How Do I Update Prepar3D V3 Using the New Installers

Featured Replies

I see that uninstalling and installing scenery gives you more vegetation. I have two questions, is the increase in vegetation noticeable, and the second question is, do you have to reinstall any add on scenery you have?

Don't know about the increase in vegetation but if you install the scenery update you definitely have to reinstall FTX Global. And i think I read somewhere that you also have to reinstall the FTX Trees HD if you use those.

After all the weekend updating to v3.2 from v3.0 the situation is not very satisfactory .....

First of all I have uninstalled client and content  from previous version and then installed the new .msi for that modules.

Of course, updated objectflow from ORBX; also Addon Manager from FSDT and all other things I have read in the Forums.

After that, I started the simulator and reached the Scenery Startup screen, but as soon as I push OK key the program crashed .

As I thought that something I were not done well, I have come back to v3.0 until it works perfectly, like before this process,  and  then I started again from the beginning taken special care of the steps.

Again the simulator crashed.

I have repeated for three or four times the process but I got nothing.

But among the multiple attempts I have done I found something very unexpected ..... if the aircraft I use for the default flight is included in one of the four I'll say later, the simulator works perfectly.

With any aircraft P3D standard/non standard and with initial airport P3D standard/non standard, as soon as I push OK key in the Scenery Startup screen the simulator crashes ... and that include F22 Raptor, Piper Cub, Maule M7, Mooney Bravo, etc etc as standard and BE58 from Carenado, A320 from Aerosoft and B739 from PMDG as non standard aircrafts.

However, if the aircraft I use for the default flight is one of :

- Real Air Duke Turbine V2

- Real Air Legacy V2

- Carenado C90_GTX

- Alabeo DA42

The simulator works perfectly and I can ... after started .... use any aircraft P3D standard/non standard and with initial airport P3D standard/non standard

Since yesterday night I have flown at least six legs of IVAO Tours, three of them VFR and three IFR and with various aircrafts .......  without any problem !!!!!!

I have investigate which differences may be among these aircrafts and the others but for the moment I have found nothing.

Does anybody understand why this problem occurs ?

Any suggestion about it possible solution ?

Thanks and regards.

Señor Prieto,

The client updater is a stand-alone file, but the content updater has two parts.

When you downloaded the content installer file, there was a second file which (I believe) is called CONT1.CAB. That file needs to be downloaded also, and needs to be present in the same folder as the content installer .msi file when you run the installer. The CAB file contains the actual data that the content installer loads into the sim. If the CAB file was not present when you ran the installer, then the default P3D aircraft would be incomplete, which may be the reason why they crash the sim.

If that is the case, just go back to the Prepar3D web site, download the CONT.CAB file into the same folder as your content installer, and run the installer again. It should fix the problem.

Thanks Jim for your answer ...  I downloaded v3.2 complete and unzip all files together in the same folder and, as you say, cont1.cab is included.

Unfortunately seems that perhaps this is not the problem ... what a pity.

Anyway thank you very much for your help ... if you think in another solution, please let  me know about it, please.

Like Elaine I always do a clean full install of each new version, but before that I rebuild the PC using a system image which already contains all the latest windows updates, and all custom configurations for the OS to maximise performance. Then I install P3D, ORBX packages and aircraft. Any other sceneries get installed as and when required. Using a system image and loading Orbx and aircraft and configuring devices takes me approximately three to four hours which for me is a small price to pay to have a clean install of new versions. But then I'm probably nuts!!!

So what you are saying that is if LM updates P3D every few  months, which they have been doing lately, you rebuild your entire hard drive and reinstall the entire simulator and all add ons. Wow, I think I would rather get a root canal every few months..

Bob

It feels like root canal the first few times but if you use system images and backup directories it's not too bad!!  :excl:  :excl:

Poppet, I already updated my P3D to 3.2 (Client ONLY) everything works and I am happy with it. However I just found out over at FSDT to get GSX menu to work and show up I need to install the CONTENT as well. How can I do this since client and P3D is already at 3.2 and I do not want to do a full reinstall?

Hello Angelo.   Just Uninstall old Content and then Install the new Content Version 3.2.  That's it

Did you Download the Complete V 3.2 Download from the Prepar3D website?  Personally i think its best to Download the Complete Download and do all your Updating from your Computer as opposed to the Website

No I did not download complete just the client as I didn't want to reinstall the whole thing going from 3.1 to 3.2. Can I still follow what you said above?

Thanks!

Just so if anybody is reading this,  You Need to Install Client First,  Client is V3.2,   then decided if you want to Install Scenery Or Content

========================================

This is Only if your Updating Content Straight from the Prepar3D Website

As Jim Barrett stated.  You need to Download Cont1.Cab first,  Then you can Run the Content.msi Installer\Updater

If you Try and run the Content.msi without Downloading Con1.Cab you will get this message

Well, Poppet has 3 pinned topics now. I think its time to just go ahead and hand her a Moderator badge.  :Applause:

Agreed.

I had same problem.  This suggestion fixed it.

So I have to reinstall FTX Global Base, VECTOR and all the other Orbx stuff after following these steps? (Client, Content & Scenery)

There are many reports on P3D Facebook groups and the P3D forum as late as today, regarding people updating to Version 3.2 and having the sim not load or crash immediately on startup. Most of the time this is solved by simply installing the updated add on manager from FSDT. Unfortunately, many people don't know this and wind up uninstalling V 3.2 or doing a complete install of 3.2 which doesn't fix the problem. If you have an FSDT scenery ot programs like GSX, this is most likely the problem.   http://www.fsdreamteam.com/products_addonmanager.html
