My Decision ? P3D V 2.4 Why Upgrade To V 3.1

Featured Replies

I have V2.4 which I am very happy with the performance. Need help as to why I would want to upgrade from a version for me has good performance.  I've read about all the new features. But will I be disappointed with the performance?

Thanks to all who reply.

I updated to 3.0 after waiting a couple of months to see if the initial problems went away. I then decided to go with 3.1, about 10 days after it was released,  and the result of moving to 3.1 for me, is occasional CTD's which I never had with 2.5 or V3. I also am reading many posts on the P3D Facebook group with users of 3.1 complaining about CTD's mid flight. There seems to be something unstable in 3.1 , and it seems worse if users are flying PMDG products. People posting about this on the P3D forum, don't seem to be getting any answers from anybody.  If I had it to do all over again, I would have stayed with V3. As far as gains in performance moving from 2.5 to V3 and V3.1, I see very little if any.

I'm on 3.1 and fly with both the PMDG 737 and 777 and I haven't had a single crash. No running out of memory or anything like that. It works perfectly for me. The performance in fantastic too. I have most detail cranked up with loads of add ons and I get around 45 fps in the 737 cockpit at a decent sized airport like UK2000 Gatwick and Taxi2Gate Munich.

Thanks to both of you. This seem to be what I've been reading. Two totally different experiences. Sounds like a 50/50 gamble. Hard decision when V 2.4 is running great for me as I said earlier. Neither of you mentioned any gains to justify a gamble.

Thanks to both of you for your honesty.

I`m fine with my P3D v2.5. Not one CTD yet for long flights using PMDG an couple of addons. But of course with lower Textures resolutions. I`m usign 1024 x1024 and not see any differences for 2048 or even 4096. Smooth as it can be at 30FPS.

Huge VAS gains, performance gains, bugs fixed, new graphics features (dynamic reflections, HDR options, etc.)

Cheers, Rob.

Have one system set up with W10 and the other on W7 - no problems whatever. No CTD's however I do not use tubeliners. Much better visuals and no loss in performance on either system.

Why do I think that 99% of computer users are not going to set up two OS's to run a flight sim?

LOL! I cut back - I had 4 systems - two for FSX and two for P3D. Got rid of the FSX systems.

For me, the deciding factor for going from v2.4 to v3.0 was the transparent ATC window.  If you don't use the default ATC, then this would not be of benefit to you.  For 3.1, it was the additional HDR settings, and it seems to me that graphically, the weather is better looking in v3.1 (although I don't know why - could just be the improved HDR).  All three versions have run well on my system - no OOM errors or CTDs.  When upgrading, I have always uninstalled the previous version and performed a full install with the newer version.

Cheers,

Gerald

My exprience so far is 2.5,brilliant,no stutters or ctd. V3 some stutters.V3.1 a lot of stutters and CTD. I've found that stutters diminish if I increase CPU clock to 4.5 on my i7-4790k and disable HDR settings. All in all disapointed with 3.1

I can't figure out how they add CTD's into V3.1 and call it a bug fix....

One thing that is really good about v3 or v3.1 is the ability to update the client without going through the process of completely deleting and reinstalling everything when there's an update. When I went from v3 to v3.1 I just did a download of the new v3.1 client (about 350meg I think) and installed that. If they're going to make it that easy, then that's a good enough reason alone for me...

Same here.

running 3.1 with FTX Global + OpenLC (disabled Vector because of OOM reasons in locations like London and New York).

Also using PMDG 777, Aerosoft A320 family, ASN, REX HD, Softclouds and so on -> Works all perfect. Performance is very good too.

Same here. No CTDs flying PMDG 777, NGX, Aerosoft Airbus and Majestic Dash 8...
