Coming back from a heart attack

Featured Replies

(Dear Moderators, I hope you can leave this here for a day or two because this is about the only Forum I visit nowadays. Thanks.)On August 10, at about this time of the evening (9 PM CDT), I began to experience chest pain and shortness of breath. My wife drove me to the hospital and, sure enough, I was having a mild heart attack. Four bypasses and 12 days later I got back home and I'm doing well, thanks to the great doctors, nurses and staff at San Antonio's Methodist Heart Hospital.Today I tried simming for the first time and all is well. My wife reminded me that I was supposed to keep my legs elevated while sitting but I told her that exercise was important too. I cranked in a wicked crosswind and danced on the rudder pedals for an hour or so. It felt good.It is good to be back but I've got lots of catching up to do. Have I missed any "must have" releases? Looking forward to "talking" to all of you again.R-Ron BroylesSan Antonio TX

Ron,I believe this is flightsim related as you're one of "us", so I am glad you're feeling better. I've been through a couple of scary situations myself and have found this forum, community and simming the perfect environment to completely "shut down" and relax.Take it easy, well, I'm sure you've heard all of that in the past couple of days ;-) but be safe and simply don't do any crosswind landings in the near future ;-)It's more than flightsimming, it's a community that sticks together, so stay well!!Cheers,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/2700DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.71.89), CH Yoke/Pedals

Hi RonHaving had an attack myself, I know just how you feel. I wish you a speedy (and relaxing) recovery.Don't know if you 'fly' in Europe but if you do, I really recommend the newly-released Cloud 9 Amsterdam scenery pack. The attention to detail is amazing - Schiphol Airport is packed to the hilt with atmospheric 'goodies' and the city of Amsterdam itself is stunning. (I managed to land a microlite on one of the streets and even the restaurant/bar was full of customers!)Only 'warning' is that with this level of detail, you need a pretty powerful system to enjoy all the benefits. At around $30 (including VAT), I reckon it's pretty good value.Stay well.Toni.

Hi RonWelcome to the BIG ZIP club!I had a 4 back in 2000 at the the age of 52 and really feel good now. Get as much exercise as you can when you can. All the very best to you and your family.Warm regardsBob Wright

Look after yourself Ron, and keep well.

Hi Ron,Welcome from another member of the 'Big Zip' club too.I had a triple in 2000 at the London Middlesex Hospital and feel fine now.It takes a while Ron so don't be in too much of a hurry to exersize. Following the doctors advise in being able to walk for two miles six weeks after being released set me targets that put me back into hospital for 10 days total bed-rest.Play it by ear, when you feel good walk if you don't, relax. Your body is your best guide. The scars you have now wil dissapear with time.Flight sim is the best relaxation I know of and keeps the 'ole' brain active and the feeling that you COULD do it for real is good for your esteem.Several goodies have surfaced lately, most of them are freeware and the 'Bae Panel Project' at http://www.baepanelproject.com/ has got to be the best easy panel I have seen for a while. The latest from http://www.protu-154.com/index_e.html 'Project Tupolev' has also got me intrigued. The sounds of the engines and start-up sequence following the J-Peg files are simply awesome. Pity it's all in Russian but, something to get your teeth into Ron. After a while you get used to 'what does what' in the aircraft and 'enabling Tool Tips' in the program puts things into perspective. The Level-D 767 is I think the best value currently in payware but others might disagree and I don't want to start a flame war within this thread because of my comments so please others, take note? The wonderful thing is, is that now you have time to surf Avsim for the best and tell us about it ;-)Another thing is Ron, you know your ok now so enjoy what you have. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the very bestDave T. .........On the lovely warm Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/

Gee, I wonder if all those Halo and Doom players discuss their heart attacks in their forums, lol. I guess FS tends to attract a more mature crowd!Good news that you're on the mend Ron. In FS, no one can pull your licence. My recommendation would be FSPassengers. A very clever and innovative program, imho, that adds a new dimension to flying.RegardsBlairCYOW

Just thought I'd add my good wishes here too. Hope you're on a short straight flight path to recovery :)
