.NET is becoming unavoidable, and according to my son who is a programmer, a great tool for people who wants to develop computer systems any further.Trying to avoid it is like trying to avoid Java, you can't win ;)Trying to avoid BEV is not a good idea either IMHO :)

Why?I believe there are already several programs that require it, and I have had it installed for some time (Don't remember when or with what at present). If it is detrimental to anything, I am afraid I am too ignorant to see what it is.No offense meant.Respectfully:RTH

Need to correct a misconception here - the .NET Framework is not a "program" that you have to install - it's the same sort of thing as Java VM/C++/VB/etc runtime files. (like the msvcrt.dll that everyone has in their Windows/System32 folder) It's the framework that allows programs written in that language to run. It does not slow your system down or otherwise hurt and it's only used when you run an app that uses it like the BEV Configurator. (or EditVoicepack for another example) There is no reason at all to be worried about installing it, it's just files required to use a new programming technology, that's it.

.net like everything microsoft has the great ability to open up your computer to more security holes. So make sure you visit windows update to get the service packs

Absolutly. In fact, you can keep any "pre BEV" texture you want. You can mix and match them in any combination, change them at will. :-)JoeD

Wow. best $12 I've spent in quite awhile. Thanks for the heads-up from a rookie in this hobby!

>I will not buy itWell, good for you. I like it, and that's really all that matters to me. ;)

Just installed. Did a couple of test flights. It definitely looks better than the defaults. The resolution is of course the same since FS is limited to 4.8m/pixel but these textures appear slightly sharper and more detailed. Also liked the autogen which appears much denser and more realistic than FS2004 default. A nice touch is that it also includes streams and other textures not directly related to landclass.Since it's just a texture replacement set, it won't make the whole fs world "photoreal" and it won't be any more accurate than the default textures, so it's not the "miracle" product they seem to be trying to advertise. In fact, you'd better turn off residential roads if you're using something like UT, because the grids of vector roads look totally out of place when superimposed on top of the BEV textures. Turning those off decreases "accuracy" but increases the sense of "realism" so it's definitely a trade-off.As for BEV vs FScene, it's a matter of personal preference. FScene has a more artistic, vibrant "painting" style to it which some may more attractive, while BEV is strictly photoreal. I think I prefer BEV as autogen placement tends to look a little haphazard when using FScene. As expected, some missing textures when using FSGenesis landclass. This is apparent e.g. in the NW region where the FSGenesis landclass calls for some textures that normally belong in the south american region. This is done to simulate clearings and shrubs as the default north american set doesn't include any suitable textures. Since I was already using 2004_wood_desert.zip, this is not that apparent, since both addons are based on photographic images and the artistic style is quite similar. Still, it would be nice to get a complete texture set for FSGenesis users some time. The installer tried to overwrite my isntallation of the .net framework. Fortunately, Microsoft had put protections in place to prevent installers from misbehaving in that way. I wonder if it overwrote some other important system files as well? The configurator is extremely buggy. I was only able to use the it for about 10 seconds before I got some error message. With the 1.01 patch installed I was able to make some changes without it crashing. However, it's still quite useless, the thumbnails are just too tiny to be useful unlesss you have a magnifying glass handy. The only way to find out how a particular texture looks is to install it, then fire up FS.Just my two Eurocents.

It was worth the 12 bucks to me just to get rid of the Leopard spotted textures in the desert. Overall I really like the changes and they are alot more dramatic than I expected. Considering I have a few $30 and $40 dollar planes hangered that I rarely fly because they just were not what I expected, taking a chance with $12 to completly change the look of the sim was a worthwhile risk.

"It was worth the 12 bucks to me just to get rid of the Leopard spotted textures in the desert. "Look for 2004_wood_desert.zip in the avsim file library. It does just that and for free. But I agree, it's worth it for the rest of the improvements. Still, the total cost for all seasons would be $60 (summer, fall, winter, hard winter, spring at $12 each) which isn't that cheap. I'll probably only buy fall and summer though since that's when I prefer to fly.

I bought BEV yesterday, and to say I am impressed is an understatement. Its beautiful. Koorby's autogen buildings look fantastic, the placement of objects such as buildings along streets is much more realistic. Same with trees along rural roads. There are even various farming plots with small trees that look like orchards. Being one of those hobbyists that has spent thousands of dollars on payware addons for my hobby, I can definitely say this is one of the best visual addons for the sim. I get no hit on framerates even though it looks 10x better than any other texturizing for the ground, and personally I look forward to each season release. I love the configurator, and have had .NET on my computer for ages (for some programs that use it from when I was an online gamer several years ago) and never had a problem with it. It doesnt slow my system down at all. Security woes opening up? #### surfing the web is a security issue. Dont like MS, dont use the XP OS. Dont fly FS9 since it is a Mircrosoft product, but with the paranoia some of you face regarding the company, dont be surprised if some MS official dressed in a black suit comes knocking on your door to arrest you and throw you in Gates' dungeon for those who dont fly properly in the sim giving MS a bad name.MS Paranoia still runs deep in some people, like big bad Micrsoft is out to get you personally. BEV looks brilliant. Some are blindly boohooing because it was released a week late. Rivers are made for crying into. There have been several payware addons that were years late. A week? Oh no, life will end.Did it have a few bugs on release? A few, but nothing that was terrible, and thanks to customers and the beta testers, many were resolved within hours of release. Good customer service in my opinion. Even better that they held off release until they worked a number of them out as the ones I have seen had no impact on its use other than a couple textures that couldnt be used.
