BEV IS RELEASED

As for not purchasing products from BEV, because you think that the .net framework corrupts your precious single-user machine: I frankly think your statements are silly. It'll come down with the next service pack anyway and I think you won't complain about that. The .net framework will be part of Vista anyway and has already become an indirect standard and as a Sr. Network Engineer for a Fortune 500 company, I can tell you that we have it running on 200+ production servers. It is like installing FS9 and complaining about the install of DirectX. Get over it.Pat

I would be interested to know the difference of BEV compared to Ultimate Terrain with FS Genesis landclass? Or FScene. It seems kinda redundant to me to have both, no?Thanks,Pat

Please excuse for chiming in here about the already worn out conversations about dot Net. I know some of you will be saying "here's another one, let's get em". But I really would like to say that I understand that it is the principal more than anything that dot Net was installed without our permission. The principal really should be the argument, not whether dot Net harms your system or MS is trying to take control of my machine and other theories that hold no water. The truth is that you will not be able to avoid this install in the future unless you move to another platform. It's just a set of classes used by an application, service or other code module to perform some function. It is harmless but I'm sure some talented hacker out there will find a whole somewhere and attempt to propogate their will for one reason or another. Everyone is going to dot Net and their aint much that can be done about it.Knowing and believing that this is inevitable should allow you to move on.Fire away!!!!Bob

Good for you Bob. Someone else finally got the point. Of course it's not about some vast MS spying conspiracy. It's all about developers installing what is essentially an adjunct to the OS with no consideration for the fact that someone may not, for whatever reason, want that adjunct code installed. Even MS and Sun give us a choice :-) . Will .NET become a part of the next OS? Yes. Does it "harm" the computer? Of course not. But that doesn't give any developer the right to install it with no prior warning or consent. The Flight One download page has now been updated to reflect the fact that .NET is required and that will allow folks to decide what they want to do prior to purchase. A good thing IMHO. But I must admit that I'm a bit amazed at the number of folks who feel that a developer can install whatever they want as long it's deemed to be "safe" code. It seems to me that's just opening a door we might not be able to ever close.Doug

Some valid points Doug, and put in a way even I can understand.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]BEVBetaSig.jpg

Bob, to which post are you responding?-GeorgeM

Still waiting for a reply to my earlier question:some imply that there was a problem installing BEV (With a new NET installation mandatory) if one already had NET on their system. Is there a problem? If so, how is it successfully delt with for such an installation of BEV.Thanks:RTH

I had NET on my computer long before ever running the BEV installer, and have never had any problems installing or uninstalling. Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]BEVBetaSig.jpg

Same here. I had .Net on my system long before BEV, and there was no issue with the BEV install.

Ive had .NET on my computer for AGES and never once had an issue with it.It was a necessity for certain programs used in online gaming to help with the repetitive key punching.

Thanks folks:Glad to hear there is no conflict. That is what I wanted to hear.I figured as much but thought it advisable to check due to some of the replies.Don't misunderstand me. I also have had NET on my system for a very long time and don't really remember when or with what I installed it. Never any problem at all. Some had seemed to imply that there was some conflict in the BEV installation if NET was already present. Glad to hear that there is no problem. If BEV Fall is just about ready for release, I will probably make that my first installation and then just install the rest of the seasons as they make their presence.Happy Flying.RTH

Now that you're feeling a little better about about NET conflicts and so on, I have even better news. The next version of the configuator will not use NET. Whether or not Net causes problems has become irrelevant. There are enough of you uncomfortable with the idea and so it will be gone in the next release. We appreciate you sharing your concerns.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]BEVBetaSig.jpg
