • Author

I just fiddled with HT and affinity mask...still stutters.

Also, GPU and VRAM usage appear to be fine according PrecisionX.

ASN Freq updates are ok

So don't know what next

One technique I use is to do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE and run the task manager with CPU usage sorted high to low...then watch the task manager for a process that pops up near the top of the task manager list in sync with the stutters.

Processes that can cause this include antivirus software, the Windows file indexing service, Windows Defender, etc.

When you say GPU/VRAM usage are fine, what numbers are you seeing?

As the sim stutter i didn't catch anything in the processes syncing but here's a screenie

https://ctrlv.cz/EUE8

GPU/VRAM usage 1700-1800. Max 2048

How much VRAM is on the 960?

Cheers, Rob.

I also had these micro stutters that drove me crazy and it only happened with the pmdg 737 and 777. I finally got rid of my stutters using dsr, fullscreen and vsync. Now p3d runs butter smooth.

VRAM usage at 1800MB on a 2GB card may not be giving the graphics system enough headroom.  Can't say for sure, but I'd be uncomfortable running that close to capacity.

On my old 4GB 980, there was stuttering with VRAM usage above 3800 (although the GPU utilization was also >95% at the time).

Also, not good to have the WIndows Search indexer running with the flight sim.  That one has caused a lot of headaches for people.

DSR doesn't help and I tried shutting down Windows Search indexer and nothing.

well i previously had a GTX 760 4GB but i sold it and bought this GTX 960 2GB SuperSuperclocked.

I'm really stump with this. Guess I'm going to give up this hobby for a longgg while and there's no way I going back to FSX wid those mouse-cursor drops....sighhh
